One thing I like to do for my players when I'm introducing them to a new game is provide them with player-kits, which I create on Google Sheets. I'm sure that others have created player-kits for their own games, but I figured I would show off some of the ones I've used in the past. The Star Wars universe but it has a version of the Rainforest Cafe called the Nebula Cafe and it’s all space themed with space animal animatronics like an exogorth den instead of an alligator pond, and star-locust instead of gorillas and every twenty minutes the entire cafe “jumps to hyperspace” with super loud sound effects and the star diagrams on the ceilings get all blurry like how the Rainforest Cafe has thunderstorms and-

I can understand the sunk cost trepidation in terms of City of Mist though to be fair, 2 books for a full game is easier than alotta other ttrpgs (3 for DnD). I recommend seeing the previews on their website and understanding the free rules available to see if you even want to go down that path.
I have limited experience with Shadowrun but comparing the two editions, 6th Edition seems to have eliminated the majority of the crunch, especially having to track every little modifier. Check out any resources online where the rules can be understood without diving into purchases!!

For Sure!
If you want a narrative heavy game, City of Mists is a ttrpg where you are empowered by gods, monsters or fairy tales in the modern day. It can take on the flavor of being heroic or more magical.
For a bit more Cyberpunk, try Shadowrun. it mixes Cyberpunk, urban fantasy and magic, as well as crime!

Its my opinion that people need to learn more ttrpgs instead of frankensteining DnD to be another game that other talented writers already made.
Its also my opinion that if someone does do that, its kinda elitist to be all up in their faces about it and invalidate their game.
Its confusing.
