Tonight I accidentally said "Wufus Rainwright" instead of "Rufus Wainwright," and if Woofus Rainwright isn't the name of a line of rain gear for dogs, it should be.

Juuuust have to add a few more because how could I forget about...
Emmylou backing on Dolly Parton's cover of "You're no good"? (2023)

Or Emmylou Harris own cover of Nanci Griffith's "Love wore a halo (Back before the war)", also 2023!

I know I'm like six months late on Jimmy Buffets latest (and last) album, but if its prove one thing...it's that Emmylou Harris really had a Corona glow-up.
Like listen to those vocals! It sounds *so* smooth... I've long felt like Emmylou really benefitted from the pandemic and has come back sounding better than in a long time.
Another good example of Emmylou slaying post-covid is her doing "Gold watch and chain" with Carlene Carter.

Song Review: Aoife O’Donovan with the National Symphony Orchestra - “Woodstock” (“Next at the Kennedy Center”)
Aoife O’Donovan wasn’t born when Woodstock took place. But that doesn’t prevent her from presenting Joni Mitchell’s ode to the generation-defining music festival with reverence and authenticity.
For her part, Mitchell didn’t attend, and instead wrote “Woodstock” as her contemporaries returned the event. Decades later, O’Donovan sung the song in front of the National Symphony Orchestra during a tribute to Mitchell that aired on PBS’ “Next at the Kennedy Center” program.
Now out as a stand-alone video, O’Donovan’s “Woodstock” is dissimilar to both Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s recordings, featuring a musical arrangement and vocal phrasing unique to this performance.
But rather than messing with a classic, this version enhances it. Obviously a paean to Mitchell, it’s also a showcase for O’Donovan, who, while forging her own path with Crooked Still, as a solo artist and with I’m With Her, carries the undeniable shade of Mitchell in her work.
Grade card: Aoife O’Donovan with the National Symphony Orchestra - “Woodstock” (“Next at the Kennedy Center”) - A

Again I wasn't dreaming Rufus Wainwright did become broke enough during covid to start a pyramide scheme and call participants rufus-retrofettes (???? What? Why?)
Tumblr media
Rufus Wainwright is REALLY organizing a 'club' where fans sell tickets for him in exchange for rewards.
$200 worth of tickets (10 tickets) give a zoom coffee with Rufus.
Whoever sell the most will get one of his washed (unwashed is an option???) Quarantine robes!
I think COVID has pushed Rufus over the age. I mean I love the guy he's great...but this + the 10 hours of therapy on Audible thing is just. Insane.

Other Voices too (a trip back to bountiful) by Nanci Griffith is forever a criminally underrated record, and here is why:
It features more artists of note than most any charity album ever could. Literally. All these artists appear on one record, many on the same songs:
Odette
Ian Tyson
Guy & Susanne Clark
Jean Ritchie
Emmylou Harris (And Meghan Ahern)
Richard Thompson
Lucinda Willams
Rodney Crowell
Gillian Welch
Carolyn Hester
Dolores Keane
Tom Russel
Lyle Lovett
Steve Earle
Harlan Howard
John Prine
Jerry Jeff Walker
Sharon Shannon
And these are just the ones I consider large and well recognized. The record feature at least a doussin more like Rosalie Sorrels, The Kennedys, Julie Gold, Lucy Kaplinsky, Eric Taylor etc. This album is a miracle of artist collaborations and it sounds so great. Just...if you haven't heard it before give it a chance!
