Chapter 4: Coming out of my coma and I’ve been doing just bad
Donnie sleeps for as long as he can tolerate. He doesn’t know how many times he falls asleep, then wakes back up. Sometimes, there would be a little treat or keepsake left for him by a brother, but he kept missing them. The idea of sleeping through one of their visits upsets him terribly. He stashes them under the bed, a little alcove of impotent gestures of love.

“No special abilities, no magic,” Leo says. “None of your tricks, reptile.”
The axolotl blinks, pausing for just a second to say, “You’re a reptile. You’re all reptiles,” before going back to her work.
“We’re amphibians,” Raph sniffles.
“No, I’m the amphibian,” she says.
“I’m a furry,” Splinter says, somehow both miserable and smug, “so you’re wrong. Take that.”
“That’s not what that word means, Dad, I’ve told you so many times,” Leo says, rubbing his temples.
“The word you’re looking for is mammal,” Raph says primly, then shakes his head, dejected. “It’s just not the same when someone other than Donnie says it.”

Chapter 1: Honey, You’ve Got a Big Storm Comin’
Leo feels only the slightest pang of regret when he leaves the screaming crowd of the Battle Nexus behind, because he’s about to gloat to an even better audience: his brothers.
Big Mama’s red portal provides the perfect backlight for the rad pose he strikes (what’s that under his boot?) as he exclaims, “You love us, you missed us, we’re back, baby!” He blinks the glare away, still grinning. Oh, is that Dad he’s standing on? Eh, it’s fine. “Rat Jitsu and Blue saving the--”
“Dad! Leo!”
Leo’s entire body jolts at that tone. His vision adjusts to the rainy alleyway and all of his glee rots in his gut when he sees everyone huddling over a motionless Donnie.
