Dont’ Like, Don’t Read
or DL; DR
You are responsible for curating your own online experience.
If something upsets you, makes you angry or queasy or triggers you, stop reading/looking at it. Avoid things that might make you feel that way.
Learn to use the Sort and Filter function on AO3, especially the Exclude tools.
On social media, block and mute accounts / tags / words when necessary.
If you hated something, you don’t need to tell that to the creator or start pointing fingers at them publicly.
The Back button is free. Use it.
Addendum:
Yes, for this to work, creators need to tag their works accordingly, so that people know what sort of content they are about to engage with and can nope out if necessary.
I will probably make another PSA about the importance of proper tagging later.
Ship And Let Ship

You are allowed to ship whatever you want.
Everyone else is also allowed to ship whatever they want.
You are entitled to dislike or even hate a ship. If you want to do this online, in public, don’t use the ship tags for hate posts.
If you see someone posting about a ship they like and you don’t, there is no need for you to start arguing with them in their replies / comments / QRTs / reblogs. Don’t throw your hate in their face.
Do not harass fan creators or fans for shipping something you disapprove.
All of this also applies to liking / disliking an individual character.

Fang Duobing isn't the most tragic character in Mysterious Lotus Casebook, obviously, however he sure is still tragic.
Like, his childhood and his father and everything is bad enough, but then you have the entirety of MLC basically being:
"I've found a true friend whom I'll be travelling the world with forever!"
"Wait, no, scratch that. I've been drugged and abandoned in a field by said friend."
"Okay, now we're true friends and we'll be travelling the world solving cases together."
"Whoops, no, drugged and abandoned again."
"I swear, this time we'll be true friends and..."
"Fuck, he just told me he just pretended to be my friend and that he actually thinks I'm useless. He got me locked up by my family and everything."
"We're back on that true friends stuff now and..."
"Damn. He's been lying to me all this time about some huge and life changing things."
"So, I saved him and chose him over my lifelong dream even though he's a wanted criminal and might have killed my father. Soulmate shit is back on!"
"Unfortunately, soulmate has actually been dying all this time. Fuck."
"No problem, his old master cured him! Time for lifelong travel together! Everything is fine!"
"He lied again. Still dying."
"We found the flower that will save him! Justice prevails!"
"You'll never guess what happened next..."
And that's just some of the bombshells he has to deal with throughout the show and it's just the Li Lianhua related stuff. Poor boy had his dreams crushed A LOT.

While re-reading TGCF and having a hard time motivating myself to read arc 2...
I think what's hard about reading arcs 2 and 4 for me are that XL isn't matured yet and is thus still very hubric and flawed. And for whatever reason, it's very hard for me to sit and read through this young, spoiled, pure person getting completely shredded apart before he can sift through the mutilated pieces to regain who he is at his core and be able to walk forward with that. It's just painful to watch this person be so young, so untouched by the tragedies of the world, and so sure of himself step onto the pinnacle of the world only have have everything ripped out from under him and have his entire life and everything he knows be eviscerated when he's just trying to do his best. Was he a little too naive and overly sure of himself and thus make very consequential mistakes in his youthful arrogance? Yeah. But he came from a good place and his good intentions got completely warped until they were turned on him.
Idk I'm starting to lose the thread here... But this brings on a different thought...
It's also interesting to note how this parallels with WWX's situation too. Both WWX and XL were extremely talented and very confident and prideful in their abilities. They both set out to try and rectify a situation with good intentions which got warped and those warped intentions and actions were then used to villify them. Both their lives were completely upended. They both died (WWX literally, XL figuratively). They then both reappear more matured and grounded and more than a little traumatized but with more generous and open outlooks on life. I'm just saying... There's a trend here...
But also getting back to my original point... Why is TGCF arcs 2 & 4 so hard for me to get through? 😭
