Everyone loves dark academia and cottagecore and themes of death and decay and being weird and mysterious until I have stray bones in my house and teeth on my shelf. Then I’m too weird for the weirdos. Too spooky for the so-called goths. You bitches can’t handle my bonus teeth

We need more mad scientists that aren't engineers, chemists, or biologists. Where are the mad linguists learning eldritch tongues? Where are the mad archaeologists digging up ancient objects of power? Where are the mad physicists sending ships into black holes or sticking people in experimental spacecraft to test their theories? Where are the mad computer scientists hacking powerful organizations to spread mind-melting memes...wait, that's just Anonymous. Never mind.
I just think we need more representation of fields of mad science than engineering, chemistry, and biology. Those are all fine and dandy, of course, but the POTENTIAL-

so when a doctor spends 30 minutes performing CPR and revives someone they're "a hero" and it's "a miracle they could come back after being dead that long" but when I spend 6 months synthesising new organs to bring them back after the doctors failed it's "horrifying to witness" and "a crime against nature itself" and "technically graverobbing but none of the laws cover it so we're not entirely sure what to charge you with". Typical

I remember someone saying "mad scientists in fiction aren't scientists because there's never a control group"
I think if you've created an elixir that turns people into goat men you have sort have gone past the need for a control group. The control group is not going to placebo themselves into goat men. You can probably not run the control group, and safely assume that none of them would have turned into goat men. That said, having a control group for that would make the mad scientist seem extra crazy and be really really funny, especially if he was carefully testing them for goat like features from the dyed water they drank instead of the elixir
