Healing Together
Tumblr media
Six Benefits of Group Healing for Depression
Introduction
Some of the most common statements made by sufferers of depression are, “No one understands me,” “I feel alone,” and ”there’s something wrong with me.”
Depression often leads to feelings of loneliness and helplessness and may trigger isolation for those who are under its grip. In a society where individualism is idealized and promoted, many individuals feel ashamed to ask for help and suffer in silence because they fear burdening their friends and family with their problems.
Support groups are a powerful resource for people with depression, and can offer a supportive path toward healing. This blog post will explore the numerous benefits of support groups as an essential component of depression management and recovery.
1. A Sense of Belonging
Believe it or not, you are not alone; that’s right, you and millions of others struggle with depression, and you deserve support!
There is this profound sense of camaraderie and a feeling of being understood when you join a support group. Sharing experiences with others who understand your pain and can relate to the challenges of depression can be incredibly validating.
The instant feeling of belonging and sense of connection often reduces the crippling feelings of isolation, shame, and self-blame often associated with depression.
2. Emotional Support and Validation
Support groups have also been found to boost self-esteem, foster empathy, improve understanding and increase resilience.
You may be surprised to learn how many members of that group feel alone and misunderstood and want to share their triumphs and setbacks without fearing they will be judged or humiliated. Interestingly enough, when we are in an emotional crisis, we may desire connection; however, our brain tends to prioritize protection over connection, which causes many of us to isolate and feel even worse.
The emotional support within the group can help participants see their worth beyond their depression. Those who can bypass the racing thoughts and fear of judgment may allow themselves to seek support; the right facilitator and support group can offer a safe space to express our feelings openly.
3. Practical Coping Strategies
Support groups are meant to be supportive spaces where participants can share their stories, valuable solutions, and practical coping strategies that are invaluable.
Support groups can empower individuals to take a proactive role in their recovery. Since there is no one way to heal, support groups are ideal for exchanging insights, helpful mindfulness techniques, self-care practices, or methods for improving sleep and nutrition.
4. Reduced Stigma
It’s unfortunate that depression is stigmatized and it’s one of the numerous reasons why many are fearful of seeking therapy and suffer in silence.
After all, who wants to be viewed ‘weak’ or ‘crazy?’ Participating in a depression support group can help break down mental health stigma.
Members openly discussing their experiences increases awareness and challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about depression. This can also lead to greater societal acceptance and understanding, making it easier for individuals to seek help when needed.
5. Accountability and Motivation
Support groups create a supportive environment wherein members can achieve personal and collective growth, set goals, track progress, and celebrate achievements. Healing is amplified when support is multiplied, and where better to get that support than in a support group?
Group dynamics often foster a sense of accountability. Knowing that others are also working towards recovery validates and motivates individuals to stay committed to their healing path.
6. Learning from Diverse Perspectives
Support groups can bring together people from various ethnicities, identities, beliefs, and walks of life. Learning fuels growth, especially when there is exposure to multiple perspectives.
This diversity can be enriching and allow participants to develop their understanding of themselves and others while learning from others’ experiences of depression. It can also broaden one’s knowledge of coping skills, diminish judgment, and allow members to test the validity of their perception while nurturing members cohesiveness.
Conclusion
Joining a support group for depression offers many benefits, from a sense of belonging and emotional support to practical coping strategies and reduced stigma.
These groups provide a lifeline for those looking for collective, authentic help to feel less lonely, improve their coping skills, and get support to stay motivated about remaining in treatment or do the work to heal.
Depression is a challenging experience, but it doesn’t have to be faced alone.
Remember, healing is amplified when support is multiplied!

Therapy For EMDR In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Your body will say what your mouth won’t say, and you will continue to feel depressed because of what you suppress.
Many of us have mastered the art of suppressing, denying and ignoring traumatic experiences, because being vulnerable may be viewed as weakness, and has never felt safe. There are instances wherein traumatized individuals feel ashamed, alone in the world, and they tend to minimize their suffering. Unprocessed traumas may manifest as: • anxiety • chronic pain • depression • gut issues • lack of sleep, numbness, • social isolation • people-pleasing • recurring toxic relationships • self-hate and chronic shame • unwanted intrusive thoughts, disturbing dreams
In other words, individuals with a traumatized brain often experience symptoms associated with past traumas on a daily basis. Therapies such as EMDR which was developed in the 1980s by Francine Shapiro, a professor at UCLA during her attempts to treat PTSD. EMDR stands for eye-movement, desensitization and reprocessing. EMDR has been very successful in allowing the traumatized brain and body to process traumatic memories naturally, eradicate negative core beliefs and release trapped toxic stress.
EMDR incorporates movements, or bilateral Tapping, and is used to facilitate overall healing. Our therapists are intentional about screening everyone to determine if this form of therapy is ideal to address the issues that are being presented. We have had much success with our use of EMDR to eradicate:
• Anxiety • Depression • Negative core beliefs, • Chronic pain, • Grief anxiety • Self-Sabotage
EMDR requires consistent attendance, mutual trust between therapist and client, and a commitment to doing the work that is necessary to build up a tolerance needed for processing. An EMDR session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and the overall effects after each session tends to be positive. One cannot determine with certainty length of time for treatment sessions as it is dependent upon the individual’s overall progress.
You will be in control during EMDR sessions, and are invited to advocate for yourself, and set boundaries as needed during processing. Our team members who specialize in EMDR therapy will guide, support you, and ensure that you are able to receive maximum benefits.

Emotional Freedom
Tumblr media
I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical at first. It all seemed too easy. I wondered how something that has caused me so much stress and anxiety could be relieved just by tapping and repeating a phrase. My initial intensity was about a seven out of ten; this issue I was working on definitely did bother me, but I did not realize just how much at first. After the first round of the EFT sequence I did not feel much of a difference in the intensity than I felt before; however, after a few times of or acting the Emotional Freedom Technique I began to feel the tension and emotions travel throughout my body. I even felt like crying at one point, and my first instinct was to hold back my tears. I was reminded not to hold anything back, and I began crying uncontrollably. I kept repeating the tapping sequence and the phrase. One second I was crying and the next I just stopped. In an instant felt all this tension just leave my body, and after a few more rounds of tapping, I felt that this issue that was just causing me so much stress was almost completely gone. I felt free.
The Emotional Freedom Technique – also known as EFT or tapping – works similarly to acupuncture by tapping on your body’s meridian points to relieve tension related to negative emotions and memories that have become trapped inside your body. EFT tapping involves tapping on these meridian points while repeating a phrase. The first step of the emotional freedom technique is identifying the issue and its intensity. Then you repeat a phrase that acknowledges the source of your discomfort and reaffirms your acceptance of yourself. This phrase is repeated as you go through the EFT tapping sequence. Finally, you assess the intensity again and repeat this sequence until you feel free from the stress and negativity this issue has caused.
For more information about the Emotional Freedom Technique and how you may benefit from tapping, contact us.

Unpacking EMDR
Tumblr media
The Ultimate Guide to Overcoming Anxiety and Trauma
Over the past four years, terms like trauma, anxiety, and therapy have been trending across social media. There’s also been a surge in people being more empowered to seek knowledge about their mental health and explore effective treatment options like EMDR, to address their struggle with anxiety and trauma.
What is EMDR, Anyway?
EMDR, aka Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is a mouthful of a name and it packs a powerful punch. EMDR isn’t just your run-of-the-mill therapy – it’s like having a heart-to-heart with your shadow while waving goodbye to anxiety. This technique dives deep into your unconscious mind while helping you rewrite the script of past traumas that have been holding you back. EMDR therapy facilitates the rewiring of your brain so you will no longer feel emotionally debilitated and anxious by the memories of traumatic experiences that have been fueling your anxiety. A trained therapist guides you through recalling these experiences while doing bilateral stimulation typically through directed eye movements, body tapping, or sounds.
How Does EMDR Work?
When intense stress from trauma overwhelms us, we might feel unsafe, helpless, and isolated. This can dysregulate our nervous system, impacting brain function, body, and well-being. Additionally, our brain begins to prioritize safety over connection, often leading to further complications In EMDR therapy, you and your therapist explore past traumas, unpacking the emotions, images, and feelings that trigger anxiety. Together, you’ll build coping skills to boost stress tolerance during processing, ensuring a safe journey without re-traumatization. Once the processing starts, your therapist guides bilateral stimulation, such as tapping or eye movements, activating both sides of the brain to neutralize emotional trauma. This transformative process empowers you to move beyond survival mode and embrace a thriving, balanced life.
Why Should You Consider EMDR?
Is EMDR worth it? Hell Yes! EMDR is backed by research and is effective for treating reducing anxiety, alleviating symptoms of PTSD, and even improving your overall mental well-being. Plus, your body gets a chance to release all the trapped toxic stress it has been storing. Furthermore, it’s a heck of a lot quicker than traditional talk therapy, so you can spend less time dwelling on the past and more time enjoying the present.
Is EMDR Right for You?
While EMDR isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, it’s worth exploring if you’re struggling with anxiety, trauma, or other emotional challenges. To ensure you get the most out of your experience it’s essential to work with a licensed therapist who’s trained in EMDR so that you can explore your challenges, needs, and resources to determine if EMDR is safe, and an ideal approach for you.
Ready to Take the Plunge?
Whether you’re battling anxiety, processing trauma, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, EMDR could be the missing link to rewiring your brain so those anxious feelings no longer have a stronghold over you.
You deserve support, you deserve to thrive, and you deserve to live your best life.
Until next time, be kind to yourself, you deserve it!

Substance Abstinence Therapy In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
What kind of damage has substance abuse caused to your relationships?
There is typically an underlying cause for drug or alcohol abuse; some may use it because of the enjoyable effects, environmental influence, social anxiety, grief, childhood abuse, helplessness, and mental illness. Whether someone uses drugs or alcohol to avoid intense emotions or escape relationship problems, if the source of the stressors is not addressed, chances are he or she may continue to use drugs to cope.
No one uses drugs, because they want to become addicted and destroy their lives. Unfortunately, what we repeat becomes a habit, and habits lead to addiction. Alcohol and drugs trigger euphoria, and excitement in the brain, and it makes the unbearable tolerable, even for a moment. Each time you drink or use drugs when you are stressed out you are changing and training your brain to expect drugs the next time you are distressed.
It’s time to get the support of a therapist if you:
Have lost control and are using increasing amounts of drugs or alcohol to escape
Have tried to cut down or quit with little or no success
Notice that alcohol or drug use is affecting your day-to-day functioning
Need to use alcohol or drugs to manage urges and avoid withdrawal
Are feeling ashamed of your dependence on alcohol or drugs to get through the day
Are experiencing recurring conflicts in your relationships due to ongoing use
Are isolating to avoid confrontation about your alcohol or drug use
Our sessions are offered individually and are between a licensed therapist and the client. Support is paramount to recovery, therefore, at the request of our clients and the recommendation of the licensed therapist family sessions are offered.
We are committed to working with you to identify the “why” behind your substance use. Our approach is as follows:
Clinical evaluation to identify stressors leading to substance use
Develop healthy alternative coping skills
Process unresolved trauma that is leading to drug use
Develop self-awareness and self-compassion
Develop conflict-resolution and boundary-setting skills
Develop an abstinence recovery action plan
Since the healing journey is unique to each individual, our therapists assess client histories obtained from clinical evaluation, and assessment tools, and we use a combination of evidenced-based techniques to help our clients manage addictions and triggers. We utilize trauma therapies such as:
AEDP for attachment trauma
Bilateral Stimulation
Brainspotting
EMDR
Motivational Interviewing
Somatic Therapy
There is an ongoing collaboration between the therapist and client to assess progress and ensure that needs are appropriately met. If at any time we determine that you can benefit from a higher level of care, we will explore alternative treatment options with you and make appropriate referrals.
Reach out so we can help you identify the roots of your addiction and gain control of your life.

ADHD WITH DEPRESSION
Tumblr media
Understanding how ADHD can impact Depression
When most people think of someone diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) they are probably picturing a child who has an immense amount of energy who requires constant redirection and supervision. Although ADHD is recognized as the “hyper child diagnoses”, it should not be taken lightly. People diagnosed with ADHD often develop depression due to symptoms. ADHD is a frequently diagnosed mental illness with young males, but it can also affect both women and adult populations. People with ADHD struggle with sustaining focus and attention for long periods of time, experience fatigue and worry, restlessness, hopelessness and even poor self-confidence. In addition to the risk of depression, persons with ADHD are also at a higher risk of suicidal ideation due to impulsive thoughts and feelings of helplessness.
ADHD and depressive symptoms can often overlap each other, potentially causing a person to experience depression and suicidality. For example, a person with poor time management and low frustration tolerance may easily experience depression. Take my client for example who I will refer to as “Johnny”. Johnny suffers from poor concentration and sustained focus both in school and at home. Johnny struggles to complete tasks and often speaks out of turn. Johnny has been experiencing a decline in mood and displays frequent crying, guilt and isolation due to not being able to keep up with his peers and friends in school. Johnny has also found it more difficult to connect and build relationships with his peers and classmates often making him feel isolated and unworthy. Johnny no longer finds interest in his usual activities and is feeling hopeless and defeated. After discussing conversations about current triggers and stressors with Johnny, I identified that Johnny was experiencing depression. Although Johnny’s experience isn’t the same with everyone diagnosed with ADHD, it’s important to understand how ADHD and depression can impact each other.
Persons diagnosed with ADHD should always be screened for any other presenting symptoms. Although there is no single test that diagnoses ADHD, it can be determined through clinical assessments or medical examinations by either a clinical therapist, psychiatrist or primary care physician. Treatment options for ADHD and depression can be in the form of psychiatric medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, other talk therapies or psychoeducation. If you or someone you know is experiencing the combined symptoms of ADHD and depression contact your doctor and seek professional support.

5 Facts About Students’ Mental Health
Tumblr media
1. Anxiety is the top mental health concern among students closely followed by depression.

2. Most people experience the first signs of mental illnesses in their teenage years to early 20s.
About 50% of mental illnesses begin by age 14 and 75% begin by age 24.
3. Untreated mental illnesses can negatively affect your grades and social life.
Mental illnesses like anxiety and depression can affect every aspect of your life. Those suffering from mental illnesses can become socially withdrawn and may find it very difficult to concentrate and be productive.

Family Therapy In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Do you feel like the black sheep of your family?
Are you constantly being blamed for family drama?
Recurring themes of lying, bullying, manipulation, favoritism, verbal abuse, guilt-tripping, unhealthy boundaries, and secrets, are common control mechanisms often used in families to maintain control.
This can cause significant mental, emotional, and physical distress to the more vulnerable members within that family unit. Toxic family interactions can also fuel anxiety, depression, feelings of helplessness, low self-esteem and traumatic-loneliness.
Many individuals tend to view themselves as the problem, and assume responsibility for conflict within their families to make sense of the dysfunction.
A toxic family dynamic tends to function as many bodies, with one identity. Conflict is normal but many families do not know how to manage conflict in a healthy way.
You cannot force your family members to go to therapy, or change, however, if your family is willing and ready to do the work, change can happen. Here’s how we can help:
Develop understanding of family dynamics.
Develop healthy boundaries.
Facilitate healthy communication among family members
Reduce conflict by developing healthy problem-solving skills
Repair relationship ruptures
Normal is a myth, and perfect families do not exist!
However, it doesn’t mean that yours can’t function in a healthy way.

Understanding Your Anxiety
Tumblr media
Anxiety is a common mental illness that results in extreme feelings of worry, fear, and self-doubt. Anxiety can be caused by a variety of experiences and events in a person’s life; some people may even have a genetic disposition for this condition. Anxiety triggers vary widely from person to person. Therefore, it is important for someone who suffers from anxiety to learn and understand their triggers and how to manage their symptoms.
Mental and physical health go hand in hand. Just as poor mental health can cause physical illness, certain physical illnesses can make a person more susceptible to developing mental illnesses. Anxiety can also be caused by certain medications, caffeine, and a poor diet. Stress is another major cause of anxiety disorders, and this stress can come from any source – work, school, and social or financial problems.
So how do you manage symptoms of anxiety?
Seek the help of a therapist – A therapist can help you get to the root of your anxiety disorder and teach you how to manage your symptoms in a safe and healthy way.
Identify your triggers – By identifying the circumstances that trigger your anxiety, you’ll be able to learn coping strategies for your specific situation.
Stop negative thoughts – This one is easier said than done. Anxiety does cause those who suffer from it to have strong and persistent thoughts of negativity and self-doubt. If you have negative thoughts, you can try simply asking yourself if they’re true. For example, if you think “my friends don’t like me” just stop and ask yourself if that’s true or if you have any evidence to support that because that could just be your anxiety talking. It is also important not to judge your actions too harshly; although judgment is natural, it can be extremely difficult to live your life constantly judging everything you do.
Positive affirmations – It’s essential that you remind yourself that you are more than just your anxiety. Practice saying, “I love and accept myself, and I can do this!”

Depression Therapy In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Do you feel stuck, fatigued, overwhelmed, or numb?
When you have done all the work to recover from depression, how will you live your life differently?
Depression cannot always be linked to any one event; it may be due to finances, an illness, abuse, family relationships, a loss, or abandonment. Many of us are so used to wearing a mask to protect ourselves from judgement that we may not realize that depression is affecting the way we function in relationships, professional settings and our view of self and the world.
The challenge with depression is that if left untreated the sufferer may eventually begin to assume the identity of a depressed being, and may have a difficult time believing that recovery is a possibility. You can overcome depression if you are willing to be curious, open, and do the work with your therapist to explore and address the underlying causes of your suffering.
We have found that depression conceals suppressed emotions, such as: anger, fear or sadness. Your therapist will guide you to examine and eliminate any negative beliefs you may be harboring towards yourself that may be the cause of your depressive symptoms.
It is your birthright to live life your way, and choose how you want it to unfold. It would be an honor for us to support you on your journey to self-discovery, and healing.
If you’re interested in scheduling an appointment or you’d like more information, please contact us.

Suicide is Not For Cowards!
Tumblr media
Last week was National Suicide Prevention Week, and it hit me hard, especially when I was reminded that suicide is the third leading cause of death among children and young adults from ages 10 to 24. I thought about all the people I knew who died by suicide, and even though I didn’t know all of them personally, my heart ached for them and their loved ones. Last week alone, I had four individuals tell me they no longer wanted to live. The belief that courage is unwavering is a lie. Courage is wavering; it requires maintenance and hard work. I often hear others say that individuals who die by suicide are cowards, and I used to get annoyed by such comments; now, I take pride in helping such individuals to examine their perspective about suicide.
So many of us stay silent because we know we would be judged and stigmatized by some of the very people who claim to love us if we shared that our daily existence was a fight to stay alive. Yes, life can get hopeless, overwhelming, and traumatic. I too have been in that place where memories of past trauma and life felt overwhelming. The pain was unbearable, and hope seemed like an unlikely miracle. The best, most rational option at that time was to end the suffering by suicide. I commend those who have never considered suicide as an option, and I beg you, please do not judge, for so many fight day by day, minute by minute to stay afloat.
So many do not have the strength, resources or support needed to help them through the pain. Even with the support, it is still difficult to cope. To those who are strong and have never harbored the thought of death by suicide, treat the rest of us how we want to be treated, without judgment, with respect, without stigma, and with kindness.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please, get help! See a therapist, call now, or contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline-1-800-273-8255!

The Day I lost my 3 a.m. Friend…
Tumblr media
Some days I wake up feeling like I can conquer the world, then fate throws me a curve ball. I often catch it, but sometimes I miss. When I lose, my courage wavers and I begin to feel unworthy, hopeless and anxious. If I consider asking for help I often hesitate because of the fear of being labeled, sermonized, judged or having my feelings minimized.
Although I know things will get better, sometimes, its the last damn thing I want to hear. One day, I built up the courage to ask for help. I picked up the phone, and I called my ‘3am friend.’ He answered, and I said: “If I ever call you and tell you I want to kill myself,” he interrupted and jokingly remarked, “shall I send you a gun?” My mood fell, my heart ached, and I became irate. He apologized profusely, but the damage was done.
Don’t assume that your friends are mature enough to handle your vulnerability. Ensure that the people you identify as your support understand how you want to be treated. Furthermore, evaluate your expectations of your friends to determine whether you have mismanaged them. Lastly explore alternative supports, if you can’t tell the ones you know, tell someone you don’t know. Get support!

Anxiety in Men
Tumblr media
He was sitting behind his desk at work and his chest started to feel like bricks were piling up on top of it; he was sweating, experiencing shortness of breath, and had a headache. Furthermore, he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in weeks. He sat there fearful that he was having a heart attack and was going to die. Only, it wasn’t a heart attack it was anxiety.
Men suffer from anxiety as much as women do, loss of control, stress and major life changes are some reasons that contribute to anxious feelings in men. The pressures of maintaining a ‘macho persona’ make it hard for men to get help or admit that they are struggling with anxiety. Consequently, many suffer in silence. Hiding your anxiety increases your stress and can worsen the symptoms. Impatience, irritability, insomnia, body aches, fatigue, and digestive issues are common symptoms men who struggle with anxiety face. Societal conditioning has contributed to the façade many men maintain that: they are invincible, they don’t need the cajoling that women do, and they don’t need a therapist to tell them what to do.
During a conversation with a young man yesterday he shared with me that he thought he might be struggling with anxiety. He also mentioned that he has been keeping his problems a secret because he is ashamed and didn’t want his friends and coworkers to think he is a ‘wimp.’ In his words, “it’s better to tell people you don’t know.” Unfortunately, sometimes this can be true; the decision to get help is courageous, and it’s liberating, but it may cost you some judgment. What’s ironic is that the same people who judge you for your struggle are typically the same ones to criticize you for not getting help when you fall apart.
So, if you’re not comfortable telling the ones you know, then tell someone you don’t know! Get Help!.

Grief with EMDR Therapy In Oakland Park, FL
Tumblr media
Navigating Grief with EMDR Therapy: A Journey to Healing
I was afraid of attaching to anyone because I didn’t want to make myself vulnerable to the pain of losing them if they died.
It’s hard to focus on hope amidst the waves of sorrow, and the last thing I wanted to hear was that I needed to be strong and I would get through it. Losing a loved one can feel like your world is imploding with a meteor of emotions.
However, if the grief is emotionally and physically overwhelming and preventing you from functioning, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) just might be the guiding light you need to pass through the dark path of grief.
Grieving with Grace
Grief is a natural response to loss and a testament to the legacy of the love shared with those who are no longer physically with us, it’s also an incredibly painful complex individual experience. Five back-to-back losses were way more than I bargained for; I couldn’t seem to get a break from mourning, and grief had become a frequent path of mine. I started to feel like I was stuck in a pit of darkness with no way out. At times, every memory, every thought, and every feeling left me feeling crippled, helpless and fatigued. I couldn’t just get over it, I knew I needed to give myself grace, be patient, and allow my grief the space it needed to unfold.
Finding Light in the Darkness
Amidst the darkness of grief, I decided to practice what I preach, I decided to seek safe non-judgmental support. I did a significant amount of work with myself but felt stuck and needed another professional to support me in processing the unconscious blocks that were still lingering. I opted to do EMDR as I had much success in using it to process grief in the past. EMDR was developed to treat trauma and has shown remarkable results in helping individuals process various forms of emotional distress, including grief.
EMDR consists of bilateral stimulation typically through eye movements, tapping, or sounds, to facilitate the brain’s natural healing process.
My EMDR Experience
Although I was hopeful, I was nervous because I knew that this work would be emotionally taxing. Furthermore, I was starting with a new therapist which means that my nervous system needed to feel safe in his presence even before starting the work. My high tolerance for distress helped me to move through the preliminary prep work into the processing and desensitization phases fairly quickly.
I was guided to recall specific memories associated with my loved ones’ passing while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation. At first, it felt like I was confronting “the boogie man” within me, and it felt like a tornado was erupting all the emotions I had been suppressing inside my gut. Facing my emotions and my unconscious thoughts often left me sobbing. As the sessions progressed, I noticed subtle shifts within me. The feelings of helplessness, guilt, and overwhelming fear of losing loved ones diminished. I was intentional about implementing self-soothing strategies and resting after each EMDR session.
Unpacking Grief
I must say that all the discomfort was worth it because I am worth it, I deserve the peace that allows me to have joy, healthy attachments, and fond memories of my beloveds without distress. EMDR helped me untangle the knots of grief that ensnared my heart. With each session, I found myself gradually releasing distorted beliefs and making peace with the reality of loss.
Memories that once triggered avoidance and overwhelming sadness became bittersweet reminders of the love I held for my dear loved ones. It was as if EMDR gave me a gentle hand to navigate my way out of the pit of darkness I was stuck in.
Embracing Healing and Hope
As I reflect on my journey with EMDR, I feel deep gratitude that I can think of my loved ones without feeling survivor’s guilt, and I can reflect on fond memories without feeling like a tornado is erupting in my gut. The pain of loss will never fully dissipate, however, EMDR has equipped me with the tools to carry it with grace and resilience. As I said in the beginning, I have experienced multiple losses and I am still exploring and processing various aspects that are painful. Each session feels like a stepping stone along my path of healing and is a testament to my resilience.
Your Path to Healing
If you are carrying the weight of grief, have crying spells, or days when you don’t feel like getting out of bed or even doing life, know that you’re not alone. You too deserve support, doing the work is worth it, you are worth it, and you deserve peace. Consider exploring EMDR as a means to navigate your journey through grief and healing.
Give yourself permission to get support, there is a light that awaits beyond the shadows of sorrow. Until next time, focus on what you can do and be kind to yourself because you deserve it!
