the thing about the term femboy is that it’s a simple portmanteau of “feminine” and “boy” that has been used to denote an aesthetic and gender nonconformity in men. it may sometimes be used negatively but the vast, vaast majority use it as a positive self identifier.

“but it’s a slur used against trans women” It’s a derogatory term when used on trans women when they don’t personally identify with it (because some trans women also identify as femboys, gender is complicated), because it is purposefully misgendering them. that doesn’t make it a slur, just like tomboy isn’t a slur, but calling a transmasc person that is still derogatory. femboy is different from other terms like T*rp because there is no inherit negative connotation, being a feminine boy isn’t bad, it’s only hurtful because it’s being used to misgender someone.

“but it’s aimed at people who are read at amab people, so tme people can’t use it” well I have some bad news about stuff since by saying this you are effectively misgendering literally everyone in this conversation. and many trans men and trans mascs who are gender non conforming are sometime read as trans femme so…”tme” really isn’t that useful a term in this case. Gate keeping the simple language of what is a term that literally means feminine boy from trans men doesn’t make sense and never has.

“but it’s used as a porn term” ….and? petite, brunette, mature, and twink are all used as porn terms, that doesn’t suddenly make them icky yucky terms people should never use. something sometimes having a sexual connotation doesn’t taint it, doesn’t make it suddenly inherently sexual. yes femboy is a term that is used in fetish communities, it also is used in completely sfw contexts too by people who just like the aesthetic. 

and as a very sexual person I like the fact that it’s not a squeaky clean term, cause I’m not a squeaky clean person and I don’t want to be. I like my terms complex with complicate histories that aren’t perfect and sterile and made to be palatable, because I don’t want to be perfect or palatable. I like being a queer genderfuck femboy, it makes me feel seen and empowered. 

TL;DR: Femboy is a good word and you can pry it from my cold dead hands.
