A fanart of Isildur for @fall-for-tolkien's Scribbles and Drabbles! My first time doing a limited palette thing. It was fun, maybe I should try that again at some point. Fun fact: the palette is picked from a photo of an oystercatcher hanging out on a stone against a background of grey water that I took some years ago

A moment of respite
One of my pieces for @fall-for-tolkien's Scribbles and Drabbles event! Depicting Elrond and Celeborn in the military camp that will one day become Imladris, during the War of Elves and Sauron. Admittedly I kinda ran out of time and patience to work on this piece so it's a bit rough, but eh, it is what it is

Eärendil and Elwing both survived the destruction of their home planets as children, and grew up on the space station Sirion built by the survivors. Now they are both grown adults and have children together. But then the station intercepts a cryptic signal, which seems to hold clues to the location of Valinor, the mythical lost planet said to be a paradise like no other - and the signal is bearing the callsign of Eärendil's parents who were lost in space years ago...

you've inspired me to art again!! all your stuff is so cool, especially what you do with highlighters! I've never seen it done before
Aaaa thank you!!! I'm so glad to hear that, I hope that you have fun with your own art projects! <3
I initially kind of started doing the highlighter thing as a shading practice, because I felt that the distinct different color helped me figure out the shadows better than doing it in the same pencil or pen as I did lineart with (plus it helps a bit in differentiating between color and texture of for example a character's clothes, and the shadows as such), but then I just really fell in love with the way the results looked!
If you want to try the highlighters for yourself, what I tend to use is Stabilo's pastel highlighters; of course, experiment and find what works best for you, but I've found that to my eye the pastel colors work better than the more traditionalvery bright neon colors, though i've tried some of those on occasion too. Also, be aware that the highlighters (probably because they're not intended for use in art the way i use them) can fade and change colors over time, so you may want to take photos of them before they do, to be able to go back and see what they originally looked like even after they begin to fade!
