HEY FRIENDS!
Over the past few days, Beth and I have been talking about what Crafty-Geeks can do to support Racial Justice in our community, country, and society. One of the things we want to do is donate. Because all the comic cons we normally table at (which are Crafty-Geeks’ main source of income) are cancelled this year, we don’t have the money to donate. What we DO have, however, is inventory.
If you’ve been with us for a while, you might remember that about 5 years ago we made this post calling ourselves out for the lack of diversity in our superhero sewing patterns. With the help of a lot of really gracious, awesome people, we compiled a list of Superheroes of Colour that we wanted to add to our sewing pattern collection. Some of the replies can be found here. And, as a result of everyone’s response, we made our Superheroes of Colour quilt (pictured above) which we have been taking with us to display at comic cons for the past four years.
So, the plan is to sell our Superheroes of Colour quilt (#socquilt) for $600 cdn (plus shipping & handling if you aren't local) so that we can donate all the net proceeds to charity. It only seems right that that particular quilt be donated to the cause. We will also be selling a few pillow covers for $60 each (plus s/h) and donating that money as well.
After a lot of thought and research, we've decided on six non-profits we'd like the proceeds of our quilt and pillow cover sales to go to. I have them listed in the purple image above. You can also click this links here:
www.raricanow.org
www.blackwomeninmotion.org
www.blacklegalactioncentre.ca
www.blacklivesmatter.ca
www.crrf-fcrr.ca
www.cfrac.com
Please contact us over on our Instagram if you would like to purchase this Quilt or any of the pillow covers we will also have available for this cause. If a fully-handmade, one-of-a-kind superhero quilt or pillow cover isn’t your cup of tea or is outside of your budget, please just consider donating what you can to any of the organizations listed above. You can find more resources and places to donate here: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
Thank you for reblogging this post to get the message about our charity quilt out!

So this is Mateo Took, my lovely bard child, drawn by the absolutely incredible @tlouey Please, if you want a character drawn, go to Sara, a wonderful experience and as you can tell, a magnificent outcome. I absolutely adore everything about him, from his sharp & pointy flute, to his brightly colored clothes, and adorably fuzzy feet.

This tutorial video teaches you how to use our sewing patterns which are a slightly altered version of English Paper Piecing.

OH MY GOSH! I only just saw this!!! How awesome. I bet it turned out fantastic.

My friend S used to Roller Derby under the name Carmen Slamdiego… she’s also a teacher, at the elementary school right next door to the STEM High School that had the shooting earlier this week… so I’m making her a pillow to hold onto, to give her strength and support. She has bunnies in her classroom and the kids were very worried about them because they had to leave the buns behind when they were evacuated.
Pattern by @crafty-geeks, fabrics from JoAnn’s, pattern printed at 11x17 at Office Depot. I’m trying to figure out what I’m going to do for a border & backing, but I’ve got to finish this front first.

We’re back home from Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo!  This was our seventh year going and sixth year tabling there. We had an awesome time seeing old friends and making new ones. It was a wonderful time (despite the random freaky blizzard on Saturday night) and our sales were up from last year which was a bonus. We want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came by our table and made our weekend awesome. You guys are awesome. I love love love the JOY that results from the gathering of enthusiastic creative people!

I keep forgetting to post here, I'm so sorry!
We've been busy sewing lots of fun things for the 2020 comic con season! Our resident sewing pattern designer has been churning out a bunch of new patterns lately, too!! There's a few available on our Patreon this month and a bunch going live on our Etsy next weekend!

The My Hero Academia quilt I made for @magnetospurplemanties‘ birthday, from concept to finish!  It’s made from 100% cotton, with tied quilting, and all the appliques were done by hand.  All told, it took me about thirty-five hours from start to finish, and knowing she likes it makes it all worth it.

I just saw an article on how to make "quilts for men" that explains that they must be masculine enough for him, but pretty enough to be in common areas. My solution is way easier: don't bother with the time, effort, or money to make quilts for anyone who's that weird about gendered objects.
If you make a fucking wholeass quilt for someone and they complain, you are legally allowed to kill that person

My latest project is this ridiculously cute bunny pillow 😍 It is so nice to get the opportunity to sew one of our patterns from our woodland series we did up years ago. It also includes a wolf, fox, raccoon, deer… and… I feel like I’m forgetting something 🤔 Anyhow, spoiler alert, our patrons over on Patreon will be receiving this pattern this month.
Note: This is NOT paper piecing that you do via sewing machine. This is English Paper Piecing which you do by hand. ALL our patterns are ENGLISH Paper Piecing patterns which are done by hand, not by sewing machine.
