Their legs had stopped working long before the end. Their muscles ached, their lungs heaved, their bodies creaked and groaned. Croatia’s players had hit their limits and traveled beyond them, yet again; they had drained themselves of adrenaline; they had passed deep into the red, into the pain.
And still, even as their movements grew stiff and their tendons tight, when they were gasping for breath and it looked as though they could not possibly give any more, they kept going, kept chasing, kept running.
The 15 year old child injured in the Zagreb earthquake has sadly succumbed to her injuries and has passed away.
Her name was Anamarija, she was a bright and cheerful teenager, she was in high school, trained judo, had so much light and so many things she wanted to do in life, but she was taken away from her family and this Earth in a tragedy that I cannot even comprehend.
My deepest condolences to her loved ones.
Please keep them and her in your thoughts.
If you want to join many Croats in remembering and honoring her, please light a candle in her memory. There's a hashtag on Instagram people used for her called #ZaAnamariju, if you wanna leave anything there.
Rest in peace, little angel. You deserved so much better. This should have never happened to you. I'm so sorry.
