Cryptid of the Day: Ashuaps
Description: Ashuaps is a long neck monster seen in the Ashuapmushuan River in Quebec, Canada. It was first seen in 1978 by Marcel Tardif and his wife. They described it as 50-60ft long, and blackish. That same day, a canoe was overturned by an unknown force, containing a man, his wife and his daughter.

Cryptidcore Starterpack: The Guide
Tumblr media
Notes: I'm gonna be leaning into Cryptozoology with this one, just a heads up :)
Enjoy part two!
I cannot stress this enough, GO OUTSIDE. How are you gonna track cryptids if you don't actively look for them?
Get a binder so you can add pages to your research journal
KEEP TRACK OF LOCAL EVENTS. Cryptid sightings, paranormal sightings, local mysteries, ect.
Find a hagstone near a body of water, it's a stone with a natural hole through it. In Celtic folklore, when you look though the hagstone(also known as a witchstone), you can see fae folk and other worldly entities. (I did not write all the info here, please do research for yourself if you'd like to)
Explore abandoned places and look for clues. Also in forests, but be safe about it.
Also- just going on a flat roof and making blanket forts with the FLUFFIEST blankets with a lantern is just- 🤌🤌
Moths.
Finds some books on this, "The United States of Cryptids- J.W. Ocker", "Cryptozoology A to Z- Loren Coleman" and "Cursed Objects- J.W. Ocker" are some good ones
Maybe find some friends who are into Cryptidcore too
But remember,
Most weird shit happens in Ohio

If Cryptozoology is going to be taken seriously at some point, I propose a set of tenets so as to keep our minds on track. These are my contributions, but if you have an idea, feel free to add your views for discussion.
Tumblr media
The Tenets of an honest Cryptozoologist.
•If you suspect a hoax, disavow it•
It's always safer to distance yourself from something suspect and be proven wrong than to defend something suspect and be proven wrong. Our job, as Cryptozoologists, is to be the keenest skeptics of any evidence presented to us. Only by this strong wall against hoaxers and charlatans can we prove our legitimacy to the Scientific Community at large.
•Be willing to let some things go•
Not all reports are valid and not all Cryptids are real. Always accept that there can in fact be alternate, mundane explanations. First and foremost, we are scientists. We must be willing to separate fantasy from reality. If you cannot find an explanation for an event or entity that is scientifically plausible, then, for now at least, it must be set aside. However...
•Embrace the heart of Scientific Discovery•
The science is never settled. In no field of study, in no branch of science can anyone ever say that "the case is closed." or "we already know everything about [X], so don't bother." At any time something can be discovered that absolutely shatters some fundamental principle of any given science.
•Beat the Decriers at their own game•
Seek out those who besmirch us the loudest and listen to what they have to say. Take the core of their criticism and learn everything there is to know about the subject and their perspective. Conter them, point by point, wherever their comments may be ignoring important details or explanations. Be as pedantic as they are sure of themselves. They may be right on the surface, but be mistaken when scrutinized deeper. [As for those who simply mock us, they aren't worthy of acknowledgement unless they start making waves]
•Specialize or Generalize•
If you wish to study Cryptozoology, either choose a specific subject and study it and all of its tangentially related fields so that you may become an undisputed expert, or learn enough about every single Cryptid, every single Theory, every single report, that you become a walking field guide of Cryptozoological knowledge. If you choose to specialize, pick a specific topic, like Sasquatch, and focus on all the different studies that can help you in your search for answers; Zoology, Biology, Primatology, Antropology, Local Environments and Wildlife, Tracking, etc. These are the mental tools needed to not only get answers, but make them palatable to naysayers.

[I had to start and stop with this so many times. Positively maddening. Please feel free to comment or reblog with additions or critiques that you may have about these points. I'd like to have a genuine discussion or debate so that this list can be refined and expanded upon. Thank you for reading.]
