You teach your son your craft. You are a carpenter, and poor. It's hard work, but an honest one: a skill you've honed for years and years. It's the most important thing you own that you can bequeath him - a livelihood which he can use to carve out his own. You teach your son how to swing a hammer, so if he becomes a carpenter in the future, he will know how to use it, and not hurt himself in the process.
I'm glad Joseph died before the Crucifixion.

Apologies! Here's the plain text:
A Compilation of Jesus Foreshadowings in Good Omens 1 and 2: 1. The Crucifixion (Hard Times, S1E3)
While he had been a throw-away character in s1, we now know through s2 that characters who may not seem that important in the 30-minute cold open of S1E3 can totally be expounded on.
Establishing Jesus' character so early on won't make his theorized appearance in season 3 too abrupt. We also now know how the main protagonists perceive him: a bright young man they can sympathize with.
2. The Lazarii Metric (The Clue, S2E2; I Know Where I'm Going, S2E3)
Season two introduces Lazarii, the unit used to measure miracles.
It's a reference to Lazarus of Bethany, the man Jesus raised from the dead six days before his Crucifixion.
"When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out!' The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face." - John 11: 43-44 NIV
As we'll soon see, the raising of the dead will be a recurring theme in the Second Coming Narrative.
3. The Resurrectionist (The Clue, S2E2; I Know Where I'm Going, S2E3)
A double entendre. The Resurrectionist refers both to the body snatcher Dr. Dalrymple, and to Jesus, who raised his friend (then himself) from the dead.
Once again, the pub sign references Jesus' raising of Lazarus from the dead. It's important to note that while Dr. Dalrymple appears in this minisode, Jesus does not. And yet this is the sign, anyway.
4. The Second Coming (I Know Where I'm Going, S2E3; Everyday, S2E6)
The Second Coming is the Christian Belief that Jesus Christ will return to Earth to 'judge the living and the dead' after his ascension to heaven.
According to the Book of Revelation, The Second Coming will first be precipitated by Armageddon. After widespread death and destruction, the dead will then "walk the earth once more" so they may be judged by Christ. Good Omens s1 only touched on the first part of Armageddon; supposedly, when the world had ended and the great beast (Adam) was defeated, Christ will come down to enact the last judgment.
"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done." Revelation 20:13 NIV
5. The Book of Life (Arrival, S2E1; Everyday, S2E6)
The Book of Life has been mentioned plenty of times in the Book of Revelation. It is the scroll (or book) that the Christ will use in the Final Judgment.
"Another book was opened, which is the book of life.... Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire." Revelation 20: 12,15 NIV
6. Thy Kingdom Airways (Good Omens S2 Opening Credits)
In the past, both authors have divulge that 668: Neighbor of the Beast (the unwritten Good Omens Sequel) featured Jesus coming down to Earth on a Silver Airplane. This appeared in the opening credits of s2.
"Thy Kingdom" is a phrase that can be found in the Lord's Prayer, which was allegedly taught by Jesus himself (Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done.) "Thy Kingdom Come" is also yet another reference to the Second Coming.
Here's a compilation of every Jesus foreshadowing I could find so far in Good Omens s1 and s2. This also includes my notes on what these hints may be referencing to (based on the Book of Revelation as the source material we will be parodying for s3, plot hints about 668: Neighbor of the Beast that were dropped over the years, and finally the themes and motifs that had been established in s1 and s2.)
When put together, it's actually incredible how much his character had already been foreshadowed in the past two seasons.

The Supreme Archangel Gabriel could not have lurked if he wanted to. Even his human corporation shines brighter than a dozen tiny suns; it illuminates the gloomy patch of clearing they were in. His Tyrian Purple robes match his eyes, which look unimpressed. "An olive garden, Aziraphale? Could we not have chosen a classier place to fulfill the Mystery?" He wrinkles his nose. "Reeks of cow manure in here."
Aziraphale tries not to wince; he almost succeeds. "It's actually Jesus' choice to come up here. He wanted to – talk to the Almighty, you know. Speak with Her, before the Hour arrives."
"Speak with Her?" Gabriel raises an immaculate eyebrow. "Why? Is he having doubts?"
"Hm?" Aziraphale glances distractedly at the grove of olives to his left. Twenty paces more and Gabriel would have his answer. "Oh, no. No, absolutely not. He knows what's about to happen – told us all about it since his miracle at Bethany. He's ready." Despite his mounting fear he cannot help but feel a rush of pride for his ward. "I know he is."
"Mm. Right. Well, just checking in." Gabriel claps Aziraphale none too lightly on the shoulder. "All according to schedule, I hope? I'd hate to report to Head Office that Salvation's going to be a few minutes late."
He laughs heartily at his own joke. Aziraphale joins in, and he desperately wishes that he cannot taste the ashes in his mouth. "Yes, yes. All – all according to plan."

And when Ethel Cain said, "But I always knew that in the end no one was coming to save me, so I just prayed, and I keep praying, and praying, and praying." And when Jesus said, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." And when Ethel Cain said, "God loves you, but not enough to save you." And when Jesus said "My God, My God why have you forsaken me?"

Put Judas Iscariot in the mix as well.
If truly the story has been told from the very beginning - that the coming of Jesus is fulfillment of those prophecies - then for it to be fulfilled, there must be a designated villain. One chosen to betray the Son of Man so he dies and the myth becomes real.
And so if the Christian God (and subsequently his 'Son') is omniscient, then why make Judas an Apostle in the first place? Why make him part of the 12? Or was he only chosen to be the Traitor from the start? How could he be given false hope - try so hard to be good - when he was ALWAYS meant to betray his master?
In the end, God loved him too. But not enough to save him.
the tragedy of lot's wife and orpheus is that they were both set up to fail

I will cut off a man's ear, if it means I could protect you. And I will be called 'the devil,' if it means I could save you. And I will falter at times -- thrice to be precise -- but i will fiercely affirm my love just as much. And when I die I'll die the way you did, loving you. I loved you, I love you, still I love you.
OH, to be loved the way Simon Peter loved Jesus. I will walk on water for you. I will swim turbulent seas to get to you. There is a tent I will build, and we could stay there, if it means I could keep you. I love you, I love you, I love you.

OH NO YOURE RIGHT I DID READ THROUH THE GDOCS OF THIS GSKZSGS IT WAS SO GOOD THOOO i especially loved Dream slumming it up in Hob's mansion I distinctly remember how much i loved their lil bubble of domestic bliss 😭 And yeah I don't see anymore fishbowl fics anymore which is a damm shame bec it's one of my favorite tropes. 🤧🤧 Cheers to this tho! U are such a phenomenal writer (but you knew that)
Ok i'm a lil bit familiar w/ some of your WIPS here but the Sandman Fishbowl WIP is making me 👀👀 Can I ask about that, pls? 💗
ITS LITERALLY ONE OF THE FIRST SANDMAN FICS I EVER WROTE i DID share with you 😭😭😭 this was back whem Fishbowl Fics were still all the rage but i left it behind like 3 chapters in and forgot about it and now nobody is doing fishbowl fics anymore 😔😔😔😔. Basically Hob saves Dream from the Fishbowl and lives with Hob for a little after bc Hob manages to persuade they look for the tools human style. Its very similar to softest punk's Shelter except obviously softest punk actually published it and did it a whole lot better than I ever could. Anyway heres a snippet;
Through the ringing of his ears, something speaks.
It resonates through the very bricks of the manor, and it trembles from it. It is from deep within the soul, of the mind, velvet seduction of a nightmare.
(It is a voice Hob knows well.)
"Roderick Burgess."
It echoes from everywhere, quiet and earth-shaking, from nowhere at all. Hob shakes his head, rapid, like a dog shaking rain off his coat.
"Do you know what you have done?"
I'm bleeding, Hob registers dimly, hands aching from torn open knuckles and peppered bits of glass, dusting his cheeks, his palms, the cold slick of the wall the blast had pushed him against. He uses it as leverage, hauling himself upwards.
"For your monstrous greed, and petty arrogance, lives have been lost, and innocents have suffered."
The worst of the shrapnel had exploded forwards, in the direction of the gate, well away from Hob's angle of safety. The heavy mist had spread, spread, spread, and the manor is dead silent.
Burgess Junior is slumped against the wall, motionless save-Hob notices with surprise-the shaky movements of his chest.
Hob finds them.
"No," cries Roderick Burgess, perched on his knees as Johanna Constantine had been in their pub, in 1789. His eyes are fogged white, unnatural, and he twitches violently from visions he cannot escape. "No, no, no, Randall, please-my son, my boy-,"
"You shall live as you had wished, Roderick Burgess."
The Stranger says, standing with an outstretched hand, stance straight and sure, and his face doused in shadows. Inhuman. The order is made in finality. His lips move, but only barely.
"And you shall beg for death."
With the sullen proclamation, the Stranger lowers his hand, and with it, it seems, the last of his strength.
Hob watches as he collapses within himself, like an imposing tower finally reduced to rubble to reveal its cracked foundations at last. He moves without thinking, and catches his Stranger before he hits the ground, gathering him into his lap. The air is no longer so deathly cold as it had been before, but his Stranger shivers still. His greatcoat had been taken from him, but Hob takes off his own shirt to cover him despite his protests, and urges him to stand.
"We need to get out of here," Hob tells him. "It's dawn soon, and the cops might be here any moment."
"My tools," the Stranger insists. "They were taken from me."
Hob is trying to figure out a gentle way to press that they are surrounded by dead bodies, a writhing old man and a quiet party, before he hears it again; familiar bird trills.
The Stranger perks, head whipping to turn towards the entrance.
"Jessamy."
Before Hob could feel bitter from the reverential tone used for an unfamiliar woman's name, the large white-breasted raven finds them, and Hob almost startles. In his lap, his Stranger places a hand to his chest, and Hob calms despite himself.
The raven flutters nervously, but decides, finally, to land on the floor by Hob's knee. She titters with worry, bumping against his Stranger's outstretched palm, and he practically slumps further from relief.
"Jessamy," Hob mutters. "She's yours?"
The Stranger doesn't answer, turning his head to bury his face in his chest instead, body shaking still, from exhaustion, anger, or the cold, perhaps even all three at once. He doesn't try to get him to stand again. His body aches, but he feels his miracle working already, how his skin begins to knit and spit glass from his flesh, leaving behind silvery scars or nothing at all. He counts to three, and with a single breath, lifts the entity in his arms, cradled in his arms in a bridal carry.
His Stranger had always been thin, but he is light, lighter than Hob knows he should be. He tries not to panic about it.
"I'm taking him home." He tells the bird. "Find the tools he's talking about, and follow us."
The bird flaps her wings twice, and caws.
"I'll keep him safe," Hob swears, with inadvisable conviction. "I promise."
This, finally, mollifies her, and Hob follows her up the stairs.
The party is silent, and bodies are slumped on floors, against tables and walls. It takes him a second glance to realize they weren't dead, as he had assumed. He hears snoring, even, and quickened breaths.
"They're sleeping?" Hob asks, walking quickly but treading carefully over their bodies.
The Stranger nods, eyes closed.
"For how long?"
"Forever."
Not dead, Hob surmised. But they might as well be.

little splinter
There is an ache
Inside my chest that
My mother gave to me
When she gave me
To the world
A tiny splinter
Right on the side
Of my tiny little heart
And I cried and I cried
And it ached and it ached
And my mother did not
Pull the splinter out
Because she did not know how
The tiniest splinter
That she gave to me
The tiniest splinter
That has grown with me
I wonder if she knows
She had made me imperfect
When she presented me to the world
Cracks in the clay
Marks of fingers
Grooves in the earth
All solidifying
In the process of drying and firing
I wonder if she knew
That I would be this fragile
That I would be
So terribly made
That I would crack this easily
I wonder if she knew
That this splinter
Would unravel me
From the inside out
That a little pull
Would untangle
All the blood vessels
Keeping me whole
I wonder if she knew
That my tiny splinter
This thing that's grown in me
Has been poison to my blood
And harm to my body
I wonder if she knew
That she built me for destruction
That her design was abandoned
To construct me destructive
To make me an unmaker
To build me to demolish
I wonder if she knew
She had taught me destruction
By way of example
I wonder if she knew
I had learned to build
From the wreckage
She has taught me to make
I wonder if she knew
I knew how to build
By knowing how I'd ruined
I wonder if she wondered
How long it took
For me to piece me
Back together
When she taught me
How do destroy me

Heaven on Their Minds is such an unreal opener for a musical, both in terms of its lyrics and how it subverts the usual form of the medium. If I think about it too much I WILL explode.
