The swingset he had sat on to stargaze was one of the few things of this new world he understood. And Gordon guessed that was because, like him, it wasn’t new at all. The entire playground stood, an endless reminder of what had been lost. A symbol. A grief. A prayer. A promise. 

It had remained. The swingset, rusted and broken and forced into complacency of horrors remained.

i've been debating posting my art for a while but secret life finally convinced me. thoughts under the cut

in my designs, martyn's hair gets longer every season. for practical reasons, he would have it in a braid by the end of limited life. and because i subscribe to the headcanon that the watchers erase player's memories of past series, except for the winners, he would start secret life with the same hairstyle. and thank GOD for it, cause if he had his hair loose i think it would've gotten caught on something in the cave and taken another half a heart of his health. that being said the braid does start pretty loose and ends even messier. he just had a really very bad no good day

in my limited life design, the ends of his headband are long and dramatically flowing in the wind. in secret life they're cropped shorter; i don't have as much of a reason for this except that the long ones look too badass for his pathetic wet cat self this season. i'm right for that.

i left out the tear mark on his cheek for now. we'll see if i add it in later-- i was mostly just drawing at a weird angle to include it. but it's also more of a "default design" and "between seasons" thing in my mind when i draw him.

the red mark that IS on his cheek is just a blush mark, stylized to look like a heart rate symbol because of how important hearts are this season. the life series already uses heart imagery to represent lives already, but now they have thirty hearts for themself and one to give away in addition to the typical red/yellow/green mechanic.

which of course brings me to the floating heart above his head. it's the heart he gave to jimmy. i don't think hearts are as free to hand out as martyn thinks. he left his heart with a canary and ventured into the mines on his own.

last thing. every season so far has had a very clear color palette in my mind and this season is just so purple. the watchers definitely being the secretkeeper and all. and especially in the aftermath of limited life... yea. his eyes are a lot more purple than i usually draw them.
