A Conversation Long Overdue by @fleetofshippyships
Ron/Draco (Mature, 6.5k)
After Ron forgets to take his presents with him to the Burrow on Christmas Day, Draco braves a snowstorm to deliver them. Then the storm worsens, and with the Floo Network down, Draco finds himself stranded there. To make matters worse, Ron is acting odd, more so than usual, at least. It’s the worst time to bring up and prod at their recently changing friendship, but Draco’s not sure he wants to miss the chance to finally get some clarity about what exactly they are to each other now.
I considered reccing some kinky PWP for this ship but damn, I just can’t resist some gourmet friends to lovers. Besides, I’m a slut for Molly Weasley’s kindness being directed at Draco, can you really judge me? Be still my heart, this delightful story filled me with warmth. This is the gentlest take on this pairing I’ve ever seen, fun, soft and cathartic. The pining! The fond teasing! The miscommunication! I love the dialogue and the fact that Ron doesn’t let Draco wallow in guilt and self-deprecation. I especially love their dancing around each other and the sweet plot twist. A lovely, lovely read!

Fic Archive Only
I’ve changed this blog to an archive of old fic/drabble posts and reblogs of things I’m tagged in etc.
I’m (mostly in)active on @fleetofshippyships for just reblogs and other fandom stuff for my own enjoyment.
I might post new fic link posts here for archive purposes on the now-rare occasions I post fics.

A Dream Made Real
(Part 6 of Merman Lan Wangji AU series)
Three months pass since Lan Zhan saves Wei Wuxian from the water ghouls, but Wei Wuxian only sees Lan Zhan again in his dreams…
It was a gift, getting to see Lan Zhan at all. It was an honour to have met him and spoken with him, to receive his silk and tears. Jiaoren were rare and encounters with them were relegated to the realm of stories no one believed.
He should be content with what he had been given, not endlessly aching for more.
And to what end?
To touch Lan Zhan’s hair and feel his lips again? Even if Lan Zhan desired that too, he was bound to the waters and Wei Wuxian to the land. His dreams were exactly that. Dreams. Fantasies. Impossible.

Chapter 4/5 - Read on AO3
Chapter 4 Excerpt:
There was no way to know who was above him. With his core still depleted, he could not sense the spiritual energy of the human there.
Even if it was Wei Ying, he was tempted to remain concealed.
Regardless of how he felt, Wei Ying was still like a stranger to him. In fact, he now knew Lan Xichen more than Wei Ying, but he had still fled to Lotus Pier to recover, rather than stay with Lan Xichen and all the help he had offered.
But it was pointless to delay, his choice would remain the same no matter how long he thought through his options.
Barely a moment after he breached the surface, Wei Ying spotted him, his face splitting into a warm smile. He was carrying a tray, which he set down near the edge of the pier before sitting next to it. He had his flute tucked into the waistband of his robes, and the sight of it filled Lan Wangji with the desire to rest his head on Wei Ying’s lap again. He had replayed Wei Ying’s songs many times in his head while they had been apart, but time had distorted his memory of them and he ached to hear them anew.
It seemed like the perfect combination, resting his head on Wei Ying’s lap while Wei Ying played for him.

Lan Wangji winced through a sharp pain across his scalp. The hand Wei Ying tried to fend him off with was the one still tangled in his hair. He shifted onto his back, his head still resting on Wei Ying’s lap, and caught that still-swatting hand between his own. Wei Ying’s skin was cool to the touch there too, as he carefully untangled Wei Ying’s fingers from his hair.
Once freed, he could not help but pull those fingers down to his face. At first he only touched them to his brow and then his cheeks, to warm them, but then, following a deep longing he could not suppress, he brought the tips of those cool fingers to his lips.
Wei Ying made a soft, humming sound as Lan Wangji kissed his fingertips and then the palm of his hand. It was unforgivable to do so, and Lan Wangji could already feel the guilt begin to flow through him, but neither could he stop. He had missed Wei Ying more than he could even comprehend. He had failed to keep it from his mind, but it seemed he had managed to dampen it, for it was now impossible for him to distance himself. He only wanted to be closer.
A Dream Made Real, Chapter 3
…watch me continue my drawing spree for @fleetofshippyships ‘s Merman Lan Wangji AU. Someone recently called it an “illustrated fic”, and…yeah, at this rate they’re not exactly wrong, whoops. 😅 But I just love drawing for this verse so much! I hope you aren’t tired of me doing so yet. ❤️
Okay, so…I finished this thing back in April (April!), when this chapter was just about a baby WIP.
I think I was on Discord, and Zoe and I were chatting, and she was like “Hey, I wrote on a bit - wanna read?” and I squealed. Like, just the sheer honour of being allowed to read ahead? Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Anyways, I’m usually striving for as accurate as I can get when it comes to depicting fic scenes - I might take a bit of creative licence whenever there’s not much description - but here? The pose is, like, completely off. To a 100%.
And I’m cool with it, for once, because I had this scene in my head and didn’t read back to look at the details - I just thought of the hand kiss and the sheer tenderness of it, and that was what I wanted to capture. I hope I achieved that in some capacity.
(Also: is it just me, or does he look, like, obscenely naked without his forehead ribbon, all while being fully clothed?)
There’s far more in that chapter to discover, and far more in that chapter that I want to capture - off off, go read it!
(Also let’s play a game and, when you read it, come back to me and tell me what scene in particular you think I’m itching to draw.)

Chapter 3/5 - Read on AO3
Chapter 3 excerpt:
With the memory of Wei Ying’s fingers sliding through his hair, and the soft humming that had lulled him to sleep, Lan Wangji found it distressingly easy to push aside thoughts of impropriety and reach up to touch him.
Wei Ying’s skin was soft beneath his fingers. Smooth and cool like the touch of his silk freshly pulled from the water, retaining no water but carrying the chill of it nonetheless. The air was too cold for a human to be staying so still.
“Wei Ying,” he said softly, brushing his thumb under Wei Ying’s eye. “Wake up.”
The low, grumbling sound Wei Ying made in response brought a smile to Lan Wangji’s lips. It was unexpectedly endearing. He could not help but let his thumb wander down to brush against the pout of his lips. That too was endearing, as was the petulant frown that twisted Wei Ying’s features when Lan Wangji gently shook one of his shoulders.
“Jus’ a bit longer,” Wei Ying muttered, sleepily swatting at Lan Wangji’s hand.
Lan Wangji winced through a sharp pain across his scalp. The hand Wei Ying tried to fend him off with was the one still tangled in his hair. He shifted onto his back, his head still resting on Wei Ying’s lap, and caught that still-swatting hand between his own. Wangxian Merfolk AU progress update:
I updated on twitter so I should here too 😅
Basically got knocked on my ass with a fibro flare a week ago and wasn’t able to edit and beta chapter 3 on time so it’s delayed (also why I’ve not been on here). I have managed to chip away at editing it the last couple of days though, even though I’m not really any better. My beta also got really sick recently so there will be delays on the beta read too.
(please, no offers of beta help, it would actually not be helpful at all to need to adjust to a new beta rn 😅)
So yah, I’m missing my own posting schedule but 🤷‍♀️ there’s really nothing that can be done, just gotta ride out the flare until it decides it’s ready to be over.
but oh boy, on the more amusing side of a flare, I tried to eat a stir-fry with a teaspoon tonight, took me stabbing at the plate with it a few times before I figured it what was wrong and had to go back for a fork 😂 and then I went looking for paper towels in the fridge 🤦‍♀️
at least I haven’t put soap on my toothbrush this time...yet 😬

A Dream Made Real - Chapter 2
Part 6 of my Merman Lan Wangji AU series

@sweetlittlevampire has once again created some beautiful art for the scene in this chapter, which you can see here on tumblr or on twitter. She’s had that finished since the start of March(!!), just patiently waiting for me to finish the fic and get it online so she could post it XD be sure to go give her some love, the art is stunning as always!!
Read on AO3, excerpt below:
With the weather turning, the lotus dying back, and the cool air nipping at one’s heels in the night, it was hardly the time for Wei Wuxian to be out on the water at all. In fact, he’d not gone to that lake in weeks.
That he should venture out this night and see Lan Zhan again...it could only be luck he’d surely done nothing to deserve.
But still, taking in Lan Zhan’s form resting on the pier, a light, warm feeling blossomed and grew behind his ribs, until he felt just as starved for air as when he’d first woken from his dream.
“Lan Zhan!” he called out, angling the boat over towards him.
On the pier, Lan Zhan turned his head to the side to watch Wei Wuxian approach, but otherwise barely moved.
“Wei Ying,” he said in acknowledgement, so quietly that Wei Wuxian barely heard him over the sound of the boat moving through the water, and the distance between them.
As he moved closer, his elation faded away. Lan Zhan wasn’t reclining back like when he’d first seen him, nor was he resting gracefully. He was sprawled carelessly on his back, arms limp by his sides.
It had been months since Wei Wuxian had seen him, but he seemed smaller somehow, thinner perhaps. He wore his robe tightly closed and fastened, but that didn’t seem to be why. His presence just seemed less. In fact, Wei Wuxian could barely feel his presence at all as he tried to focus on it.
“It’s been so long,” he pointed out needlessly, climbing onto the pier as soon as the boat bumped up against it. Careful to avoid Lan Zhan’s hair and robe, he sat near the edge and folded his legs under himself. “I wasn’t sure I’d see you again.”
Lan Zhan finally moved, pushing himself up until he was leaning on propped up arms, resting on his side. It was like his pose when Wei Wuxian had first seen him, but it was not the same at all. A flash of red at his left wrist called for Wei Wuxian’s attention, but he was immediately distracted. Lan Zhan looked at him and his face was illuminated brightly by the moonlight.
He looked tired. No, exhausted. There were black shadows under his eyes, marring his perfect jade skin. And now that he was so close, it was clear Lan Zhan had lost weight, his face slimmer and paler than before.
A ghost of a smile tilted Lan Zhan’s lips as he looked at Wei Wuxian, but it seemed forced and tired, just like his posture.
“Lan Zhan...” Wei Wuxian reached out to touch him, then pulled his hand back before making contact. “Are you alright?”

Alright, so as you can see (and probably tell if you’ve been following me for a while), this is part of @fleetofshippyships ‘s Merman Lan Wangji AU …
Only that this part technically hasn’t happened yet (status: May 27th, 2020, 13:12 CET).
If you’ve read Chapter One of A Dream Made Real, then you maybe might have guessed in what direction the story was going…the big question now is:
What on Earth happened to Lan Zhan? Is he just resting? Is he in pain? Is he injured? Ill?? Dying?!? Will he be mad at Wei Wuxian for having taken his forehead ribbon off? Will this put a strain onto their budding relationship?
…you gotta wait until Chaprter 2 is up to find out, hehehe. XD Which should be posted VERY soonish, so look out for that.
I will be reblogging this post with a link to the newest chapter once it’s up so you can all go and find out what the deal is. Keep your eyes peeled for that!
Obviously this means that @fleetofshippyships was kind enough to let me read ahead and to le me find out what’s going to happen before anyone else did, and for this inside scoop and the trust linked to it (because I could have spoilered the heck out of you all), I cannot thank her enough. ♥♥♥
(Also just saying that Wei Wuxian’s pose might look weird to you because that was me trying to draw someone from that angle for the first time…so yeah. I did as best as I could; I’ll surely get better with practice.)

Wei Ying slowly opened his eyes. They widened at the sight of several small floating orbs of water passing by his face before merging back into the water on the other side of Lan Wangji. He blinked at Lan Wangji for several moments then sat upright.
“You can control water?” he exclaimed, the force of his movement almost breaking Lan Wangji’s concentration keeping them steady on the water. He wobbled astride Lan Wangji’s tail and had to grab at his sides to steady himself.
“Mn,” Lan Wangji said, drinking in the pure joy and awe in Wei Ying’s expression.
He was always so easily delighted by the things Lan Wangji could do with his jiaoren spiritual energy.
“Lan Zhan, that’s…”
Lan Wangji reached for the energies flowing through the water again, closing his eyes to concentrate better. He had managed much more than little balls of water when he had been practising alone, but Wei Ying was such a distraction he wasn’t sure he could manage more if he could see Wei Ying looking at him with such wonder.
- A Charming Distraction
This has been a collab looong in the making. @fleetofshippyships and I decided that she would write a drabble, and I would draw for it as a joint kind of thing, and it was such a fun thing to do!  It’s all based on a joke about someone mentioning a whale in her main merfolk series…so there might be more random whales making random appearances in the future.
This whole story verse she’s conjuring up with her Merman Lan Wangji AU has my whole heart, and I will never tire drawing for it, no matter if it is as a collaboration, or if it’s just me reading her fics and screaming “I WANNA DRAW THIS” after every single damn scene. XD
Thank you so much for wanting to collab with me on this, love! :D

A Charming Distraction
Fandom: MDZS Pairing: Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji Rating: Teen Word Count: 939 Summary: Wei Wuxian is falling asleep as they float down the river, and asks Lan Wangji to entertain him to keep him awake.
Tags: Alternate Universe - Merfolk, Merman Lan Wangji, Canon Universe, Established Relationship, Fluff
Note: This is technically not a part of my ongoing Merman LWJ series, however it uses the same setting =) (but might get incorporated I dunno, leave your opinion on whether I should in a comment on AO3 XD)
This was in collaboration with @sweetlittlevampire and you can see her art of this drabble here on tumblr, or on twitter. There’s two pieces and they’re absolutely stunning!! Be sure to check them out and give her lots of love! And as always, Rima, I’m in awe of your art and forever touched you continue to draw artwork for this AU!
Read the full fic on AO3, Excerpt below:
Lan Wangji had almost fallen asleep when Wei Ying shifted and nearly slipped into the water. They were floating along the river, late enough at night they need not worry about being seen. Wei Ying had long since realised Lan Wangji used his spiritual energy to float when he wanted to, and had immediately tested his limits by clambering right onto him the next time he’d caught him on his back on the surface of the water.
While they had both sunk immediately that time, subsequent experiments had allowed Lan Wangji to float them both, and now it was one of his favourite ways to pass time with Wei Ying, floating on his back with the current while Wei Ying sprawled on top of him, legs dangling either side of his tail, head resting on Lan Wangji’s chest and protected from the water. They could spend hours that way, Wei Ying talking about everything and nothing, and Lan Wangji drinking in every word.
Wei Ying slipped further to the side, and Lan Wangji carefully gripped him by the sides and pulled him back on top of him properly before he fell into the water. Wei Ying merely grumbled and rubbed his face into Lan Wanji’s chest a little.
“If you’re tired, maybe we should head back,” Lan Wangji said, threading one hand through Wei Ying’s hair.
He couldn’t quite remember when Wei Ying had taken out his hair ribbon, but he had been running his hands through Wei Ying’s hair for quite some time while they drifted down the river. He hoped it was as soothing and pleasant for Wei Ying as it felt when Wei Ying played with his hair.
“No, I just need...” Wei Ying yawned and propped his head up on his hands. “Keep me entertained, Lan Zhan.”
“How?” Lan Wangji asked, working his hand out of Wei Ying’s hair to brush his thumb across Wei Ying’s cheek instead.
Wei Ying hummed softly and turned to kiss his palm. “I know you’ve been experimenting with your spiritual energy again. You’re always so tired after and you were exhausted the other day. Surprise me with what you’re learning.”
All while speaking, Wei Ying pressed kisses to Lan Wangji’s palm between words. Through the heat rising to Lan Wangji’s cheeks, it took him a moment to even remember what he’d done in his last experiment. Wei Ying always distracted him so thoroughly.
But it eventually came to him, around the moment Wei Ying started kissing his fingertips, and he let his other hand sink into the water beside him.
It was hard to concentrate with Wei Ying’s soft lips constantly pressing kisses to his hand, but he managed to feel for a thread of energy in the water and tug gently.
“Wei Ying,” he said softly to get Wei Ying’s attention.
