Busy busy busy busy! I've been neglecting Instagram a little. Sorry. Here's a fun view of St Kilda Pier, Melbourne. At the end of it is the famous little penguin colony (the colony is big, it's the penguins that are little, averaging 33cm!). Feeling grateful today for where I've come in life. Things are good although for a long time I didn't always know it. This time of year is always perfect for planning and reflecting, which is silly really because you can do that at any time of year, but I'm properly in that zone at the moment and appreciating it all! Tomorrow I head off to Cornwall, to spend a long weekend in a cabin in the woods. This edit took waaayyy longer than it should have, mainly because I messed up when I took the photo. It was underexposed, I was using the wrong lens for the job, and I think I was so excited about actually being at the Twelve Apostles that I wasn't really thinking about what my vision was for the images I was taking there. Lesson learnt! I'm being much more focussed now when taking photos, thinking not only about the technicalities and the composition, but also about what story I'm trying to tell with it. Today I had a proper photo fail. I decided last-minute to visit a viewpoint nearby, at sunset, to practice my landscape photography. So I grabbed my gear and jumped in the car. It soon became apparent that I had left too late, and was literally chasing the sun as I sped down the road, effing and blinding at the learner drivers and lorries slowing me down. It wasn't a location I know very well, and so when I arrived I didn't quite recognise where to park, or where to go. Cue almost 30 minutes of aimless wandering and more cursing. By the time I found the location I wanted to be at, the sun had set, and because I was still rushing, I slipped and landed in mud, camera and all. Not a single photo was taken. The moral of the story? Proper preparation prevents piss-poor performance! Plan ahead, don't rush, and you're 100% more likely to a) take a photo and b) not end up covered in mud.
