This Planet Needs a Name makes me cry literally every time I listen to it, but it isn't a sad show! It's usually the hopeful, kind end notes, but sometimes it's the stopping in the middle of a heated argument to make sure your found family is ok. It's characters played by people who clearly care about each other and the characters. It's the love that shines out of it, always.

Reading this was one of the best damn experiences I've had making this show so far - and that's saying a lot. 💙💙💙
This Planet Needs A Name was showcased at the beginning of one of the recent Penumbra eps but honestly the trailer could not have prepared me for what it would actually be... the feeling of it is incredible, like an atmospheric impressionistic exploration game but make it a podcast? think like. Firewatch but instead of a national park it is a whole new planet with turquoise-colored plants...
it really nails the somewhat melancholic but profoundly hopeful high-altitude atmosphere so suitable for a plot about creating a new home for humanity, and the main cast of characters being a specifically built trained team of people who work well together creates a very pleasant comforting feeling. it’s a story of people who truly love each other and create something beautiful together, and i didn’t know how much i needed that. what we end up with is a weird beautiful combination of tight genuine friendship and connection and poetic loneliness of a small group of people being the first ones to land a beautiful blossoming and lonely planet, knowing they will spend the rest of their lives with each other and likely no one else. creating a future for people they will never meet. it is incredible. and the soundtrack supports and enhances this feeling perfectly, the music is truly beautiful!!! plus characters sing quite a lot which is a weakness of mine, and the voices are divine...
not to mention the diversity, something that specifically lights up my heart is persistent Jewish representation that ends up in the frame time after time and is not only established in a couple of throwaway lines!! bi polyamorous Jewish legend Zahava has my heart...
and to top it off, being conscious of the fact that the story is still very much a story of colonization, the creator-director-lead writer makes sure to urge the listeners to support Indigenous people native to the lands the cast lives on at the end of every full episode, providing links to specific fundraisers
they say the show is a product of love and belief that together we can create something beautiful, and that is the feeling that shines through every episode of it! it absolutely deserves a listen
