(Apologies for poor picture quality, it’s hard to get good lighting when you can’t use flash)
I know I haven’t been around in a long while.  The end of my pregnancy was difficult and tiring.  At 37 weeks I was admitted to the hospital for gestational hypertension.  My blood pressure was so high they almost had me deliver that day.  Instead, I was in the maternity ward for two weeks until Alfredo was born (via c-section) on October 19th.  We finally got home on the 23rd.
It was an unfortunate first couple of days.  Having surgery absolutely sucks, I was hurting and still itchy from the anesthesia with a catheter and IV bag still attached to me.  I had a lot of help from the nurses and my family on the first day but on the second day, he was kinda yellow so they put him under some UV lights to clear out his bilirubin and no one came to visit and I was stuck having to deal with it all on my own.  It was stressful and scary to see my baby like that.  He had to be naked with only light blocking goggles and a diaper on.  He couldn’t even wear the mittens so he scratched up his whole face.  He didn’t like being exposed and cried the whole time.  Eventually I was given some sunglasses and allowed to hold him under the light.  He was only allowed 30 minutes off of the lights at a time and that was just for feedings.  He didn’t eat much during that time because he was too weak to suck.
Before we left the hospital he had lost 13% of his birth weight.  Since we’ve been home he’s gained 150 grams but he still isn’t back to where he started.  At the hospital I cried the whole time and felt anxious about leaving and being home alone with him.  But being home hasn’t been that bad and I’ve handled it well so far. The nurses scolded me for crying and told me they’d get me a doctor to talk to but no doctor showed up.  They said that it was bad that I was crying and that I had to be strong for the baby.  I just felt so uncomfortable there even after two weeks having to be there with the same nurses.
I’m glad it’s all over and I can just enjoy being a mother now with my son.

I find it weird that y'all didn’t catch up on 17 y/o Jaden Smith dating 21 y/o Sarah Snyder. This skinny white chick has been arrested three to four times mostly for theft, her former classmates call her racist and guess what : she calls jaden “daddy”. she even fucked Ian Connor. Guys, this is as nasty as Kylie and Tyga

The old gods are dead
Zeus sits at the bar, he’ll buy a thousand and one drinks and the girls who he smiles at will raise their eyebrows and think of the pepper spray tucked into their sleeves.
Hera waits at home. She knows the numbers of all the girls and she has their facebooks open on the computer. Her hands hover over the keyboard., She wants to tell them that men will always lie. She wants to take her own advice. She never will.
Apollo and Artemis travel the world. They are chasing the sun. Chasing the moon. They will never catch up. Their hand are curled around each others hip bones. Never in public though. They look too similar for that now. Society has learned judgement and so they keep their caresses safe in the shadows.
Poseidon wanders the shore. He wears a plastic poncho and carries a bag of trash. His tears mix with the salt water. No one can tell the difference. A girl with hair that moves like serpents trails after him, retribution in her eyes.
Hades lies in bed, his wife curled around him. He smiles because people will always believe in death and finally, finally he has beaten his brothers at something.
Athena paces through college campuses, handing out pamphlets on architecture. She scoffs at professors who are simply going through the motions. She carries signs in her hands as she marches through the streets with the students, screaming about the newest problem. She laughs wild, these children, these fearless children are her people.
Hestia wants her family to come home. She waits in the doorway, arms outstretched and a smile like forgiveness waiting to embrace the siblings whom she knows will never return.
Demeter counts down the days until her daughter returns. She smiles when children cheer over the snow days she gives them. There was a time when she had a child like that.
Persephone kisses her husband and grins when people tremble. She is vengeful and wears flowers in her hair and she will make damn sure that the world will never forget her name.
Ares walks through the Middle East, picking his way around the ruins of an elementary school. He stopped understanding war a long time ago. This was not brave, this was not heroic. This was senseless.
Aphrodite narrows her eyes at boys in cars who yell obscene things. She’s long since stopped romanticizing love. She is gaunt and over worked but sometimes she sees a teenage girl handing her baby over to an older couple who had tried for years and she feels young again. Sometimes, she sees Ares from across the room as soldiers embrace their loved ones and they smile at each other.
Hephaestus limps through his shop, his hands are worn down, his back is still twisted but people don’t seem to notice anymore. He makes their furniture, their toys and trinkets and they thank him, they pay him.
Hermes runs through the streets of New York, Tokyo, London. He is young in this time, young and beautiful and slipping between business men, his hands finding their way into their pockets. He never stops laughing.
Dionysus mixes Zeus his drinks. He watches his family grin and cry and get sick in the back room of the bar. He holds back their hair and hands them another drink before they even ask. He’s been here a long time. He’s seen them drunk more often then he’s seen them sober. He is watching them flicker out and fade.
The gods are dying. The gods are dead. The gods are us.
-L.D.

It was in this moment that I envied the victims of 9/11 because they died before this monstrosity came to be.

It’s really depressing how Labor Day has gone from “give laborers a day off” to “give white collar office workers and executives a day off but make retail laborers work so that executives can get a latte on their day off”

.so apparently america needs a crash course on caribbean culture…first they slander rihanna and now nicki… for the record this is not appropriation. this is their culture.
.as a little jamaican girl i find this to be beyond annoying. every time there is some foolishness in the mediaalong the lines of: why is nicki minaj appropriating indian culture…….
.first off there is several things wrong with that statement.
-firstly, why are americans still calling native american people indian.?. india is in india. native americans HAVE names for their nations [not tribles, nations]. Navajo, Black Foot, Cherokee to name a few. fix yourselves.
-secondly native american head dresses are way different than carnival head dresses. also the head dresses are reserved for specific people within their nation for specific purposes. they also have a VERY distinct style to them that are different from carnival head dress.
-thirdly how do you NOT know about carnival.?. the caribbean isnt the only place in the world that there is carnival. carnival happens in several different countries. hell, even in new orleans… in america. but you want to play dumb now because its nicki and rihanna.?.
.we are carrib indian people. caribbean people look like this. caribbean people dress like this. when we have carnival we HAVE carnival. during caribbean carnival everyone is expected to dress the part to participate. people will don themselves in the most elaborate, often handmade costumes. how can you appropriate your own culture people.?. educate yourselves. stop your foolishness.
.but you cannot because you are too busy columbusting cultures and claiming it for yourself, right.?. because you’re edgy, right.?. because marc jacobs created mini buns but not bantu knots. and rows are new, but african hair braiding and cornrows are not.?. and gelled baby hair is new.?. right.?. okay. so we’re ignoring all the white indie coachella attendees, eh.?.
.this is why black people drink tea.

Pregnancy update: 33 weeks and I pee just short of 10,000 times a day.  I can barely make it up the stairs now.  It hurts to sit or lie down so I kinda just hover around trying to get comfortable.

Ok I’m Hispanic and once I went to Tampa, Florida with my family. And we’re from Miami so it’s like heavily populated with Hispanics so we’re not used to a heavy white presence. So one day when we were in Tampa we decide to go to a like breakfast place and every single person was white and you could feel the stares that we got it felt horrible. And then when the waitress came she was like she mistreated us like she brought our food late and she put hot sauce on our table and we were the only one out of the whole thing with hot sauce on our table. She probably thought we were Mexican. Smh

How do white people think we got burnt in “gods oven” when they look like raw chicken. There’s good ass blackened, braised, golden brown perfection that’s tasty as fuck but the only thing no one will eat is raw chicken.

Robert Crumb’s “Heroes Of The Blues” trading cards. It’s called “heroes” of the Blues because they were the God’s who created modern music as we know it.
Someday I will own that R. Johnson card…I need him, Jaybird and Minnie to complete the series.
