I think it was his problem. Seeing only glimpses of things, and beeing arogant enough to interpret it as he wanted them to be.
Albus is allowed to visit Him for the first time since 1945,not long before his death. The Austrian ministry always refused. Some people remember how he was against the death penalty, how he insisted on solitary confinement in Nurmengard. They don't fully trust him, no matter how many applications he sends, they always refused until now. Because now they are afraid of what is happening on the islands. They see a savior in him one more time.So Albus can have tea with the prisoner. They sit in silence, looking at the snowy peaks of the Alps from the terrace overgrown with wild roses. Of Kendra Dumbledore's favorite species. Albus can't see much through his tears, only clutching a cup of tea in one hand, the other pitch-dark, resting on Gellert's lap who covers it with his hand.His hands are also shaking. The finality of what is to come terrifies them both.,,You know...I saw it,,,Gelert speaks softly wuth small voice,,Then. Long time ago.Us,together,as old people... on this terrace,holding hands.And I was so sure that I'm walking the right path. That this is where we'll grow old, that you'll come back to me. That we'll spend a lifetime when I win the war. That's why I pushed forward. The universe has a twisted sence of humor,,

There is whole wing in Numerngard,which has purple curtains,cosy carpets,fluffy pillows,boxes with lemon drops and dosens of books. No one uses it.Gellert Grindelwald showes up there sometimes.He does the cleaning, he makes amends.The wing is waiting quietly for his owner.In garden grows only one kind of roses-Kendra's Dumbledore favourites.There is fountain in the library. Strange idea,one may think. But no one knows that it was a dream of 18yo Albus Dumbledore.Smell of books and quiet sound of floathing water.
In 1945 when Albus Dumbledore came to Austria, to put all spels holding prisoner of Numerngard in his place,he recognises all of it.The castle was made for him.Every stone was made for him.

Aberforth.
My thoughts about him. We know that he blames Albus for everything and Albus blames himself, and main black character in his story is Gellert. I never read that he balames himself for anything.But lets see.
He impregnated girl at age 15. He was covard enough to not to tell it to Albus, who was his legal guardian (i bet he knew, i bet she told him)or do anything with this problem as far as I know. His son suffered years in orphanage due nasty bitch and selfhatred. It was not because of Albus, blame is only on him.
If he had a time to make a baby and start romance with some girl, i bet he didnt have so much time for Ariana as he claims he had.
He wanted to keep his ill sister imprisoned at home. He though he takes care of her, but she was terminaly ill, she would die soon,she could at least see a bit of a world with Albus and Gellert.
He started a fight at his own house, where his ill sister lived. His sister who was so affraid of using magic. He attaced someone who was his brother love/best friend not because this person was evil,but because he was mad that he want to take his brother away.
He separated Albus and Gellert, and made Gellert run away. Maybe if they stayed together he wouldnt be so evil and twisted. I think that good site of Albus and his endless love would have stronger influence on him, than his evil site on Albus. Many lifes could have been saved.
And he still have a nerve to blame his brother for everything. Ridiculous.

We all know that Gellert is nazi-supremist, right? Right. He is convinced that Wizards are different kind, different species, which is superb, and better than nonmagic people. But he is so wrong, and its so stupid considering how genious he supposed to be. Magic and nonmagic pople have same DNA, which allowes them to have children. Fertile children. The ability to witchcraft after a few generations without the magic factor disappears. So it is not a dominant trait. Which gave me the idea that humans never ment to have the ability to form matter, called magic. Its seems that Wizards are not more than 5 % (more? Less?)of the population.Maybe this ability was effect of some mutation or accidental breeding, because there is no nonmagical magical creatures.Like no nomagical houseelfes,goblins,unucorns,testrals, or dragons.100 percents of them are magical.Only in human population this diversity exists.There is also no ,,wizarding nation,,.they have their own society and structures,but they still are submited to muggle national structures and law. They still identify themselfes as english, german, american.So Gellert is such a hypocrite. He sleeps under comforter and pilow probably made by muggles,he uses muggle technology only slightly upgraded by magic (camera etc.),he uses muggle made furnitures,buildings,facilities and he still thinks that he is better than them. Or maybe I digg to dep.What do You think?
