There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation
because WHAT are people talking about sometimes

btw I'm 100 percent a cDream apologist. His crimes were funny, his shippability is fire, his character design can be so diverse, and I too would hyperfixate on learning the ins and outs of necromancy if given the chance

"Lies to make himself look better" one of c!dreams biggest plot beats is making himself look like a crackhead in front of literally everyone he knows until they decide hes unfit for society and throw him in prison

As long as you're not a cdream apologist/dreblr you're OK in my books i guess /not prev anon
dreblr isn’t some secret evil coven, it’s just a loose collection of c!dream fans with a wide variety of differing (and sometimes contradictory) opinions on the lore.
i’m not a c!dream apologist but i’m def a part of dreblr! tbh it’s been one of the best fandom experiences i’ve ever had. ppl are super welcoming and kind, and there are tons of great writers and artists. i’m happy to be here.

Welp the wiki has failed me yet again, sooo I come to you for lore rescue once more… Do you know what the enchantments are on the shears (is it just unbreaking and what level unbreaking)? Also, we see c!Quackity use an enchanted sword on c!Dream in prison, what are the enchantments on that? I can’t seem to find a place where he opens his inventory to show it.
Sadly I can't find it either 😔. I searched through a bunch of vods but I can't find a single time where they hover over either the shears or the sword. However, the only vaguely useful enchantments you can put on shears are unbreaking, mending, and efficiency—and given the extremes c!Sam goes to where the prison is concerned, I'd say it's not unlikely that these shears would have all three.
An interesting detail I did learn is that the shears in LN1 aren't enchanted. But the shears in LN2 are. And since LN2 is supposed to take place before LN1, that means that there are likely multiple pairs of shears in use, each holding potentially different enchantments.
Anyway, question for the audience!

as a reformed cinniter the thing that really gets me about people refusing to see the nuance in cdream (and cdiscduo) is that cdream not being fundamentally evil is literally the point of the story. the finale did an excellent job of forcing ctommy and by extension the audience who was actually paying attention to reconsider their opinions on cdream, and the ultimate takeaway from the disc arc is a really relevant commentary on refusing to see people who have hurt you as people with feelings and complicated perspectives of their own, and that choosing to respond by escalating and trying to hurt them worse than they hurt you is a completely ineffective way of solving problems. and in ignoring this you end up doing exactly the thing the story is critiquing!!

(that post was so banger it finally made me register an alt) Honestly, you are so correct about L'Manberg
I remember regularly lurking around mcytblr and reading analysis and I think I only saw coherent L'Manberg nationalism analysis from, like, Xephyr and a c!Dream blogger/fan. Which is crazy in retrospect, because the ease with which most of the fandom leaned into fictional country hardcore patriotism was/is kinda insane
And the ensuing anti Doomsday stance -- like we all know that terrorism is bad and shit, but absolute refusal to acknowledge that maybe Doomsday trio and co were not punished by the narrative for having done that was because they were right was. sure something!
omg that's very flattering thank you :D
By Xephyr I assume you mean @considermygenderminecrafted ? Because yes, xe has some of the best L'Manburg critique out there, as well as some of the best c!Wilbur critique, everybody should absolutely check it out immediately (altho frustratingly, I just tried to find some of their posts as an example but Tumblr's search function is still absolute garbage (Xeph, do you have some of your great posts at hand and if so, can you just link some of them in the reblogs or something?))
And yes. There are valid criticisms that can be made of the Doomsday Trio's tactics (which even Techno himself sort of acknowledged later), but at the end of the day, they were on the right side of history
(Well Dream's character less so, but I can't even be bothered to try to analyse him at this point because none of his plans make sense to me)
Also nobody ever seems to acknowledge that Doomsday Trio were acting in self-defence, since L'Manburg had already gone after both Techno and Phil, and was at the time trying to kill Dream as well, although he kinda beat them to the punch (possibly because he already knew they were planning to kill him? idk, I'm not sure if that was ever confirmed or not)
But yeah, the argument about them needing to be punished by the narrative was always absurd to me, and it just betrays the fandom's belief that L'Manburg was supposed to be objectively good, despite all the evidence that it very much was not, not even to its own citizens! And possibly also the unquestioned assumption of "state good, anarchy bad"
Meanwhile the actual narrative repeatedly shows that L'Manburg always ends up becoming toxic, corrupt and ultimately oppressive, even under the Good President, while on the other hand the anarchist commune eventually turns into a sanctuary for all sorts of people who need a safe place to stay (even arguably the aforementioned former Good President when he needs somewhere to hide his son from kidnappers)
And yeah, this is why I did get pretty heated about some of the debates at the time, and I kinda still do, because in the process of assuming that L'Manburg was always the good guys, they ended up repeatedly justifying just absolutely horrific state violence as well as excusing early L'Manburg's xenophobia (as comedic as it initially was), which unfortunately mirrors a lot of real world authoritarianism and xenophobia
To be fair a lot of this was probably also protagonist-centric morality, since most of these people also saw the L'Manburg side as the main characters, but then again what is nationalism if not a form of protagonist-centric morality where you see your own country as the protagonist of the world lol
I might actually need to make a proper post now since multiple people have shown interest, unfortunately I'm also very lazy and kinda made my main points in that low effort post already
Which would mean that it would actually have to be a high effort post to justify its existence

i dont know if this is the time to being it up and do let me know if im being insensitive, but does anyone else feel like the mc community is going to slowly creep towards terfdom. the community is young, impressionable, and largely female. they want so badly to prove themselves as "good people" and the easiest way for them to do that in this community is by vocally supporting victims(but more so denouncing the wrongdoer...)because unfortunately abusers and predators are not uncommon in the cc space. i dont know how to explain it, but with the way they act and speak after every serious allegation, i can see them agreeing and nodding along with terfs before they know it. (i am not talking about george when i say abusers and predators to be clear)
Anon i think you're right because we've already seen it: queerphobic/biphobic rhetoric, puritanistic viewpoints on sex and hookup culture, infantilization of women, the belief that no one can change and grow from their mistakes, etc.
While they are not completely into it yet, people have been tricked into agreeing with some terrible talking points lately in order to prove themselves morally superior in the eyes of twitter

have you ever read a fanfic so good that you wanted to write a fanfic about that fanfic, but was too shy / too intimidated to ask for the author’s permission and too afraid that your writing wouldn’t be half as good as theirs and that it would be an insult to their work that was basically a literal masterpiece, so you just sat there fantasizing about their work and how beautiful it was and how you wished you could just eat it and how you wished canon could write your blorbos half as good as this writer did and how you just wanted to cry because you just loved that fic so much????

FTH 2024 Auction Calendar
We blinked, and it's 2024, and our EIGHTH year of running this auction. 2024 has all the same problems as last year but more — but we also have a lot to be hopeful about, and a lot of good projects worth supporting and fighting for.
You can look at this page (also linked in our header) for the list of this year's supported nonprofit organizations. We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them in the coming weeks. Below is the full calendar for this year's auction.
February 5th: creator signups open
February 12: Fan Craft Bazaar signups open
February 19th: creator signups close
February 29th: browsing period begins, Fan Crafts Bazaar opens
March 5th: bidding opens
March 9th: bidding closes
March 16th: proof of high bid donations due
March 21st: proof of 2nd chance donations due
December 31st: fanworks due
Back in 2021, as we were pulling together the fifth FTH auction, we joked together behind the scenes about how great it felt that the name of our auction was no longer quite as on-the-nose as it had been in our first few years. But it's 2024, and in all likelihood 45 will be back on the ballot: just one of the many sobering and scary things we're facing down this year.
But for the past seven years, we've had the privilege of watching thousands of fans -- yes, literally thousands -- dedicate their time and money and energy to the twin projects of sending support to some amazing organizations while building and strengthening community ties within fandom. Now, more than ever, that kind of community-building is essential.
We hope you'll join us, and join one another, in sending much-needed financial support to these amazing organizations and in putting more joy and beauty out into the world in the form of fanworks. These are dark times, but when we join together we can make them a little brighter.
