To me Wille’s character development this season is just such a good commentary on the environment he grew up in. On monarchies. How could he turn out any different than a mean, sad mess? When he’s never had a choice (he joins the choir because he likes Simon yeah, which is sweet, but also does he even like anything that he wasn’t told he should like)? When he doesn’t even know that he’s privileged (and on one side he’s got Simon telling him that everything is bad, on the other crowds of people telling him everything is good)? When the system is so oppressive that he’s alone at 16, with the responsibility and guilt of making his mom less sick or he’ll have to take her whole ass job. Of course Wille turned out bad. This is what we’ve been seeing for the whole series, that the oppressive systems like the monarchies are bad for everyone, either stuck in it or outside of it. It drives people to destroy everyone else for power (August). It drives people to cover whole ass crimes that their kids are victims of just to keep a fake reputation (the Queen). And now, it drives a grieving, lost and neglected kid to do the same thing to those he loves because that’s all he knows.
And there you’ve got Simon, who’s the first "thing" Wille has ever liked without being told to (he’s a person ofc but you know what I mean) and the first one that Wille probably knows, him always being in the same type of environment. And that doesn’t fit within the system. If he wants to keep Simon, as well as his own mental health and sanity, Wille needs to get out of the system. And I think this was exactly what s3 is trying to tell us. It’s a commentary on what being stuck in that system is. We see it with Felice too, she’s trying to get out of her own system and is making people mad by doing so. They’re all stuck in the system, and some people are happy to stay there (Frederika, Stella, Nils, Vincent…) and others have to fight to get out or they’ll lose themselves. This is exactly what’s happening to Wille, and now that the one thing he has, his relationship with Simon, is going to leave him… I think this will be the wake up call for Wille to realize that he can’t stay in this institution. He has to leave if he wants to be his own person.

it's fucking ball-to-the-walls hilarious to me that the first moment wille fell in love with simon it was simon basically saying "fuck you and your family, you are money sucking leeches and i hate what you do and who you are" and now when simon sincerely goes "yeah i hate the monarchy" wille is like NO WAY ACTUALLY???

I’m like, genuinely so sad about that ending. Why spend so much time gaining the trust of your audience in regards to ensuring that you will treat your characters with love and kindness, only to do such a disservice to so many of them? Why make a show whose entire premise is based on relationships and character development, only to undo so much of it in the last ten minutes? Why start your show with a character being asked to leave by his ex-wife, only to end up ignoring the pleas to stay from someone who loves him? Why establish a home and found family, and a solution to include his son in this new life, just to undo all of it?
Why have your female lead whose journey has been in part about deeply yearning for a meaningful “thunder and lightning” romantic relationship end up with a nameless character with no discernible personality that has 5-10 minutes of screen time in one episode halfway through the last season? Why center season 3 on the development of Jamie and his relationship w Roy only to have them get into a physical fight over a girl, whom neither of them ends up with definitively anyways? Why have him make that gross and mean comment about the leaked video? Why show him building a new friendship w Keely only to reveal that he actually is still trying to fuck her?
I get the idea of Ted being a Mary Poppins, but that doesn’t work so well when many of the characters don’t really get happy endings, and he returns to a life without a majority of the relationships that have been the center of the show being intact. Also, this concept is undermined by the fact that he did not have to leave! Mary Poppins leaves bc she is a magical being and she has to! A completely feasible solution was offered to Ted to stay and he didn’t even consider it. Also, why did he seem so hollow and checked out for so much of the episode? His lack of emotional response to any of his goodbyes felt so strange. Also, he wasn’t even at Beard’s shitty green screen wedding? Also, Beard left Ted to marry his lowkey abusive girlfriend?
And WHY bring Nora Ephron and soulmates into all of it for exactly zero payoff? You don’t get to say “rom-communism” and not have one single well-explored and established romantic journey with a happy ending. The magic of Nora Ephron is that soulmates are real and endings are happy; that when she shows you two people are meant for each other, that is exactly what you can expect to see. So like, literally why bother bringing those concepts into this show and highlighting them so often only to completely abandon them?

between the writers consistently treating every poc character abominably bad, and the kind of exploitative storyline of keeley, and not only excusing but romanticising abusive toxic relationships - I wish a very good fuck you to all the writers that just let that pass by!
james tartt sr is an irredeemable pos who abused his son his entire life and also almost killed beard so actually no i don't think he deserved that 2 second shot in the end. jail!

struck by lighting - I didn’t think s3 could possibly get any worse! But then it did. But then it did.
Roy and Jamie getting into a physical fight right after Jamie says Roy is a healthy older male figure for him
Roy & Jamie both using their sexual experiences with Keeley as a claim to her
Roy & Jamie never apologizing to Keeley or each other
really really weird things to start in your series finale

the way this show treats poc is so genuinely barbaric it’s hilarious because the fact that everything was just brushed over with Sam getting into the Nigeria team- no closure to the Sam and Rebecca story- no him getting together with the chef in his restaurant they had been hinting at all season- terrible
Ok putting it out there before the finale: I really, really hope that there’s going to be some kind of closure with Sam and all the bad things that have happened to him this season and Akufo and his restaurant. It’s the only story thread I’m worried about them not addressing at all :/

not even going to get into how much season 3 but also this finale was a total fucking fuck fire and pissed so thoroughly on everything the show developed for 2 seasons! Absolutely Henry was worth moving for - and I always wanted that to be the arc- Ted essentially getting back with his ex wife with nothing addressed or solved? what the fuck!
idk, something about just having EVERYONE fitting together so perfectly without Ted (Dr. Shannon returning and Keeley finding a project to work with Rebecca on and of course Beard having come back, even Rebecca’s stranger fits back into it!!!! Sam is maybe the ONLY one to leave but for his own DREAM!) … it’s sad. it’s fucking sad. like having everyone be SO together just for Ted to return to his son and the woman who divorced him in part over his optimism… it’s REALLY fucking tragic jesus christ. the way he’s cut himself off from everyone he loves and who loves him except for his son he at most has shared custody of. his relationship with his mom is still iffy. he’s shown entering the same house as Michelle which raises TOO MANY UPSETTING POSSIBILITIES (most pathetic of which is he is staying there till he gets his own place, but nearly tied with the possibility that they’d somehow get back together and he’s back where he started). everyone is so joyfully together and Ted, the person who BROUGHT them together, who helped forge stronger relationships between the team and made Rebecca realize she cares about it doing well… he’s so fucking isolated from their joy. he’s forcibly removed himself. I really don’t think he’s doing well and I really think this is the saddest ending possible. he’s not even shown to be in touch with them in ANY manner and it’s just… has an ending ever been crueller to its main character? I get moving on but moving on to WHAT? it’s not clear how many friends he has in Kansas that he’s eager to get in touch with. what his career prospects are. I appreciate him wanting to be a good dad but Henry alone is not going to cure the ache in his heart and the borderline unaddressed alcoholism. and Ted deserved so much more happiness. he sometimes didn’t feel like the main character of his own show, and I think that’s really reflected in how much respect the story has for him here

not to mention Jamie reuniting with his physically and emotionally abusive dad! what the ever living fuck were they on!!

it is fascinating to me that at the very beginning of this episode they threw in one last inescapable sign of jane's emotional abuse of beard only to end things . . . like that
i would genuinely love to know what on god's green earth and in the year of our lord 2023 was going through these writers' fucking heads

so fucking almost ludicrously stupid to in your finale after building up the entire season that Roy needs to work on himself and Jamie being an improved character (best character of s3 by far in my opinion) have Jamie a) bring up the video in the most disgusting chauvinist manner completely exploiting keeley’s trauma b) what was the fucking point of having either of them have a journey and then fight over it if there was no conclusion + why would u do any of that in ur final season…… there’s no way this is the end dude
I did not like Jamie and Roy being weirdly sexist about Keeley and physically fighting one another over her, only to have no real conclusion to that storyline. First of all, they handled their jealousy over Keeley better in previous seasons when the two of them were rivals and had a lot of growing to do... which makes it seem like they randomly regressed in this episode after they've both matured and become friends. Which is just stupid.
And second of all, the dialogue was so sexist and uncomfortable at times, like Jamie using the video Keeley previously made for him as proof they were meant to be together, when that video is irrelevant to the topic at hand and led to her getting hurt earlier this season (which Jamie is well aware of). It's a gross thing to brag about. Or how Roy thought he had any right to tell Jamie to back off and acted like a one night stand was proof he and Keeley would definitely get back together.
Or how the two guys said they would 'let her' decide which of them she wanted to be with, without an ounce of self awareness about how sexist and presumptuous that was until she kicked them out of her house. But then, that was the end of it. No other conversations or conclusions to that conflict other than some vague background moments with no dialogue that may or may not have been a dream sequence.
What was the point of all the buildup of their intertwined relationships throughout the entire show if the payoff was going to be so... empty and unconcluded?
Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of them should have gotten together this soon, since Roy really needs to work on himself emotionally and Keeley needs to have some time to herself and focus on other areas of her life right now. Jamie is arguably in the best place for a relationship, but wouldn't have a partner ready for him in either (or both) of them right now. And I'm glad at least the stupid fight seemed to spark a realization in Roy that he had more growing to do.
But while I didn't need the three of them to declare their love for each other in the finale, I'm disappointed with the weirdly possessive, jealous behavior from Roy and Jamie as well as the lack of any real resolution, and think all of these characters deserved better after everything they've been through together and the growing they've all done.

not me waiting an entire season for an actual conversation between Nate and Ted so that the show’s complete forgiveness of him could actually be logical and mean something - only for the conversation to consist of one apology with no conversation and accountability- what a shit show

I honestly think they dropped the ball on the ted and nate storyline. ted as a character was fleshed out by not having him be this two-dimensional, always positive person and having one of his pressing issues be him not being able to open up and express his emotions. while it is in character for ted to have already forgiven nate, for the show to wait to the very last episode for them to have a real conversation and for it to not even have ted express how nate had hurt him is a disservice to both characters and their overall arcs

they better have another fucking season of Ted lasso cuz wtf was that ending- zero closure- 1000’s of plot holes- the writing this season was so wack it was insane, sucks that such an amazing show has to end on such a bad note. Genuinely think the only person’s arc I was happy with at the end was Nate and only barely.
