I've been thinking about how to say this for a while. None of us want to hear it, but it's true. The friends we've lost since October 7th? The ones who suddenly went mask-off, or started spouting horrible shit without a second thought?
They're dead.
They're dead, and like a parasite emerging from the host, they were killed by the people who were revealed to be within them the whole time.
You're not mourning the loss of a friend who's antisemitic. You're mourning the death of the version of them that wasn't. Because that version? It's dead, and it's not coming back.
Oh, sure, they might grow a brain and/or a conscience, reform themselves, and come back full of apologies. But that won't be the same person. It'll be a person who looks like that person and has many things in common with that person, but is also a reformed antisemite. The version of them that was never an antisemite? Died.
Does this mean you shouldn't forgive them? There's no way I can make that decision for you. There are people I've lost that I would forgive in a heartbeat. (I miss you, M. It was hard to lose you, Ja.) There are people I will never trust again as long as I live. (You deserve nothing more, Ju.) But you need to admit to yourself that the person that you knew, as you knew them, is gone forever.
If it felt like your friend died when they betrayed you? This is why.

So many TV shows/movies depict the Epi Pen as a total solution for anaphylaxis...it's not. The Epi Pen gives you 30 minutes to get to a hospital where they can save your life. TV makes it look like you just have to use the Epi Pen and then the crisis is over. Do people without allergies or a loved one with allergies know that an Epi Pen only buys you time? The more I see this on TV the more I worry...

A reminder that Anti-Israel doesnât mean âPro-Palestinianâ.
The militant faction referenced here is Ansar Allah (aka The Houthi Movement, commonly known as just âthe Houthisâ), a totalitarian theocracy that does not mince words about hating not just Israel, but the Jewish people. Their slogan, which they display as the symbol for their movement, is âGod is the Greatest; Death to America; Death to Israel; A Curse On the Jews; Victory to Islamâ.
Also no, the Houthis didnât risk jack shit for Palestine. Theyâre one in a long line of militant factions who are directly responsible for the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Abandoning their own peopleâs humanitarian needs to wage war isnât a âriskâ for them; itâs standard operating procedure.
The people obscuring this fact to position them as heroes for opposing Israel are engaging in dishonest, manipulative, and immensely antisemitic propaganda. (Also, like, âpuppetsâ? Really? Thatâs not even subtle.) You do not even have to scratch beyond the surface of just âwho is this referencing, and what is their slogan that they plaster everywhere on everything?â to know this. The fact that anyone would fall for it demonstrates gross negligence & a deep & unserious lack of curiosity on their part. Thereâs no excuse.
But what if you did actually spend more than 5 seconds to know more than 2 facts about the government of Yemen? Well, you might find:
There is a long history of antisemitic violence in Yemen. It culminated in 1949, and roughly 47,000 of Yemenâs 50,000+ Jews fled to Israel. A few remained, but the Houthi regime (which formed in the 90âs and is the one that is now attacking Israeli ships) is so openly, explicitly, & genocidally antisemitic that it forced even that remnant to flee.
The last Jew in Yemen, Levi Salem Musa Murhabi, is currently rotting in a Houthi prison where he has been illegally detained & tortured for the last 7+ years. Our last sign of life was in 2022, so we donât actually know if heâs still alive.
The country that tried to murder all their Jews & continues to torture the only one that remains is now attacking the country where all those Jews went, all the while chanting âdeath to Israel, a curse on the Jews.â Do the math. They didnât âshow upâ for Palestinians. They pulled up on Israel because thatâs where all the Jews theyâve been trying to murder for years live.
