A part of me feels like Gary was the same kid as Phoebe when he was younger, the type of kid to spend all his time learning about earthquakes. And then the Ghostbusters happened and he got SO into that.
I feel like he was the awkward nerdy kid when he was younger and he sees himself in Phoebe and the way she is.
That's probably just me, I could be entirely wrong idk lol

fandom etiquette reminders
gentle reminder that people do not have to like/ship the popular ships in a fandom. widely popularized ships do not equal canon ships and even if they were, people are allowed to have different pairings they prefer. if one fandom creator popularized things, it does not mean that every single other creator has to also do that thing.
please be respectful and considerate of the people making free content for your enjoyment as well - you never know whats going on on the other end of the screen to cause an author to not upload a new chapter or why the artist hasn't posted new art in three weeks. their boundaries are just as important as anyone else's and deserve to be respected as a basic human right.
if you're a minor, do not participate in 18+ spaces! this is for your safety as well as the safety of everyone else. if anyone over the age of 18 insists its okay for you to participate in nsfw topics with them, run. be careful with what you're posting online, too. you never know who has ill intent when interacting with you.
be also incredibly mindful that not everyone wants to participate in fandom discourse. proship/antiship discourse, ship wars, "what are your thoughts on [insert problem here]", - these are good and fun in their own respects, but can be incredibly distressing if brought up out of nowhere.
fandom is supposed to be for fun, and it isn't fun if its stressful and dangerous.

Spoiler-free review of Ghostbusters: Back in Town issue #2
I'll admit, I have less to say on this one since it feels like more setup of things that will come into play for the next issue. I can't talk about a lot without giving too much away. I will say though:
More interesting ghostly creature designs, and they all appear to be connected somehow to the new main villain of this mini series.
Mentions of Ghostbusters 2, for any fans of that particular film. I won't get anyone's hopes up if they're expecting Vigo though, he's only mentioned.
Some more character exploration and development for Phoebe that leads up to Frozen Empire. We see more of what school is like for her and how she has a hard time dealing with other students. That lack of connection is going to cause problems for her, although this is only the beginning.
More Ray! I don't think that's a spoiler since we did see him at the end of issue #1. He's his usual entertaining self with plenty of lore to share. There's a bit more Podcast too although he's only heard and not seen.
More Callie and Gary and some funny moments with the two of them.
Slight hints and acknowledgment of a certain pairing I used to ship really hard back in the day, but have neutral feelings on now? I'm not sure how to feel about it, but I'll reserve judgement until the comics have completed the story. In any case it's nice to see the dynamic shown a bit more. (If you know, you know!)
Overall, not bad! Enough funny & exciting moments to keep me engaged, more hints at what's to come, and more character exploration.

After all this time, and giving it some thought. I'm keeping this headcanon. According to the director & the actors of Frozen Empire, Phoebe and Melody's relationship is open to interpretation and doesn't have specific labels. McKenna herself said she doesn't see Phoebe as a romantic person, so my headcanon is at least partially supported.
As I said before, all interpretations are great and valid. I know plenty of other people enjoy seeing Phoebe as lesbian, bi, enby, etc. This is just how I personally choose to view her. She's my one of my favorite characters and imagining her having the same orientation as me brings me great comfort. 💚💜
Phoebe is aro ace. She’s one of us, I know it.
(All headcanons are great of course! I’m just very attached to this idea.)
