So the Nine Headed Beast will be a set for season 5! I'm curious, since this implies he will be a big player. Will we get to see the Wansheng dragon family? I am all for more dragons, and evil ones could be interesting. The Wansheng Dragon King was also a friend of DBK in the novel.
Plus, there is the matter of the name... I don't know the language very well, but I have seen Wansheng translated to All Saints or even Halloween which is 万圣节 or Wànshèngjié in Chinese. I don't really know the history of the holiday in China, or why the dragon clan might have that name. If someone who does know wants to explain, i would enjoy it! Until then, i am hoping we get spooky Halloween dragons

Nezha: The Ring of Samadhi should be safe with Chang'e on the moon since it's pretty hard to reach. That should take care of that.

S1 Dragonfruit has such comedic potential with the start of their enemies to romance arc
I’m just imagining Red Son going on about that Dragon Horse Girl who thinks she’s so with her dumb powerful sword and stupid impressive bike she’s so annoying and Princess Iron Fan who has heard it before is just like "..."
Meanwhile Mei is just like “I want to bully him <3” and MK is like “oh boy…” bc he knows what that means

I am very curious about the Wansheng Dragon King and his daughter Princess Wansheng. I have seen it translated as Halloween or All Saints, and I don't know the history of those holidays in China in the 16th century or if the names are connected.
I think Halloween Dragons could be very cool though. More dragons seem fun, and they were villains and friends of DBK if I recall, so that could be interesting.

Welcome to The Journey to the West (西游记) Daily!
You are about to beging a reading journey to get the hidden Buddhist texts accompanied by the monk Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Sha Wujing, Zhu Bajie and Bai Long Ma.
To beging this journey you must subscribe to the newsletter, which you will find at https://journeytothewestdaily.substack.com/. You wil receive your first email this week, welcoming you and sharing information about what's to come and what I will include in the emails.
However, beforehand I want to tell you already that you won't receive a daily email, despite the name of the newsletter. The chapters are dense and full of references to folklore or religion references that you might be unfamiliar with, so you will receive an email every 2 or 3 days maximum.
If this is the first time that you hear about this newsletter and you don't know what Journey to the West is...
The classical Chinese novel Journey to the West is an extended account of the legendary pilgrimage of the Tang dynasty Buddhist monk Xuanzang, who traveled to the "Western Regions" (Central Asia and India) to obtain Buddhist sūtras (sacred texts) and returned after many trials and much suffering. Gautama Buddha gives this task to the monk, whose name in the novel is Tang Sanzang, and provides him with three protectors who agree to help him as an atonement for their sins. These disciples are the Monkey King, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, together with a dragon prince who acts as the monk's steed, a white horse. The group of pilgrims journey towards enlightenment by the power and virtue of cooperation.
The novel is perfect for the epistolary format, since it's is divided in different and disconnected adventures, so you don't have to always remember what happened in the previous chapter to read the next!
We'll be reading Anthony C. Yu's translation since it is the first unabridged version that we have available in English. It is about 100 chapters long.
As I said, you will receive a first email as soon as you subscribe and an introductory email in a few days. Please, share this post so more people can read along. Use the hashtag #jttwdaily if you want to comment your impressions. I'll share the most important dates soon.
May the Buddha help you in your endeavours.

Sun Wukong: This… is my worst birthday ever. Macaque: 'Cause you're trapped under a mountain? Sun Wukong: No, 'cause it's a little humid. YES, 'cause I'm trapped under a mountain!

Master Subodhi: I have not brought you to your master. Although this was the stone from which Sun Wukong once sprung, it appears, over time, it was used to form another. A simple creature with no past, no family, and no name. There is a reason you are at the center of these stories. A reason you can harness the power of the Monkey King himself. MK: So you're telling me I... am... the Monkey King! Master Subodhi: (He bonks MK on the head.) Wrong! Without question, you were not born from the stone as he was. Who or what you are, even I do not know the answer.
I still wonder about these lines from Show Me the Monster. I mean obviously, question number one is 'then where did MK come from?' but also who was the second person formed from the stone? My best guess is Macaque given his whole 'Hot Topic Monkey King knockoff' thing, but who knows.
Also Master Subodhi phrased that confusingly it did seem like he meant the second was MK

Looking at Mei's room, with the band posters, the keyboard, and two guitars... does she play music? I would LOVE to see that in a future season!
