Here is my first finished crochet project: a scarf/shawl.
I improvised on this project rather than following an existing pattern. However, I’ve tried to recreate an approximate pattern of what I did below:
I used a K-sized (6.5mm) crochet hook and Lion Brand Jiffy yarn (100% acrylic, Bulky). Color A was Caffe, B was Denim, and C was Camel; I used one skein of each.
Chain as long as you want the scarf in color A, complete two rows of single crochet.
Switch to color B, complete two rows of single crochet.
Switch to color C, complete two rows of single crochet.
Switch to color A, one row of single crochet. Turn. Double crochet in every other stitch (alternating stitches and skips), make sure to leave the top of each stitch loose. Turn.
Switch to color B, one row of single crochet, making two stitches in each hole made by the previous row’s double crochets. Turn. As before, double crochet in every other stitch, leaving the top loose. Turn.
Switch to color C, one row of single crochet, again making two stitches in each hole. Turn. Complete a row of single crochet.
Using tapestry crochet, stitch two single crochets of color A, two single crochets of color B, then two single crochets of color C, making sure to carry the unused colors in each stitch. Repeat down the length of the row. Turn.
As before, cycle two single crochets each of colors A, B, and C. Depending on the length of your rows, you may need to offset or reverse the color transitions to match with the previous row, as to your preference. Turn.
Switch to color C, two rows of single crochet. Turn.
Switch to color B, double crochet in every other stitch. Turn. Single crochet a row, placing two stitches in each hole as previous.
Repeat previous step with color A.
Complete two rows of single crochet each with colors C, B, and A. Slip stitch in each stitch of the final row.
Turn the work 90 degrees and work a row of single crochet into the side of each stitch using color C, then a row in color B. Repeat for the other end of the scarf.
Secure and weave in all ends.
Enjoy, and let me know if anything is unclear.

I got a Leap Motion
I got a Leap Motion controller today. The Leap Motion is a USB peripheral that tracks hand motion in three dimensions using IR cameras. The API seems data-rich and easy to use, and I’m excited to see what digital art I can create using it.
