POST #2: Standing Vertical Leap Baseline Test
Let’s get this out of the way first - the term “leap” is used very (very, very) loosely in this sense ... It was more of a hop ...
So I trudged down to Compton this morning as the ice, snow and wind had set in prepared to show off my freakish athleticism and to set a baseline for #DunkSZN ... armed with a six-year old pair of running shoes that I’ve worn a total of never, I was ready.
After exchanging “pleasantries” And changing into my kicks - It was time to set the bar ...
T: “take some time to stretch”
Me: “I’m ready, I really don’t do that.”
Moral of the story, I really should have done that.
After setting the baseline of standing trash at 90.5” - yes I have a weirdly long wingspan of +5.5” compared to my height - I was ready ... or so I thought.
Armed with a stomachs full of Martin’s fried chicken and Hoosier Fries and a theater-sized box of Whoppers in my stomach from Thursday’s dinner I went for It ...
... nothing.
Setting the bar at 9 feet ... I whiffed.
Lets be perfectly clear, I’ve never once tried to do a standing vertical hop in my life - but seriously ... It was embarrassing.
... we lowered It ... blah blah blah ... my Standing Vertical Hop is officially 17” (107.5-90.5).
The goal is to gain 3” on the vert over the course of a year so my approach vert can grab rim... the Standing Vert is just something that will be a work in progress.
So in ending. Stretch more. Eat less. Explode with the legs. Then I’ll learn how to jump off two legs...
Monday - Approach Vertical Hop Baseline And Diet plan...
Until then - #DunkSZN

POST #1: Setting the scene for #DunkSZN
Sooo... New Years resolutions are suppose to be something that betters you as a person - losing weight, eating healthier, drinking less, giving back more ... yadda yadda yadda ...
What is mine for the year? Technically drinking less “pop” (i.e. Soda, Coke, Cola) ... but really my goal since childbirth has been to yam one on a regulation basketball hoop.
... AND THIS IS THE YEAR.
So over the next 11.66 months you can follow my journey - (yes, just you, dad - i know you secretly follow my twitter account) - to throwing one down on the court at Purcell Pavilion. I’ll be posting videos of the baseline testing with my #DunkSZN Trainer T-Ro and the hi-jinks that follow.
Until next time ... ✌️
