today my wisdom is: the ecological crisis of our planet is not a thing that will Suddenly destroy us sometime in the next century—it has taken decades of continuous work for our biosphere to be preserved thus far, and it will take decades more of continuous work to continue preserving it.
The apocalypse is not a single event hovering in the future bearing down on us while we sit helplessly. We are at least 150 years into an ongoing "apocalypse."
Things will continue to steadily get worse without steady action, but "augh! it's already too late to stop climate change and mass extinctions!" is specifically the worst response
I miss venting on Tumblr. Here goes:
It's astounding how willful ignorance is a disease that is still with us.
It's in the day-to-day that this is seen. Someone close to me failed to properly recycle what ought to be recycled. But then I was reminded how in my old neighborhood there was no recycling program whatsoever (and I doubt this hasn't changed). It was one of those gated condo communities. The association just didn't care at all about where our plastic goes.
But then we have figures on the Right who are into pushing climate denialism. Or who push for anthropocentrism, forgetting that we are not alone on this floating rock and that we are NOT on the top of the food chain.
It may not be necessary to assume malice when ignorance suffices. Sure. But when ignorance becomes willful it gets closer to malice. With something that incrementally gets worse, like Climate Change, it's easy to see how this ignorant malice, so to speak, becomes blurred when we don't see immediate effects. These same people don't see the dangerous effects of smoking cigarettes within themselves...until they get heart disease or cancer. But the problem with climate change is that it isn't seen in one's lifetime (from the times they've been addressed). Maybe some grandpa in the 1970s didn't have to regard his grandchildren's well-being, but did he even bother to think about his great-great grandchildren? Now if you're cognizant of the IPCC's recent remarks, they're NOT good.
Why should we condemn posterity to Water Wars, Extreme Weather, Ozone depletion, Solar damage, etc.?
its so fucked up that optical discs straight up rot though right? something about digital media just feels like it shouldnt be susceptible like that to the forces that govern the physical world and yet discs rot as if theyre an organic thing
Uhh I saw this on Facebook, and you know what? I’m really sorry everyone. I apologize, especially to the continental philosophers and postmodern theorists.
I didn’t know anyone else knew about how I created Slavoj Zizek. I regret it, of course, but some spells can’t be undone, and hey, his life is better now that he’s not a raccoon.
Once again, I am sorry. It was my first transfiguration, okay?? Mistakes were made.
Don’t use the tarot only because you want to know what will happen next or you might lose sight of what is happening now. Instead, use the tarot to understand why and how. You influence your future through action and attitude, not through cards.
I remember during the election when Biden clearly stated he wanted to "persecute the anarchists" and a handful of libs tried telling us he didn't mean it in an ideological sense, and we were taking it too seriously...
So this is from a recent document released by his admin about their anti-terrorism priorities. Not only listing "anarchists" but those who "oppose all forms of capitalism"
It fucks me up every time. Seeing all these content creators on Tumblr produce the best content ever only to go ghost and have people just reblog from an inactive profile.
I love this platform so much but it sucks that everyone defers to Twitter nowadays.
