GOOD GOD Bury The Hatchet makes me feel things.

I can't remember who posted the analysis of the standoff (could have been on here or Reddit tbh), pointing out that when Michael shoots at him, he only has one hand on the gun when he usually uses both hands (which is why his aim is so good), so he obviously doesn't really want to shoot him. Trevor only ends up throwing the gun at Michael rather than shooting so again, didn't have the guts. You can hear that both of them are at breaking point (absolutely STELLAR acting by Ned Luke and Steven Ogg).

I think what my problem with the 'bad parent Kristina' trope is, especially in fics, that it basically becomes synonym with evil Kristina which just isn't accurate. She is a bad parent, yes but she isn't this evil witch set on manipulating and destroying her son's life. You can actually be a good person and be a bad parent, those two things are not mutually exclusive. And you can do a shitty job at parenting but still love your child, there can even be affection and good moments, it's just not enough.

Another example is Micke - he's also not actually an abusive asshole but can be really sweet and he obviously loves and cares about his children very much. He wants them in his life and be there for them but that doesn't stop him from having his own problems and letting his kids down. You can love them but still fail your children. And even though you want what's best for them doesn't mean that you can provide it (in Micke's case) or actually act in their best interests (in Kristina's case).

Micke and Kristina are both very good examples on being good people with their own set of baggage who are bad parents that are trying in their own way but in the end simply can't be there for their children the way they should and sadly only hurt them instead of being the emotionally supporting guide they should be.

And it's okay to accept their complexities without erasing either all of their good or their bad qualities.

michael telling trevor that he’s “gotta get out of here” after faking being shot is really fascinating to me bc we don’t even know if this is a genuine, empathetic moment from michael where he slips out of his veneer for just a second and really does hope that trevor makes it out of this alive. or if it’s simply a ploy. something to make him being shot seem more believable. something he’s seen re-enacted in movies before. it could equally be either of these things or even a little bit of both and i love that there’s so much depth just in that one interaction. of course, trevor’s response (“i ain’t gonna leave you mikey!”) needs a lot less analyzing bc we know trevor is loyal to a fault and being genuine when he says this. but i do think it’s interesting to point out that up until this moment only the tactical usage of abbreviations to refer to each other has been employed. trevor uses his actual name (albeit, more of an endearing petname) to reassure michael that he sees him in this moment. and as the game continues we find that michael very rarely calls trevor by his own name. always “t” .. always the running buddy he keeps at arms length because to be called by your name is to be seen and it’s not a risk michael is willing to take

As they work to solve the mystery behind their transformations (while experiencing a few of the more and less favorable parts of being human) and attempt to reverse the matter, they learn a thing or two about what being human means, what it means to love and be loved, and what this might mean for the rest of their lives.
