davina was dubious of that, to say at the least. an uneasy glance to the now-healing wound had her wincing in sympathy. she knew it was different for them. whereas she had to sit with her wounds and nurse them back to health the true and tried way, theirs healed much faster.
she always thought of that as a long-term disadvantage. maybe it was the way she was brought up; the longer she had to deal with exhaustion, or an actual injury, the longer it would sink in that she couldn't do it again.
if only that lesson would've stuck as an adult. no matter how many times the pint-sized witch went down, she never stayed down. it was a fatal flaw. one she could confidently say she shared with hayley.

davina's very grey morality is not explored nearly enough and it is such a loss. this girl wanted to kill klaus and only cared about unlinking marcel and josh. the rest of the vampires sired to him could eat dust for all she cared. she only unlinked all of them, in the long run, primarily to get what she needed to further her own motives and agenda. it was an added fuck you to klaus, of course, but still. she is absolutely willing to work with people she detests (including klaus himself when asked for help by him and mikael) in order to get what she needs, regardless of the consequences. and the whole issue of the sireline directly contrasts with the fact that she was clearly upset that she accidentally caused a massacre that killed significantly less people. she eventually came to terms with it but it still devastated her. yet and still, before that, she was perfectly fine using hayley's daughter to blackmail her into it. later on, we have her risk her life to warn hayley someone is coming for her heart because they became allies. and again, at a later date? she tells kol to save hayley as to not rob hope of having a mother. in the same vein, when it comes time to kill klaus, she has no misgivings about hope losing her father. davina's morality is very fucking complex and by no means black and white. this is truly only compounded by her age and the circumstances in which she grew up, but it is endlessly fascinating to me.

this isn't the right account for it but i was rewatching the o.riginals and the way that mikael and esther fucked up with every single kid is astounding. freya straight up got snatched and raised under an abuser with full knowledge that her mother knew and contributed to it but her father would never know what happened, finn became a secret keeper and was only truly held in high favor because esther needed him to not say anything to mikael about losing the only sibling he had at that point, elijah was born in a house that was grieving and never seemed too important to either one of his parents (in my opinion, but... still. he doesn't? mikael regards him as his son, sure, but he ultimately would kill him in the pursuit of klaus if it came down to it, and esther used him to be klaus' protector), klaus was magically subdued from his true nature and abused for it (ergo suffering abuse from both his parents no matter how you spin it), kol similarly to elijah seems so fundamentally unimportant (i'd argue he and elijah held the same level of importance but to different parents. elijah was born in a grief period; kol was born after an affair period. mikael trained and honed elijah physically, while esther trained and honed kol with magic but overall their importance relied mostly on their relationships with their siblings and in what ways they could relate to their parents), rebekah seemingly got off easy but it is impossible to say that when she felt it necessary to murder her own father to protect her brother because no one else was doing it. we don't even have time to talk about ansel's inaction towards klaus or dahlia's abuse of freya.

Oh. That's where the familiarity comes from. It's in his face, in his magic, in his blood. She hadn't spent time around him when he was a child, not much, and really, had only seen or heard about him in passing, but she knew who he was.
"You're Kol's nephew." It was easiest to think of him that way. Not as her son, not as one of them, just Kol's nephew. Even though it was her death, something that happened to her, a little guilt seeps into her expression, and she can't imagine how she looks now. Freshly resurrected, guilty and suspicious and a little angry.
"You remember that?" He was only a kid when it happened, and she can't think too much about that because he's clearly not a child anymore. "How long have you been trying to do this?"
Matthias grimaced at the suspicion in her tone, knowing that it was justified. "Because. . . I wasn't strong enough to save you before," he answered softly, guiltily. "That day, when you. . ."
He turned to face her, but kept his head bent down as he spoke, clutching the cup of coffee with both hands in front of him. "I watched my mom drain the magic from you, condemning you to something worse than death. . . I heard you screaming. . ."
Matthias sighed heavily before finally looking at Davina again. "I was just a kid," he said, desperate for her to understand. "I couldn't stop her and Elijah, no matter how badly I wanted to. . . But I could bring you back. I knew that I could do that. I just-- I didn't realize how long it'd take me to be able to do it without killing myself in the process."
