You can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.

You’ll meet her. She’s very pretty, even though sometimes she’s sad for many days at a time. You’ll see, when she smiles, you’ll love her

A lot of universities have student services programs that specifically address these situations. My sibling has struggled with mental and physical health issues for most of his life. He was able to discuss his situation with student services so that accommodations could be made when necessary. Student services would inform his professors (with his permission of course) at the beginning of each semester so they would at least be aware of the situation. It doesn’t mean that you’re being treated differently but if your professors don’t know whats going on, they can’t help you. Professors want you to succeed and they will help you get there in any way that they can.
Design school is stressful for anybody. It has been a battle for me to try and stay motivated and happy. There are days when I cry and want so badly to quit. But I have also learned a lot about myself and the things that I value in life.
If you really value going to design school, you can make it happen. Just remember to keep going to counseling (everybody should be doing that anyway) and if you're on medication, keep taking it unless your doctor tells you otherwise. It is stressful but if you manage your time well (seriously) it doesn’t have to take over your life or your health.
Mental Illness
I’m still a student and I’m wondering in studying such a stressful degree are you supposed to disclose mental illness to your teachers? And even once you’re out of uni future employers?
Does anyone who studies architecture in the same boat as me? Having bipolar disorder and studying architecture? Someone’s bound to be like me? Let me know so I don’t feel so alone.
