SCRIPTURE
2 Kings 2:9-12
Β When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, β€œAsk what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, β€œPlease let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” 10 And he said, β€œYou have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” 11 And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it and he cried, β€œMy father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more.
Β OBSERVATION
Key people: Elijah & Elisha
Β Elijah was taken up to heaven
The Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind. Elijah has advised Elisha three times to leave him because the Lord will take him, but Elisha also refused thrice. Elisha told Elijah that he will not leave him. When they were standing by Jordan, Elijah asked Elisha of what he shall do to him (Elijah) before he is going to be taken up from him. Elisha asked of Elijah’s double portion of his spirit. Elijah told Elisha that it was a hard thing and if he is going to see him being taken up from him it shall be done. Elisha saw Elijah was taken up by a whirlwind with chariots of Israel and its horsemen. Elisha then succeeds Elijah.
Elijah being taken up to heaven seemed a very powerful event to be witnessed. Elisha displayed a great desire to be like Elijah when he requested a double portion of him. Elijah has been used mightily of the Lord. The Lord always speaks to him and move through him. Elijah was indeed a mighty man of the Lord. Elisha asked to inherit Elijah’s ministry. He did not ask for anything, he just wanted to fulfill God’s purpose and call on his life.
APPLICATION
We must also ask of the double portion from the Lord. We must ask the Lord to fulfill His highest purpose for our lives. We must be willing to say Yes and let go of our old nature. In doing that we must go to the place of separation. We should not stay the same. If we want to move into the greater things God has for us, we must be willing to separate ourselves from the things that holds us back. Romans. 12:9 says, hate what is evil; cling to what is good. It’s one thing to experience a breakthrough or victory. But it’s something else to walk in the favor of God all the time, to live in His blessing and victory. It will not come easy, it will require effort from us but if we are willing, like Elisha, to chase after the double portion, the opportunity is always there. God already blessed us, and His cloak is already in us.
PRAYER
Thank you, Jesus for Your words of wisdom. I pray that like Elisha, give me a burning desire to be used mightily in your kingdom. I want to be an effective youth for Your glory. Always give me a desire to walk in Your will, do Your will. I pray that You will order my steps in Your word. I pray that my life will always be pleasing in Your eyes. Help me to do what is right and pleasing to Your sight. Nothing is impossible with You Lord. In times of weakness You have always been my strength. You promised that You will never leave me nor forsake me, and I am trusting in Your words. Thank you, Jesus, for being there always. I am trusting in You alone, In Jesus’ name. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
1 Kings 19:11 - 12
11 The Lord said, β€œGo out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
Β OBSERVATION
Elijah flees to Horeb because he became afraid of Jezebel because she plans to kill him. Elijah went into the wilderness, into a bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die saying that he had enough. When he fell asleep an angel of the Lord came to him and told him to get up and eat. He spent the night in a cave. The Lord then appears to him and told him to go out and stand on the mountain for the Lord is about to pass by. Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. A still small voice.
Elijah became tired in his journey that he wanted to die. But the Lord was so merciful unto Him and sees a lot of potential from Him. The Lord wanted Elijah to be strengthened. Β God also wanted the same for us. We may get tired and discouraged, but one thing is for sure. God has a lot of things in store for us. We should not give up. A still small voice also came to Elijah, after the fire, was a still small voice. We will only hear from God once we receive the spirit of the Lord. The Holy Ghost will teach us all things.
APPLICATION
The Lord truly cares for us and loves us deeply. He wants us to always seek Him and be not discouraged. When we desire for His fire, His spirit, He will surely come as a still small voice. The Lord sees our pain, our decisions, our heartaches, but He is a good and loving God. Only we should tell him how we feel. We will be certain that we will rest in His love.
PRAYER
Thank You Lord Jesus, for Your words. I may get discourage and tired most of the time, but I know that You are always watching me. Help me to always be honest to You and always tell You how or what I feel. I pray that You will always give me a hunger to Your spirit Jesus. I pray to know You more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
1 Kings 17:4
You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”
Β OBSERVATION
Β  Elijah was sent by the Lord to go to Zarepath and meet with him a widow. He was obedient to the command of the Lord and did what the Lord said unto him. The Lord told him that he will drink from the brook and he has directed the ravens to supply food for him. In meeting the widow, he asked of a little water in a jar and a piece of bread. The widow gave what he has asked. Eventually the woman’s son became ill and she asked Elijah if he was come to remind her of her sins. Elijah took the widow’s son, prayed to the Lord and the Lord heard his cry and the widow’s son has returned to life.
Β The Lord has promised Elijah that He will supply what he will need on his journey. If the Lord commands us to go somewhere, do something, say something, we must do it and not worry about what will happen next. When God commands, He also provides. Sometimes we just need to take a leap of faith because Jesus can anything and with His words, everything is possible.
Β APPLICATION
The God that we serve is an unlimited God. Sometimes we feel so discouraged that we don’t have a lot of things, but the Lord reminds us, that if we will just follow Him, everything is possible. We should not be worried of our future because it is already in God’s hands. He already knew it. We must walk in it, declare blessings in our lives. The Lord is waiting for us to have faith like a mustard seed. We have a powerful God that can do anything and will surely provide what we need.
PRAYER
Thank You Lord Jesus for Your words, I pray that You will always increase my faith in You. I pray that You will give me the courage and boldness to do what You instructs me to do. You are a powerful God and You can do anything. I adore You because You are a great God. Thank You Jesus for everything. I pray that I will grow deeper in Your words and that I may know You more. All this I pray in Your powerful name. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
1 Kings 13:21
21 and he cried out to the prophet from Judah, β€œThe Lord says that you disobeyed him and did not do what he commanded. 22 Instead, you returned and ate a meal in a place he had ordered you not to eat in. Because of this you will be killed, and your body will not be buried in your family grave.”
OBSERVATION
Β The prophet from Judah
A prophet from Judah went to Bethel and prophesied to Jeroboam. It also came to an old prophet of Bethel through his sons and asked which way did the prophet take. The old prophet found the prophet from Judah sitting under an oak tree. He asked the prophet to come home with him and eat a meal. The prophet told the old prophet that he cannot accept his hospitality and eat with him because the Lord has commanded him not to eat or drink a think, and not to return home the same way he came. The old prophet lied to the prophet and advised him that he is also a prophet and that through the Lord, an angel commanded that he should go with him to his home and eat. The prophet of Judah went home with the Old prophet and had a meal with him.
The prophet has been deceived twice. On first instance, Jeroboam already asked him and offered him a reward and he declined. The second time no reward was offered, it was just a simple invitation. The old prophet deceived him by using the name of the Lord.
Β 2 Things that can deceive us:
Β 1.Β Β Β Β Β  Money, Wealth, Worldly Riches
In verse 7, Jeroboam asked the prophet to come to him because of the good that he has done and has promised that he will give him a reward, but the prophet refused. We can see how great he was rooted to the commandment of the Lord. Refusing a reward is not easy. Sometimes Christians compromises their faith because of money.
Β 2.Β Β Β Β Β  False teaching, doctrine
In verse 18 the old prophet states, β€œat the Lord’s command” notice how he included the name of the Lord. He lied to the prophet and used the name of God in vain. The prophet believed that it was really a message from the Lord, and he went with him and was deceived. We can also be deceived by false teaching, false doctrine. We must pray to the Lord that He will only open our eyes to the truth.
APPLICATION
Many bible verses instruct us not to be deceived. This world has a lot of things that can deceive, distract us, and can weaken our faith. That is why we must renew our minds daily. We must always surrender our hearts and thoughts to the Lord. Pray without ceasing. Pray to have a discerning spirit. That we may fight against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness.
We must not depend on our emotion in worshipping the Lord. John 4:24, β€œβ€¦. they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” We must ask the Lord to always show us what is true. Let us set our affection on things above and always desire to seek the deeper understanding of God’s Words.
PRAYER
Thank You Lord Jesus for Your words. I pray that You will always fill my mind with Your thoughts. Give me a humble spirit to always kneel to You and seek the truth in You. Do not let the noise of this world hinder my relationship with You, instead renew me daily in Your spirit. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
1 Kings 12:8
But he ignored the advice of the older men and went instead to the young men who had grown up with him and who were now his advisers.
Β OBSERVATION
Rebellion of the Northern Tribes
Β Rehoboam went to Shechem, where all the people of northern Israel had gathered to make him king. People of the northern tribes asked him to make the burdens lighter and make life easier and promised him that they will be loyal to him. Β He consulted the older men and asked for their advice for the people and was commanded to give the people a favorable answer to their request so they will serve him loyally. Rehoboam ignored the advice of the older men and went instead to the younger men and sought their advice which instructs him to make the burdens heavier. Rehoboam spoke harshly of the people because of that, the people of Israel has rebelled against the dynasty of David.
Β As strangers and pilgrims in this world, we really need to have someone that will give us a good advice. The worthiest person that can give us the advice a God given wisdom is our pastors and elders. As mentioned in Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. God wanted his people to be wise. Rehoboam did not listen to the good advice which made the people turned away from him. If we will not listen to the word of God, most likely people will be disappointed to us and so is God.
Β Β APPLICATION
It is true that when there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory. Sometimes we feel that we already know everything and has not needed any advice. But the truth is, everyone of us needs it. We need someone’s opinion in everything that we do. We should not trust ourselves but instead we must always rely onto the Lord. He wants us to always be honest unto Him and tell Him how we feel. It is more peaceful if we will lay everything to the Lord as he also working on whatever situations we may have.
Β Β PRAYER
Thank You Jesus for Your words, I pray that you will help me not to think that I know it all. I pray to give me a heart that desires to seek You daily before checking on the things of this world. I pray Lord that You will give me a submissive heart that always seeks council to You, Your Words, and to my elders. I pray that You will always teach me to be humble and surrender everything to You. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
1Kings 11:2-6
From the nations concerning which theΒ LordΒ had said to the people of Israel,Β β€œYou shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.Β
He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.Β
For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, andΒ his heart was not wholly true to theΒ LordΒ his God,Β as was the heart of David his father.Β
Β For Solomon went afterΒ Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and afterΒ Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.Β
So, Solomon did what was evil in the sight of theΒ LordΒ and did not wholly follow theΒ Lord, as David his father had done.
Β Β OBSERVATION
Solomon loved many foreign women even though the Lord commanded the Israelites not to marry with these people. They made him turn away from God. They had led him into the worship of foreign gods. He sinned against the Lord. Sometimes the things that we allow to enter in our lives can make or break us. One compromise after another. We really must kneel to God before making some decisions in our lives. Solomon did not obey the Lord, but he turned away from Him. Because of that, the Lord has taken from him his kingdom but spared one tribe and that is because of David. The ten tribes have been given to Jeroboam and God made him king over Israel. King Solomon was king over Israel for forty years. His son rehoboam succeeded him as king.
Β Β APPLICATION
God is speaking to me to be careful with every decision that I am going to make, with every people that I am going to entertain and every conversation that I am going to have and will listen to. It will affect my thinking, which will become my habit and will soon be my character. I must desire the character of the Lord. In doing that, I must surrender everything to the Lord, my thinking. I must always pray to have a clean heart that I may discern what is right and pleasing in His eyes.
Β Β PRAYER
Thank you, Jesus for Your words. Help me to always submit in Your will. I pray that You will always give me a discerning spirit. I am surrendering my life and will to You and have your way in me. Always deliver me from situations that will not benefit in my eternal life and would cause me to doubt my faith in You. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
