Vernal, [probably] the Spring Maiden, and her potential successor

ok so narratively speaking Vernal has major death flags

Cinder is coming for her, and she’s not going to willingly go with the good guys. She can’t disappear and show up later, because then we’d be back to square one. We need Spring for Step 1, which is the Relic of Knowledge.

Besides, if the good guys convince her to come with them, what’s she gonna do? Just hang around and upstage the main characters in every fight? Or are they gonna just hide her somewhere, risk the bad guys finding her again, and again we’re back to square one. Can’t have her incapacitated either, as that’s retreading old ground with Amber.

So there’s two ways this can go; either unlocking the Relic chamber involves relinquishing maiden powers which means Vernal ceases to be a constant target, or she dies and gives the maiden powers to someone else.

Consider the latter; who fits the bill and would benefit from the importance that would bring? Sure, you could say that any of the main four are decent candidates, but they all have their own arcs going on. The only person we haven’t seen with an arc of their own in the main seven is Nora.

Ok so hear me out. The rabbit hole goes deeper:

in the exact same episode Nora mentions she was struck by lighting, Vernal uses a lightning strike as a show of strength. Could be hinting that Nora’s semblance will come in handy against Vernal, maybe a little more than that.

A Nora Barlow Columbine is a flower and flowers are most prominently a symbol of Spring.

The original Spring maiden was shown as being fairly energetic.

Valkyries can be described as maidens who attend to Odin. Taking the Qrow/Raven/Ozpin = Huginn/Muninn/Odin comparison into account, that might be another hint.

Thor was the god of  Thunder, Lighting and Storms, but also Oak Trees and Fertility. The first three are pretty run-of-the-mill Maiden powers it seems, but the latter lean more in the direction of Spring.

So maybe my ideas on why Nora is the ideal recipient for the Spring Maiden powers is maybe a bit weak, but I honestly don’t think Vernal will be a player in the story for very long. Probably not even by Volume 5.
