I don't understand why Hannibal turning himself in is considered cruel by the fanbase. Bryan Fuller says Hannibal knew that Will couldn't live without him. He was doing Will a favour by being where he'd always know where to find him.

just. some thpughts
will graham is not a heartless, soulless bastard of a man. YES! he is a liar and a manipulator. but even monsters played on sunny days as children and watched cable and scraped their knees and whatever. will graham is a bad person, yeah, but he REALLY is not the kind some people are making him out to be ??? will graham states on MULTIPLE occasions that what he's doing with jack is out of necessity to help other people. he says this kind of thing IN FRONT OF HANNIBAL. would he lie to hannibal?? 100 percent without a doubt!! but this was a point where his brain was frying and he was losing time and he really had NO reason to lie. he was vulnerable and I would go so far to say he was honest. the will graham in s3 is the same yet entirely different person as s1 and s2 will. he's gone through so many changes that you can NOT say he was being manipulative and lying the ENTIRE show. I am so so passionate about this show and seeing the aggressive mischaracterization of this man (which I'm still writing abt in a separate post) hurts me body and soul atp. he DOES love. he DOES have friendship. I know for a fact he at least appreciates his dogs!!! will graham is not a saint and he isn't the antichrist. hannibal as a show is NEVER black and white. please for the love of love 🙏🙏 let the man have humanity

There's quite a few things showing Will wasn't perfectly content actually. But it's more subtle than with Hannibal because Will is more repressed than Hannibal.
Will never touches Molly - even once! Even while she got shot, he touched the pillow beside her head. Compare that to how easily he touches Abigail, even when she was cold to him and their relationship wasn't close, and how he reaches out to Hannibal in the finale.
When we first see Will, Molly and Walter are fishing, and Will stays behind. Fishing is an activity Will loves, he imagines fishing with Abigail, so why isn't he with them?
They deleted a lot of scenes from the scripts which had Molly and Will kissing, touching, smiling at each other, and generally being a lot more loving.
Will never refers to Walter as his own, while Molly and Walter both refer to him as Walter's dad. He constantly places himself outside of the family unit.
Will left Molly alone with Jack so he could show her the crime scene photos. It was a very blatant manipulation. Later when she got shot and said she was angry at Jack, he says Jack knew what he was doing, but so did he. He knew what would happen, and went anyway, because Hannibal's pull was that strong.
Someone else pointed out in their post that their house has antler decorations all over, and the script says Will feels Hannibal's presence when he's surrounded by antlers.
The first night Will works on the case, he calls Molly. She doesn't answer.
The second night Will works on the case, he calls Molly, she does answer this time, but he becomes upset when she says he has a criminal mind. In answer to Molly making a long speech saying she loves him, misses him and will be there for him, Will only says, "Goodnight, Molly".
When Molly and Walter are in the hospital, they watch baseball, which means they miss their old husband and father who died, who was a baseball player. It was them rejecting Will in a way.
Will is angry at Walter for asking questions, and calls him an "11 year old". He seemed angrier Walter found out about his past, than he is concerned about Walter.
I don't know about you, but this smile looks almost painful and not genuine at all. It looks like Will was dead inside the whole family dinner.

12. Francis Dolarhyde attacks happy families, and he attacked Molly and Walter and Hannibal and Will separately.
So...yeah. There's a lot showing Will wasn't perfectly happy. I agree it should have been more obvious though, like it was with Hannibal.
I think one thing that always bothers me about the Red Dragon arc is - well, it’s a common talking point in the fandom that each half of season 3 represents Hannibal and Will, respectively, living the lives they’d ideally want but without each other. But the thing is, we don’t actually really see much of Will “living without Hannibal.”
Like, in 3A, we get an entire episode of Hannibal’s life without Will, one in which Will doesn’t even show up (and for a season premiere, that’s an even more radical departure from the status quo - we feel Will’s absence as much as Hannibal does) but it feels like there’s this void of negative space where he is. And the contours of that void are so brilliantly and subtly suggested through the flashbacks to Gideon, which contextualizes the preparation of Bedelia (the inadequate substitute for Will Graham) and underlines Hannibal’s need to have others bear witness to his artistry (again, something only reluctantly done by Bedelia, and done in a manner unsatisfactory to him by Anthony Dimmond, the episode’s other unsatisfactory replacement for Will who gets recycled as a macabre valentine for Will). So Gideon saying “if only that someone could be Will Graham” feels like the culmination of what everything that has until now been unspoken has been leading up to.
And in 3B, we don’t really get any kind of analogue to that with Will. In some ways, that makes sense - given Hannibal’s Hannibal-ness, it’s possible to devote an entire episode to his murder and identity theft shenanigans and get some entertaining television out of it. But the life Will is living is a lot more mundane, so it’d be pretty boring to watch forty minutes of him fixing boats and playing with his dogs and eating dinner with his family.
But I do think there should have been something to indicate potential cracks there. We could potentially have had some bits of Will’s life interspersed with the expositional sections of episode 8 that were dedicated to Hannibal being a little shit while in prison, maybe featuring Will being haunted by murder (in the form of the disturbing visions the show is so good at) or missing Hannibal and feeling out of sync with Molly and Walter somehow (as opposed to waiting to get back to Will until literally the equivalent of the first chapter of Red Dragon). Or, they could have been included in flashback form in episode 9 alongside Hannibal’s memories of Abigail (especially in keeping with the themes of family, and Hannibal’s cruel contrast of the family he tried to give Will with the family Will chose for himself).
I get that time constraints were a concern, but ideally, this sort of thing would have helped a lot. Because what we actually get is somehow, simultaneously, Will leaving his family (apparently on a suicide mission) without any kind of mention of them at all, and Will seeming perfectly content with them without much qualification. (And even the book gives us more potential cracks in his marriage - both in it being made clear that Will never expected the marriage to last, and in the “maddening politeness” he endures near the end. The show does give us a little bit of that with the friction between Will and Walter after Dolarhyde’s attack, but Molly still isn’t as angry or distant with Will in the wake of that attack as she should be for me to really buy the dissolution of that family.)
So, all of that is to say that, while 3B has grown on me quite a lot, I think it fails to show us the Hannibal-shaped negative space in Will’s life. And I don’t buy the argument that we should just take it for granted that of course Will couldn’t live without Hannibal. Just as with the Minnesota Shrike, I need to see a negative to fully see the positive.

I hate when people say Will was sooo happy with Molly as if this isn't the fakest smile you've ever seen:
Tumblr media
Will even leaves Molly alone with Jack so Jack can persuade her to let him go and she can persuade Will in turn. It was all part of his plan to absolve himself of responsibility and pretend he had to return.

kinda messy because I'm busy in real life hehe
post s-3 first kiss scenario because I love the idea of Will starting their first kiss. Something is always going on in a kitchen with these two.......
Idk why Will looks so scared as if he's gonna get rejected by the guy who has been dreaming about this for 4-5 years. But in the third drawing Hannibal either nodded at him or it was the eye contact+gay telepathic communication that made Will kiss him again
can be seen as part of my s4 series
