A conversation that's being going around the House of Aspyce this week has been about the difference between the "Kink Community" and "Kink Fandoms." A lot of people who follow this blog may dream about being taken in by an experienced domme, like Mistress, to be transformed into one of her sissy maids, but they've never tried D/s or even crossdressing before. For anyone like that reading this, we consider you part of the Kink Fandom, and we still appreciate all your support.
I think that a lot of the trouble Mistress has been having with new subs lately has been because we've been mistaking Kink Fandoms for part of the Kink Community. No matter how much the fans may admire our lifestyle, they can't realize what it means to live it without some experience participating in the Kink Community.
Mistress, who has far more patience that I ever will, thinks this is a matter of education. Basic kink skills, like negotiation and knowing what you enjoy, part of the Kink Community, but not the fantasy that the Fandom is interested in. Without being taught the basics, people outside the Community don't even realize how fundamental they are to our lifestyle.
Either way, we're reconsidering how much we should expect from a newbie, no matter how enthusiastic they are.
