Pearl of the Orient is a work-in-progress interactive fiction currently in its early development stages.
The story follows you, the reader; a government employee, as you navigate yourself through the supernatural world of the Philippines, set in the modern times, and try to solve the mystery of the sudden disappearance of supernatural beings in the city of orient.
basically a story featuring (heavily) romanticized versions of creatures/beings found in philippine mythology. this story features versions of gods, goddesses, deities, and numerous supernatural beings found in the philippines.
trivia: pearl of the orient (seas) is actually a nickname or a sobriquet for the philippines.
genre: mystery, supernatural, romance
rated 17+ for swearing, depictions of blood and violence, mentions of alcohol and substance use, as well as some heavy themes

You are an employee of the Philippine Agency for Supernatural Beings (PASB for short) - a secret agency of the government created to aid and protect the supernatural beings living in the country.
Your job comprises of numerous things, from relocating supernatural beings, helping gods and deities find homes in cities, acting as a diplomat between the supernatural beings and humans, as well as the hunting down of rogue beings who pose a threat not only to other supernatural but also to mortals.
All is well, you’re doing great in your work, humans continue living their lives without knowledge of supernatural beings roaming the streets beside them, and you’ve just relocated a sweet manananggal to a quieter home where she could retire in peace.
Everything is going great.
Until it isn’t.
When news of supernatural beings going missing reach your agency, you are sent to the southern region of the Philippines; Mindanao, in a city called Orient, which is mostly inhabited by supernatural beings as well as small groups of humans who are aware of the presence of supernatural beings.
What should be a quick trip turns into a nightmare when a body is found.
manananggal is a supernatural being, usually a woman, who’s able to half her body, with the torso sprouting bat-wings. manananggal are vampiric creatures active at night.

Elias Ybañez [cis male, he/him] ― the partner. [RO]
28 year old Elias is your partner, assigned to you upon arriving in Orient City. He’s half Kapre [tree giant] and is a local of Orient City.
As proof of his mixed race, Elias is tall, standing at the height of 200cm, with long, black hair he usually keeps in a ponytail. Elias also sports a light stubble he can’t seem to get rid of. Dark brown, almost black eyes usually hidden behind the aviator sunglasses he usually wears. Adding onto the intimidating appearance of Elias, he’s usually dressed in a black shirt, black pants, combat boots and topped by a leather jacket.
Morgana [genderfluid, they/them] ― the hotel owner. [RO]
One of the oldest beings living in Orient City, Morgana is a 350-year old Diwata. Over the years, Morgana has taken on numerous names and appearances. Currently, they appear tall for the average human, with the height of 185cm, with long, straight black hair reaching their lower back. Morgana would be able to successfully pass as a human, if it weren’t for their wrinkle-less skin [even their elbows, knees and face are smooth] giving away their lineage. Morgana does not have any discerning feature that labels them as either male or female.
Leonora Ventura [transgender woman, she/her] ― the babaylan. [RO]
From a young age, Leonora has always been able to see things that cannot be perceived by others. Spirits, ghosts and other supernatural beings were her companions growing up.
Leonora stands at the height of 158cm, with a chubbier build and soft edges. Her curly hair is dyed red and cut short, reaching only the tip of her ears. Leonora wears an assortment of rings on all of her fingers, leather bracelets on both her arms and a leather cord necklace with a pearl pendant. She usually wears off-shoulder blouses and long skirts with strap sandals. She keeps her hair out of her face by wearing a ribbon headband.
Aga Capal [gender selectable, m/f/nb] ― the deity of the sun. [RO]
Aga is the oldest child of Bartholome, and the older sibling of Mayari, the Goddess of the Moon and Tala, the Deity of the Stars. Their original name was Apolaki. Aga is a childhood friend of the MC and followed them to Orient City to keep an eye on them and protect them if needed.
Aga is also the patron deity of warriors. They are tall, standing at 183cm, with a strong, muscular build. Their tanned skin is complemented by their light brown eyes that always seemed to shine when under the sunlight. Their body is littered with tattoos; horizontal lines along their arms and legs. Their dark brown, almost black hair is cut short, in an undercut, with the top portion tied in a bun. Aga doesn’t care much for fashion and their clothes usually consists of a plain t-shirt, black pants and sneakers; comfortable clothes that allows them to move freely.

Bartholome Capal [cis male, he/him] ― bathala: the god of creation.
Bathala, or as he is currently known, Bartholome is the Supreme God of the supernatural beings; the God of Creation. He acts as the leader and representative of the supernatural world and is the governing body who presides over all. He was the one who coordinated with the Philippine government, hundreds of years ago, to create what is now known as the Philippine Agency for Supernatural Beings.
Mayari Capal [cis female, she/her] ― the goddess of the moon.
Mayari is Bartholome’s second child, younger sister of Aga and older sister of Tala. She’s the family’s voice of reason and is often the one who makes sure her siblings do not make a stupid decision. She does, however, loves teasing her older sibling and is considered the true boss of the three.
Tala Capal [nonbinary, they/them] ― the deity of the stars.
Tala is the youngest child of Bartholome’s and is, without a doubt, the troublemaker of the three siblings. Tala has a way with words and knows exactly what to say to get themself out of trouble. Unlike Mayari, Tala does not work for the PABS and instead, is a well-known social media influencer.
Ava [cis female, she/her] ― the child.
Ava is a 10-year old girl currently on the run and hiding. Ava is a member of a supernatural race thought to be a legend.
Karlos Montalban [cis male, he/him] ― PASB’s newly appointed secretary
Karlos is the newly appointed human head of the Philippine Agency for Supernatural Beings. Before becoming the head, he was the assistant to the then secretary. Karlos, before entering the government, was a doctor. A prodigy, Karlos gets promoted to Secretary at only 50 years old.
Thelma [cis female, she/her] ― PASB’s head of the supernatural department, santelmo
Thelma is Karlos’ younger half sibling who also works in PABS as the head of the supernatural department, directly reporting under Bartholome and is MC’s direct superior. Thelma is half-santelmo and has limited control over fire. When in her santelmo form, Thelma’s hair turns into flames and her eyes glow orange while her body loses all features and turns into a being made up of flames.
Emmanuel [cis male, he/him] ― PASB orient branch proxy head, sarimanok
Emmanuel, or Emman, as everyone calls him, is Elias’ close friend who also acts as the proxy head of the Orient branch. A member of the legendary family of Sarimanok, Emman possess near god-like strength as well as instantaneous healing abilities. Elias’ and Emman’s close friendship despite their extremely different personalities is a favorite topic among the employees.

A silver watch on her left wrist, and a golden chain around her neck. Comparing to others ‘rich’, she cares for the others, always donating and helping the community, she is blessed by the gods... And the one you have been tasked to kill.
Her route is a mix of enemies to lovers and friends to lovers.

Your bodyguard, well kind of, he is the one that is tasked to watch over you, in any means, to not let you escape your prison. He has straight black hair that almost reaches his shoulder, many freckles, and piercing black eyes. He is Chinese, has tan skin, and leans in the tall height, around 6'5. He wears a fully black combat suit, wearing short satin gloves. He is cold toward everyone, especially you, yet sarcastic at times, all you know is that he is not human.

Guinevere is a text-based interactive fiction that draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of Arthurian Legends.
You will play as Guinevere and witness the journey toward gaining power and the struggles to keep your reign secure in a kingdom filled with political intrigue and external threats.
In the future, I plan to make Guinevere gender-selectable, and also make Arthur the opposite gender of the MC. However, for the time being, I would like to keep the story as it is until I can better determine the direction in which the narrative is heading.

Michael (Angel) [He/Him]
The first being to come into existence as well as the general of the Paradise Host. His humility and strong sense of justice make him an admirable being, even more so given his significant power. Of course, he also happens to be the man who struck you down out of Paradise. Now that you have been reunited you can’t help but be curious about your former friend despite the deep strain of your relationship.
Uriel (Angel) [She/Her]
The fourth third of the Seraphiam and a former close friend - Uriel is nothing short of a fiery and passionate individual. Her intense, fervent nature is undeniable, making her both a formidable ally and a dangerous enemy. You would know, considering you had bared witness to both sides personally. Mending your relationship with her would be nearly impossible. Even so, you knew that if you could pull it off, it would be undeniably worth it.
Vir (Human ???) [He/Him]
An eccentric and intriguing man that claims to be the “Guardian and Ruler of Limbus”. Vir is an enigma to many, including you. His loud and unstable personality make him difficult to understand, and you can never be sure what Vir’s intentions really are, leaving his true nature a mystery and his presence a source of curiosity and fascination. Although, now that you think about it, he seems awfully familiar…
Lilith (Succubus) [She/Her]
A mysterious and fascinating woman, Lilith is an enigma, captivating all who come into contact with her. Her reputation is not without merit - Lilith’s influence and insight are unparalleled, and her counsel invaluable to you. Taking the time to gain a better understanding of this enigmatic woman, and taking down a few of her walls in the process might be just the thing that unlocks the key to her heart.
Cas Monroe (Human) [Gender Selectable]
One of the two undecided souls, Cas is a ball of pure energy. Despite their situation, they continue to keep their upbeat and bubbly attitude. They have no intention to let their circumstances bring them down, and instead take every opportunity to try and make the best of it. With a never-ending determination, Cas is both a source of inspiration but also annoyance. Their positivity is admirable (if not a bit naïve) , but it also hints at a deeper, hidden side. What secrets are they hiding?
Alex D’Angelo (Human) [Gender Selectable]
The second undecided soul that has been placed in your care. Alex is a lot more reserved and anxious than their counterpart. In fact, calling them a nervous wreck would be an understatement. They seemingly just want to find some inner peace and avoid the inner turmoil they feel inside, desperately seeking a place of solace. "We could still bail on this stupid fucking dance if you want," James grumbles out loud and you roll your eyes at her without bothering to hide your amused smile. She never changes.
"We're not bailing," you say but squeeze her hand gently, trying to reassure her with your touch. You feel bad for her, she's not really one to socialize or mingle in the crowds. Or, you know, good with other people in general.
James lets out another curse word at your declination, but she squeezes your hand back, her calloused thumb swiping across your knuckles. You're glad she's no longer scared to touch you like she was at first, not knowing what was allowed and what was not.
You shiver at the gesture and James shoots you a glance. She smirks but says nothing which makes you clear your tight throat a few times.
"I already promised Mayor Abernathy we would both be there," you say then and James sighs deeply through her nose, making sure you know exactly how much she appreciates it.
You walk for a short while longer while, holding hands the whole way, until you reach the center of Roseborough where the traditional summer dance is always held. It looks beautiful.
You stop James before entering the crowd of happy partiers and turn her towards to you before looking her from head to toe and reaching to fix her crooked blue tie. You do a quick work of it, the motion familiar by now, while James stares at your face with a focused expression, biting her lower lip.
"Okay?" you ask after you're done and pat her chest with both of your palms like you're making sure that she's really there and real.
"Okay," she answers, soft and quiet, lifting her hand to touch you. You can barely feel how her forefinger grazes your cheekbone, but it makes you feel warm all the same.
James sighs. "Let's motherfucking do this."

Note from the author: Hi and welcome! I’m Vilna (she/any). This is my first interactive fiction project that is still very early in developement. I was inspired by various medias, primarily Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, to develope my own little game in novel format written in twine. I hope you enjoy your stay!

THE STORY:
You are a farmer who has very recently become one after your distant grandparents you’ve never met have died and have left their old farm and everything that comes with it solely to you.
You don’t know why they would do such a thing but you have been quite bored of your current life for some time so you decide to take a leap faith and leave the comforts of the city behind to move into the idyllic Emerald Acres for a new beginning. The countryside is certainly breathtakingly beautiful; your new farmhouse comes with a huge garden exceeding all of your expectations and the animals are so cuddly and cute, too!
Unfortunately, you have no idea what you’re doing but it can’t be that hard to run a small farm all by yourself. Can it? Maybe with some help from the other residents of Emerald Acres you may have a better chance at making it…
Fully customizable MC. Decide your character’s name, gender (trans + non-binary inclusive), pronouns, physical appearance, personality & background ++ The only thing that is locked in is that MC will always be queer-coded, no matter how you play them. 🏳️🌈
Name and maintain your farm by taking care of your animals and garden. Do you thrive in your new life as a farmer or do you hate every second of it? Will you settle down permanently or will you return back to the city with your tail between your legs?
Discover family secrets! Apparently the farm and the house come with certain strings attached.
Choose an animal companion who will follow along with you on your adventures.
Explore the Emerald Acres: the village of Roseborough, the Wuthering Woods, Honeyfur river and other surroundings.

You never expected to meet him again here of all places. You’re not sure whether it’s a good or bad thing that he hasn’t changed at all.

The fact that James is hot as hell only slightly makes up for her rude and disagreeable behaviour when you first meet her. She is the town’s only vet so you will need her services from time to time whether you like it or not. James seems to have great love for animals, but claims that fellow humans are not her thing. You don’t quite know what to make of her.

🦋 Juniper Starling [NB], fae/faer. || intro.
Juniper is an eccentric but respected figure in Roseborough as fae runs a small (and free!) healer’s clinic offering help without turning anyone away. Fae must be one of the most beautiful people you’ve ever met and seems to always have a line of suitors following faer wherever fae goes. You need to stick out if you want faer attention.

🥧 Willow / William Higgins [F/M], she/her or he/him. || intro.
Will is almost as new in the town as you; they bought the tavern of Rosebud a few months prior and are still adjusting to their job and everything that comes with it. Will clearly feels out of place and lonely in their current situation, at least before meeting you. They seem friendly, if a little overly flirty, and eager to get to know you.

🔮 Sage Moonfall [NB], he/him and they/them. || intro.
The people of Roseborough call him the Hermit of Wuthering Woods but that seems to be only a fraction of the truth. There’s a rumour that they are over a century old and something not entirely human, but no one has the courage to approach them to actually ask. He seems to be endlessly fascinated by you.
