⚕️My Chicken/Animal First Aid Kit⚕️
•Neosporin- a lifesaver for preventing infection.
•Peroxide/Rubbing Alcohol- cleaning wounds is imperative when treating animals to prevent further damage by infection. I recommend peroxide because it bubbles when in contact with a dirty area and does not sting.
• All-Natural Poultry wound spray- contains natural intiseptics and doesn’t sting.
• BlueKote- This product is amazing for helping with many poultry problems such as cannibalism/feather picking and for wounds. It does stain feathers though.
•Corn Starch- Helps to stop bleeding. Great for clipping nails if you hit the quick.
• Gauze, Wraps, and Medical Tape- Gauze for keeping injuries clean. Wraps and Medical Tape are great for keeping your birds from tearing off the gauze.
•Tweezers and Clippers- to remove foreign bodies like splinters and clippers for removing bandages as well as trimming feathers without plucking so that it is easier to treat a wound.
• A mini “Bird ICU”- consists of a clean cage somewhere quiet and warm here the bird can heal from it’s injuries.
•Powder Electrolytes- can save your birds (especially young and old birds) who are too hot or injured.
• Activated Charcoal Tablets- If administered quickly, they can save your animal from serious poisoning( Example: when my rabbits somehow ate Lily of the valley. Yikes…)
• Your nearest exotic or avian vet’s number- Chickens for some reason don’t seem to get hurt during normal vet clinic business hours, so always have a vet’s number when an injury or disease is too serious for you to treat. Be sure your vet is knowledge and experienced with your species of bird before putting your animals life in their hands. In a worst case scenario, you will also have a way to humanely euthenize your animal.
• Last but certainly not least is lots of TLC- Your pet will need lots of love and care from you to heal. ❤️Hopefully this information will be useful to you and even help save your pets life!❤️
