it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

biggest loss of comedic potential was not having the kids wear stolen tacky waterland merch for the next three episodes

just thinking about how percy's plans look like he's actively trying to get himself killed because he doesn't take the time to explain his plans to anyone else because they are time-sensitive. and how annabeth never needs him to explain anything because she can recognize battle strategy from a mile away. and how she knows that percy only diverges from a collective plan when he sees a flaw in it and is about to do something that'll confuse the opponent long enough for them to gain the upper hand. and how annabeth will only take over when she sees a flaw in his plan and guide them back on track. and how percy gives her the space to play on her strengths instead of fighting her over it because he trusts her judgment. and how all of this basically happens wordlessly because they understand each other.

Again they dangled Annabeth’s fatal flaw in front of her through Hephaestus saying that if she were to leave right then with the shield, she would win back her mother’s favor and be a hero, two things Annabeth has wanted more than anything in the world her whole life. And again she chooses to stick by her friend and protect him because if they don’t break the cycle, who will? If they continually sacrifice each other to get ahead, just as the gods have done with each other and demigods for centuries, what will be left but the destruction of the world?
But Percy isn’t that way. Annabeth has the chance to have everything she’s ever wanted but not the way she wants. She doesn’t want to be that way anymore. She’s breaking the cycle.

I know people are seeing the post credit scene and lamenting that Cassian and Melshi were forced to build the very weapon that will kill them (which is true and I am definitely also 'people') but... it also confirmation that the prison escape directly impacted the development of the Death Star.
Like, we know that turning off the facility meant that Narkina 5 couldn't be fully operational for months, and the loss of 5000 prisoners who were all assembling large numbers of pieces a day... all of that had to hurt the production schedule, not to mention any further damage from Melshi or Cassian's testimonies reaching people inside and out of the prison system.
How long did it delay production? We don't know - it could have been weeks or months, or even just hours. But knowing how little time the Rebellion has once they learn of the Death Star's existence, and how the Empire was closing in, even before then - Jyn and team escape Jedha with the message and means to destroy the superweapon by literal seconds - I just feel like it counted.
The Death Star will one day kill both Cassian and Melshi, but they, and 5000 other men, also bought precious time for the Rebellion. Just enough time to get the plans off Scarif. Just enough time for some desert farmer boy to make the crucial shot.

andor is a show that is simultaneously saying “let’s take the worldbuilding of star wars seriously and apply critical theory” and “let’s take the visual and tonal language of star wars and make a good television show out of it” and motherfucker they are doing both incredibly

Something about Brasso being the kindness in this series. Warm, trustworthy, friendly, compassionate. He’s who Cassian goes to when he needs a cover, and he’s on the same page without question. He’s who takes care of Maarva the best he can while she’s still alive. He tells Bix to run the moment the Imperials are after her, no question or hesitation as he steps between her and the Imps. He’s patient with Bee when Maarva passes, encourages the old droid to help the Daughters, stays in the house with Bee when he’s asked. The first thing he does when he sees Cassian again is hug him, long and hard. He delivers Maarva’s final words, how Cassian is loved more than any wrong he could ever do. He walks Maarva’s brick down Rix road, he’s the first to start swinging at the Imps, and he drops the fight to rescue the poor kid (who’s name I can’t remember).
Something about him being the kindness in the series in the face of adversity. Loyal and compassionate. Something about how his role is crucial in this rebellion. And something about how, most importantly, he survives.

the mandalorian: watch this bounty hunter accidentally become a father!
book of boba fett: what?
obi-wan kenobi: witness Obi-Wan overcome the demons of his past as he rescues a spunky young Leia!
andor: look at me. this is what a totalitarian surveillance state looks like. “if you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear” is a lie told by those who want to keep you subjugated. the people who hold the most power over you do not care about you, only how they can advance their own position, and they will decimate everything you have and are in the process. the only way to save yourself is revolution. are you still paying attention?

I love how Andor avoided all the prison tropes. There was no ‘bully table’ or snitch that had it out for Cassian and the ‘loser table’. No tough prisoner our protagonist needs to beat to prove his worth. No gangs that rule the prison our prisoner either has to join or destroy. There was no one opposed to the prison break or any internal fighting amongst prisoners.
If anything I think the Empire tried to enforce this with the ranking and reward system of the tables. That way, the prisoners would be so obsessed with beating other, they would think to join together against the real enemy.
But they didn’t, they worked together and they built each other up and they focussed on one collective goal. Keno’s speech was about helping each other and lifting each other up in their time of need. Even the prisoners on other floors who didn’t know Cassian or Keno knew and understood the message.
It’s a surprisingly hopeful and uplifting way to film these prison scenes and I think it’s a testament to the powerful world and character building in Andor and it’s way of telling a truly astounding story in a way that’s different from other media.

The fact that Ferrix's funeral theme is the same reoccuring theme we've been hearing throughout the entire show... Cassian's life is steeped with death. His entire life is a funeral. He was doomed from the beginning, we KNOW he was dead from the start. Plus all these references to "I'm already dead" - One Way Out, Maarva saying "now I'm dead" before she's actually died... delicious.
