Hasky
Veiled fortuneteller disguise - Outfit #2
E45 - 1987 - Red Ribbon saga
First episode to come out in 1987. Hasky masquerades as a fortuneteller. We see a lot of these shapes/silhouettes in Dragon Ball - the easiest and quickest that comes to mind is the classic Arabian Bulma. This same vest and shape colour is seen on later characters like Majin Buu and the fusions, who have a similar aesthetic. To note: the painted red nails.
Thus ends the Red Ribbon saga, up next: The General Blue saga.

Yamcha
White top with blue pants - Outfit #3
E44 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
Yamcha kept his hair washed since the tournament, I’m proud of him. I’m sorry for the bullying, Yamcha fans keep this blog around. He does have the same hairband and haircut. Sometimes the top button is undone, sometimes it isn’t.
A point to note: a return of the literal communist pig Oolong. I thought this outfit disappeared after the Emperor Pilaf saga. This is a non-canon arc though, but I’m not sure about the outfits. I will check that. I don’t think the PLA uniform made a comeback in the manga.

Hasky
Bubblegum Mad Max - Outfit #1
E44 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
Hasky is an anime-only character, which makes me want to know her character designer even more - especially since... they definitely saw Mad Max, right.  She’s like a bubblegum Max Rockatansky which really speaks to my Australian soul. Mad Max came out in 1979, so the timeline definitely matches up. What I particularly like is how avian her motorcycle helmet looks. This outfit is laden with details, it’s so good. Even despite the Mad Max inspiration, it’s still very specifically Toriyama - the one cut off pant leg is seen in Bulma’s outfits. The spurs and hair are very Launch, too. Gloves, belts, shoulder pads, bandages, spurs... everything about this is my favourite thing.

Bulma
Pink bandeau and orange shorts - Outfit #11
E44 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
Bulma’s outfits are so classic and stylish they never look dated. Her gloves say “LAST” on the backs. She has a pink backpack for a little while. Whenever I see those hairties, I swear I can hear in my mind the obnoxious clacking noises they would make.

RE: names, localisations, tags, etc.
I suppose it’s time to address an elephant in the room when it comes to Dragon ball and naming convention. This is everyone’s favourite topic, right?
I’ll be using the prefix “Android” on the artificial human characters. I understand there’s a lot of debate about this name, and I understand why, but for cataloguing purposes it’s a lot more simple.
More people check the tags of “Android #__”, basically. I want the views, man! This blog’s a lot of work! It’s also much more simple to type “Android 8″ than “Jinzoningen Hachi-go”. This is going to be the basis for a lot of my tag usage - I use “Son Goku” for Goku, “Krillin” instead of Kuririn, and “Launch” instead of “Lunch” - simply because these names are used most in English-speaking fandom. I use “Muten Roshi” instead of “Master Roshi” though... I think both are used pretty commonly. I don’t know, really. I can change that in the future if it gets to be a problem.

We had to step back in time a moment, since suddenly in #43 he had a new outfit, so here’s 8er retroactively.

So Suno has the ushanka and Goku gets the bearskin. Mystery solved. She has lilac or pastel pink gloves and boots, too.

Son Goku
Suno’s winter coat with ushanka/bearskin - Outfit #6
E35 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
Goku’s gi does nothing for the weather, and Suno lends him her outfit, that we saw in her introduction. I’m quite sure the hat is different - the little brim and chinstrap resembles a royal British guard hat. He sports pink gloves with bright orange pants underneath.
Fellas, this is one of the best Gokus, hands down.

Winter RRA
E34 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
I’m going to start an #et cetera tag, for relatively unimportant details, but I love this specific Red Ribbon Army soldier outfit. I don’t know if it’s the Dragon Ball proportions making them wide and kinda plump that I like, but I really enjoy looking at them. I think the balaclava makes me think of Metal Gear, too. I just love this uniform. I don’t know anything about military dress, so if anyone had specific insight on this subject, please send a message!

I felt a bit iffy about including Suno as a character on this blog, but she makes a few appearances here and there and has different outfits, which is a good enough reason as any.

Launch
Polkadot dream outfit - Outfit #7
E29 - 1986 - Red Ribbon saga
Roshi has a dream about drinking martinis with Launch. The halterneck dress is belted or has a structured waist, with a purple bangle on her arm.

Whoops, I’m a month late from the date I said I’d return back to posting outfits... It was a nice month without many responsibilities, though.
With that said, I’m starting the queue up for season 2. I think it’s a pretty short season on outfits though, but we’ll see what happens.
