Some choice panels from The Gifts of Darkness that I have previously used as the comic update previews. I can just dump some of them here for a low effort post about my comic. Well, the post is low effort. The art -- not exactly.
Looking in the update previews folder I realize, in almost all of them, Val looks sweet and smiling... which is literally his chosen presentation to hide all of his sadness. Oh, the thematic irony.
The plot: At 23 years old, Adrien is quite late to become a sorcerer's apprentice - but that's where his life has led him, and he intends to try his best. He travels far from home and to an isolated tower in the wilderness to meet his new mentor, the sorcerer Valerion. The two strike an important connection: Valerion guides Adrien's chaotic personality with infinite kindness, and Adrien brings companionship and a long-forgotten joy to Valerion's lonely life. Yet, each is holding great secrets from the other, which threaten to destroy all they've built together.
The Gifts of Darkness is my precious webcomic, which I've been making since 2016;
if you like stories that delve within the internal world of the characters;
if you want to read a coming-of-age story about characters who are already adults;
if you like magic that is meaningful to the characters who use it;
if you like stories that will be different the second time you read them;
if you like sexy demons;
if you're queer (if you aren't, you'll be once you've read it);
if you want to read a fiercely earnest indie comic;
if you like watching characters have long delicious meals;
if you like art which is just fucking blow-your-mind gorgeous all the time;
Thank you once again for bringing the little beast to reality. It is a delight to behold.
Let me append here directly the drawing that started it all by @ritabuuk -
I am joyful to have seen this cat beast and joyful to now be able to hold it with my hands. It is silly and perfect. Perfectly silly and sillily perfect.
Sightseer Naomi & Sandslash from Pokémon Masters :D
Amongst Gym Leaders and Elite Fours and Champions and all sorts of very important and powerful people, here you've got a dork on vacation who just brought her pet along... she's an idiot (affectionate).
but with a design intermediate between GSC and HGSS
(longer notes after the cut for whoever is into character design analysis and early 2000s fashion)
fluffy hair from GSC - I took some hints about the shape from HGSS, but keeping it longer. He is after all "the boy with the long red hair"
a version of the suit jacket from HGSS. I think that in GSC he's supposed to be wearing one of those hoodies that everyone had in the early 2000s, with the massive kangaroo front pocket, but mistakes were made and in GSC it was drawn simultaneously as a zipper jacket and a front pocket hoodie.
Anyway, I like that HGSS gave him something that looks a bit like a suit jacket, to visually strengthen his relation to Giovanni
is that button on the shirt in the GSC design the Game Freak logo? :)
pants from the GSC design (the HGSS ones are similar though). I think they might be cargo pants, though without the awesome big pockets?
shoes from the GSC design but a bit more specific. clarified that the heel has the bubble that was all the rage back then and recently came back in style. otherwise kept them velcro and tall-ankle type, which is an unusual combination, but sure, why not? very Dragon Ball inspired.
face closer to the HGSS design. red eyes because why not. I appreciate that HGSS gave him a very distinctive face.
last note touching briefly on something that maybe could become an essay in the future - the more I look at Silver's original GSC design and storyline, the more I wonder if rather than the son of Giovanni, he was at some point meant to be the son of Lance. Red hair, similar outfit design as Gen 1 Lance (black and red with the tall boots), and that would explain why there's that whole scene where Lance tells him something offscreen that we never get to hear but seems to change him forever. Naturally this is definitely no longer a thing if it ever was, but I wonder.
Jaw worm drawing! Jaw worm animation! Jaw worm voice acting! Jaw worm sculpture! I would do anything for jaw worm. I would keep jaw worm as pet if it were real. I love jaw worm so much.
Will have table at convention: Taranto Comix, 11 and 12 May
That's in Italy so, anyone around (southeast) - come see me, I'll have my books and prints and stickers and other nice things. tra cui la mia presenza fisica (hohoho). vedimi e parlami.
Everyone else: you can always see my online shop, which has what I'll be bringing to the con anyway. scared of international shipping costs? stickers have very cheap shipping actually. the oddish pin too
If I make it in time and my budget allows it, I might print some newer art.
