I’m thinking today about how there’s a contingent of ex-fundie or exvangelical queer folks who were Really Super Into Church as kids and how that actually makes sense because one of the messages that constantly gets hammered into you is “We, The Church (of which you are a part) are different from The World because we are God’s people, we are the saved, we know the truth, and those heathens out there just don’t understand our special relationship with God. Which is totally their loss.”
And if you’re a kid who already feels inherently different and alienated from the world around you without knowing why? Having trusted adults feed you a ready-made explanation, one that that allows you to see your feelings of being separate and misunderstood as a positive thing, is REALLY powerful.
It’s a common observation in ex-fundie circles that the most devoutly faithful before deconstruction often turn into the angriest atheists afterward, and I always figured it was because those of us who believed the most fervently naturally felt the most let down by it all when we lost our faith.
But I actually think that for some it’s even deeper than that. These churches taught a message that was particularly attractive to those who were already marginalized, suffering, or vulnerable in some way—that we were special, chosen, saved, that our struggles meant something and that we would be rewarded for them in the end.
It’s easier, as an adult with the benefit of hindsight, to see right through that now. But when you’re an unhappy kid being offered a story about your unhappiness where it all turns out all right in the end because the literal creator of the universe has chosen you as one of the favored few who get an eternal happily ever after?
We never stood a chance.

hekate is full of so much love and comfort. she is compassionate and kind. i feel like so many people love to boost her as an edgy dark goddess that they forget about her tender side. the side that shines light for others, and being able to protect them through so much.
she holds a torch with fire; fire that can harm, sure, but fire that can also illuminate and bring warmth. she holds a fire that can be the difference between keeping you alive, or dying a cold, dark, lonely death.
don't forget how powerfully compassionate hekate is.

I was praying to her and talking about how I was dealing with toxic people in my life and how frustrated I was.
Next morning I’m walking to school with one of those toxic people and a literal sparrow shits in her hair.

It’s time to give everyone the image that convinced me Natalie was antler queen before season 2 even began. @laszlo-writes and I jokingly said one night during a theorizing session “wouldn’t it be so fun if Natalie was antler queen??” And we ran with it. In 30 minutes we collected most of the proof we needed and actually convinced ourselves we were correct. And we rewatched season one specifically looking for proof before season two dropped. All of season two was watched with AQ!Nat as our viewing lens, and it paid off.
But this image was the most crucial to me. There were tons of things we pulled from. But this. This was It for me.
Everyone gathered around the fire. Natalie facing the camera, Lottie facing Natalie with her back to the camera, and everyone else facing Natalie and 1/2 to the camera. Lottie positioned as a worshipper - the first - and Natalie center stage, with those who would be her followers around her.
With tree branches shaped like antlers behind her. Not real antlers. The wilderness’s own likeness of antlers. An arguably more powerful image than any of the times real antlers were framing someone’s head.
And this was all I needed. Everything else was icing on the cake, but this was the only piece of evidence I needed to believe it was her all along. The one with the most guilt, because she was the only one that was immune while everyone else risked death.

Hermes is so good. I did a devotional act of taking the bus for him today and there was this very old lady I saw on the bench and I sat down next to her. She asked me for the time and we struck up a conversation and it lasted for almost an hour and ended with us exchanging numbers and she gave me a kiss and a hug goodbye I wanna cry

The way Nat looks when people are slut-shaming her breaks my heart because LOOK AT THE HURT IN HER EYES…
I think everything her dad has said to her is coming up in this moment. That shame and worthlessness is all over her face for a brief moment before it turns to anger. She covers up that hurt and trauma right away and goes on the defense and lashes out because she has never had the safety of being able to show her vulnerability…
STOP SHAMING HER SHE IS TRAUMATIZED AND SHE IS BABY AND SHE NEEDS SOMEONE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS SO MUCH SOFTNESS UNDERNEATH THAT ABRASIVE FRONT SHE PUTS ON

I try to do that!! But it just doesn’t feel as real to me for some reason as giving physical offerings would. Maybe the Gods appreciate my devotional acts, but it’s doesn’t leave ME spiritually fulfilled, if that makes sense.

A little appreciation for the domains of a deity that don't get much attention/recognition. I'm making this because I do think it would be lovely if the aspects mentioned below got more attention, and additions not mentioned are welcome so long as it's an obscure part of them. This was going to be just a few and then I got carried away and did the main Twelve Olympians
A little love for:
Apollon as the God of Foreigners (the Arcadian friendship's harmony with Hermes being the god of travelers/way-god couldn't be any louder)
Aphrodite as a Goddess of the Arts (anything love-themed falls to her by default)
Ares of Civil Order, Defender, and Of Courage
Artemis as the Goddess of Dancing and equal Leader of the Mousai
