Prologue

It was extraordinarily bright. It was quite busy and loud too. He had never been to a place this noisy before. So frail, so fragile. He held onto his arm firmly, not too tight or too lose. Just enough to not let himself drown in the crowds. He doesn't like it. They are all looking at him. Staring at him, as if he was a creature that shouldn't exist. He can see one guy pouring a drink for himself at a counter. On top of the counter was a sign decorated in neon lights that hurts his eyes. It spelled "B-A-R". He had no idea what that was.

All of the sudden, he was pulled away. Not too harsh nor too soft. Its just as it is. A pull. He stare at the man in the purple masquerade mask. He wore a fine white suit with a belt with an "X" symbol. He hold onto the man's arm. It appears the man pulled him away from a drunk hobo. The man has a disgusted expression upon seeing the hobo. His eyes averted away from the drunk hobo and to him.

"Where are we?" He finally whispered. It wasn't really a whisper. It was twice loud than a whisper but the man can barely hear him. He didn't immediately answer his question. He drags him around in the crowd for awhile before finally answering. "A banquet." His voice are stern and it was obvious he was quite annoyed. He stayed quiet for a couple minutes until the man expression softens. At this time, they were already out from the crowd. "What's a banquet?" He asked the man again. The man gestures his hand to the hall. "This. A gathering." He tucked his hand into his pocket. He scrambles around for a while before pulling out something shiny. He was intrigued by the object. He always find shiny things intriguing. His eyes widen to take a good look of the object. "What's that?" He points at the object. The man follows his finger and realized he was pointing at his stopwatch. "This is a stopwatch. It helps me to keep track of time." The man didn't glance at him and handed him the stopwatch. He took it in admirable look. "Whoa.." He was awed by the so called stopwatch. The man leaned against a wall with his arms crossed. "Once that long needle hits 9, that's your time to shine, bud." The man says flatly. He looked up at the man. He frowned. "I don't want to..." He bravely spoke up. The man let out a slightly surprised hum. "You know you have to, right?" "But I don't want to..." He lowered the stopwatch. He doesn't know how to reach the stopwatch but the long needle is near the number 9.

The man took his stopwatch away from him and place it back in his pocket. Just like that, the shiny object is gone. The man look around the hall for awhile. His eyes stuck on someone at the corner of the hall. He couldn't see what the man was looking at because he was too short. The man finally turn his attention to him. "If you don't do it, your bone will be broken. Or worse." The man wasn't scolding him. His voice was calm and stern but it still send shivers down his spine. He doesn't like it when that happens. No, he hates the place. He hates everything. He HATES everyone. No, he wants to leave. He wants to be free but the reality is clear. He will never be free.

Info dump again. I kind of lost some of my motivation to turn the CAREFREE story into a comic or animatic. If I did then that would be cool. But if not then I might just leave you guys hanging. It's no one's fault. I just can't focus on one thing at a time that's all. But I might write the story either here or on my Wattpad. Its a pretty short story now that I think about it. I have the rough story of it. I just need to write in a more... creative way I suppose. But yes. I have a problem with focusing. Its just a me thing. Anyway, here's some info dump without anyone asking. Cross was Saber's former trainer. (I like calling him Sabi and so are Killer)

Note for myself: In CAREFREE, everyone has colored eyes including monsters. It is rare for monsters or people to have white eyes. People with white eyes are those who had given up on life or loses a ton of magic. Monsters are made of magic so their eyes are USUALLY the color of their magic. This does not applies to all monsters tho. Before a person eyes turn white, their magic slowly fades away which can be seen on Saber and Ccino because they are depressed. However, Saber has given up on life so his eyes color are more washed away than Ccino. This is also useful to sense whether the enemy magic is getting weaker. But Killer is an exception because his eye sockets are filled with DETERMINATION so you don't really know if his magic is getting weaker. You can see his soul tho.

Ghost in the graveyard au

inspired by this song.

Nightmare is a little ghost that lives in the cemetery just outside of town. tends too stay in the older part which has been basically turned into a forest. he can't leave the cemetery nor can most people see him other than just glimpses out of the corner of their eyes. Enough though that he is a bit of a local legend. since he isn't from this au no one really knows who he is or was. he's haunted the cemetery for several centuries.

eventually Dust ends up finding Him. Dust can see Nightmare easily, he would hang out in the graveyard because it is very quiet and quite peaceful. the forest area is also very pretty.

For Dust it's almost like having his brother back And for nightmare he gets an older brother figure and friend.

The rest of the gang's there too. Killer has his priorities. The gang was each offered this place too live if they promised too try and be better. (also Blue had promised too get supplies to horrortale). So now Horror, Dust, and Killer live in this house in a small (ish) town in an au where monsters where never sent underground and things where pretty peaceful. a regular surface au would still have humans getting used too monsters. And with a group such as the gang that might not end well for either party. they also get therapy so yay :D plus Killer discovers the wonders of mariokart.

I have now realized that Saber acts more like a dog than a cat. XD He's supposed to be more cat-like but sometimes he just follows Killer's orders like "Here, hold this" or "Fetch me a drink" something like that. Man is just done with life and does whatever he was told without a concern of his health. But he is supposed to be more cat-like hence why he hibernate during winters and scratch at trees. His sleeping position is like one of those cinnamon roll cat 😅 Killer oftens comments at how "obedient" his assistant because as far as he's concerned, Saber is a anarchist and doesn't like being ordered around or that's just rumors. We'll never know.

Warning: CAREFREE will not have a happy ending. This story is not for those who want the happily ever after. This story is ruthless and filled with angst so don't expect anything to be wholesome (except the interaction of Kin and Beats because they are like siblings and no one can tear them apart). The whole story is kind of toxic especially Killer because he just wants entertainment and does not care about the people around him. Slayer will most likely kill his own brother, Saber will die early, Ccino might die in a fire, Lust might be poisoned and Brute gets stuck in the woodchipper. Nothing goes right.
