so, i have a weird relationship with st. patrick's day.
i have irish heritage on my maternal side, but it's something the last few generations have had no connection to outside of our religion. we don't even celebrate st. patrick's in the stilted and commercialised way that some other irish diaspora do. yeah, it technically celebrates ireland's forced conversion to christianity, but it's uniquely ours, so it's still special. and, over the last few years, i've found myself longing to see a homeland i've never known; one my ancestors were forced out of by famine, war, and genocide.
then i think of palestine. i think of the 30,000 dead since october. i think of the millions forced out of their homes since 1948, and living under the constant threat of bombs today. i think of the images of children cut into ribbons and people grinding animal feed into flour because there is no more food. the way both islamophobia and antisemitism have become more rampant because of an invasion that was never truly about religion. and how, even in this holy month of ramadan, there is no respite from israeli bombs and guns being funded by countries like my own.
i don't really know how to conclude this post - i just wanted to get some feelings out. thanks for reading this far, if you did

I don't think people truly understand the gravity of Rafah being bombed.
There is nowhere left to go.
The lowest cost is $5,000 USD to flee to Egypt. There has been people paying over $10,000 USD.
That is the only option
Pay or die.
Rafah was the only place in Palestine promised not to be bombed. That promise is broken.
1.5 million people have nowhere to go!
