Even though Stella had so little of a character already in season 1, they still managed to change it significantly.
Her motivation is taken away from her, which is kind of ALL she had in the first season. It goes from "I was cheated on with an Imp, which is why I hate my husband" to "I've always been evil, and have always hated/abused my husband."
Not only does this change Stella's character (which isn't a whole lot), it also changes Stolas because his actions are tied to her.
Stolas cheating on Stella holds no weight because the show goes "Look! Stella was a bitch from the beginning! So Stolas cheating isn't THAT bad!" Which kinda takes away what made Stolas a complicated character in the first place, and takes away what could've been a complicated character for Stella.
Stolas wants to live a happy life, but this causes him to cheat, which ruins Octavia's homelife in the process.
Stella (from what little we knew about her) is very angry about the affair because it makes her look bad, which causes her to become very vengeful and try to kill Stolas.
Both have reasons for why they are doing these bad things, causing them to look grey rather than black and white.
However, taking Stella's motivation away + making her mean since the beginning of their marriage not only takes away any nuance she could've ALREADY had, but also takes away Stolas's nuance as well.
It makes the cheating look justified since he was stuck in an abusive relationship, making him look like he's done nothing wrong. Every character has a bad and good thing about them, making them a grey character. Stolas cheating was supposed to be the bad thing, but it is swept under the rug now.
Also, complex character ≠ overly tragic backstory. Stella doesn't need a sob story in order to be a well-written character. She just....needs a character in the first place?
Also! The fact that people hate on Stella for her actions, even though some of their favorite characters have done just as bad or arguably worse things is something. Probably because the show picks and chooses whether or not to paint something in a negative light.

Idk how tf majority of the fandom likes Gavin Reed this damn much when he's canonically a robo-racist and an asshole in general.
Like every moment he's on screen he is being robo-racist, saying robo-slurs, being a dick, or abusing connor. How tf are ya'll praising a character like this.
The fandom compares him to Hank so damn much, but he's quite literally nothing like him.
Hank's a grieving man who's blaming androids because one happened to be there when his son died, and the racist world around him fuled that hatred he had.
Gavin doesn't even have a hint of that, and I'd rather the fandom double-down on the fact he's a racist asshole than try to make him sympathetic by rehashing Hanks reasons. Ya'll could still redeem a character like canon Gavin, but it's way harder, so ya don't want to.
But what's really the icing in the cake is the fact people love Gavin, and HATE North.
North has such a great reason for why she hates humans, and it's because she was a SEX SLAVE, but ya'll like to ignore that.
You guys act like she was forcing Markus to go violent when she was just expressing her opinions.
When it comes to the game, it really fumbled the bag with Norths character, as I feel she is underdeveloped. However, since Gavin is a racist pos with 2 seconds in game and people love him, I hardly believe it's because she's underwritten.
I would much rather Leo take Gavins place in the fandom, since he's similar to him (racist, white man, barley any screentime) but is actually sympathetic and is implied he got better. Like that moment when he's visiting his dad's grave and he sees Markus but doesn't say anything to him, or call for authorities? Yeah, Gavin would've tried to kill him on sight with no remorse.
All in all, any other dbh character > gavin reed.

Bru I'm so sick of HB fans saying Stolas is a good father when he's really just not.
Like, yes, the show and its characters say he's trying or that he will be better, but we've only hear it, never see it.
In fact, I'll even go as far as to that BLITZO is a WAY better father than Stolas ever has been shown to be. He's always been there for Loona, and yes, he can be a little overbearing, but he's ultimately very supportive and protective over her.
Stolas in Loo Loo Land dismisses everything Via says, or how she acts, and flirts with the guy that is ruining her life, and doesn't really spend time with her. All until she ends up crying, and Stolas FINALLY notices and apologizes for said behavior.
Okay that would be fine if he didn't DO THIS AGAIN.
In Seeing Stars, he neglects Via's feelings in favor of arguing with Stella, making her feel neglected AGAIN. This causes her to run away, so IMP + Stolas are now looking for her in the human world.
The worst part is, unlike in Loo Loo Land, Stolas barely tries to find Via. He's being there for Blitzo instead of trying to find and be there for HIS DAUGHTER, who he's SO worried about.
Like if you were really worried about her, you would try to find a way out of this place and find her yourself, or try to get Blitzo out of his predicament so you can go find her together. But he just...doesn't do either? So it doesn't really seem like he cares at all.
Via has every right to be mad and stay mad at Stolas. So far, he's broken the promise to be better twice. Just cus Stolas says he'll be better doesn't mean anything if he doesn't actually do better, especially cus the show isn't showing us anything of him bein a good dad.
Also, not Loona tryna relate to Octavia by saying "dads screw up" like, bro? You have a great fuckin dad, and Via has a dad who ruined her life by cheating multiple times and continues to do so and neglects her, ya'll are not the same.

When I was younger I used to have a Little Nightmares oc back when it first came out.
She doesn't have a name that I remember? But she was connected to the DLC, and was the arm poking out of the bag Runaway Kid climbs on.
Tumblr media
But I made up a mechanic for her, since Six was on land, and Runaway Kid was in water, I decided hers should be air. So she had an umbrella, and would fly like Mary Poppins.
That's as far as I went, cus my fandom ocs weren't usually very creative.
ANYWAYS, YKNOW WHAT I SEE IN LITTLE NIGHTMARES 3??????
UMBRELLA MECHANIC!! I'm so fucking hyped bro

I've seen people praise Stolitz for how it's sooo complicated and how they like that it shows gay relationships aren't always sunshine and rainbows, and like sure, they make it "sad" but it's so not written well at all.
Like these two are obviously very toxic for eachother (especially ever since season 2) but the show never really delves into that or even acknowledges it. They shouldn't be together, but the show is pushing for them to be endgame, and you can tell.
Oh, and how bout the fact that they make STOLAS out to be the victim and BLITZO as the manipulator? Like, uh uh, there's no way you just changed everything from the last season to fit this bullshit narrative that Stolas has done NO wrong.
Stolas made Blitzo uncomfortable, and overall feel like he was just there to be some sort of sex toy. But then season 2 was all like "Oh no Stolas was in love the ENTIRE time, and Blitzo was the one using him and he had no clue!!" Bullshit he had no clue, he's the one who made the deal in the first place.
Also I don't really like Blitzo? But I will say that he definitely wasn't the manipulator in the relationship when it comes to Stolitz, and the fact that the writers are trying to pin it on him is such major hogwash.
HB tends to either gloss over or justify something bad that a character did, and you can definitely tell when it comes to Stolas, but he isn't the only one.
If you want "complex" characters, they need to do things wrong and take accountability for what they've done wrong and DO BETTER. So far, everything that Stolas has done wrong has been changed so that it wasn't him doing the wrong thing.
