"My father is aware that the indiscretion with you was committed by my eldest brother and not me." Aurence spoke out loud while reading the letter the princess had given him.
"Even so, he decided that it is better that everyone keep believing that I am the culprit. I guess I can understand the thought of his grace, better for the third son be a wanted criminal than his heir."
Darletta made no sound, she knew the man wouldn't want to hear her. She had started it all when she, in her panic, had pointed out him as the one responsible.
"I am impressed that they have not decided to hang you for carrying a child in your womb that is not your husband's."
"My father has spoken for me. He requested a royal pardon. In exchange the King of Trenada requested that my marriage with his son to be dissolved and a new betrothal with my younger sister."
"I suppose that the King considers the union between both kingdoms more important than the prestige of his son. Rest, the trip has been long, I'll go talk to the carriage driver." Aurence said walking towards the door and ending the conversation.

The princess consort? Aurence asked himself as immense fury took hold of him.
"Your Highness." The greeting was barely audible thanks to the way the man was clenching his teeth. He did not bow in reverence.
Darletta couldn't hold his gaze.
"I come to request your help, even though I know I do not deserve it."

"Is that a cart?"
Despite the risk of approaching a stranger passing through those lands, Aurence could not pass up the opportunity.
"I didn't think there was anyone in these lands." The man said as he got off the cart. "I've done this trail several times a year for a long time and this is the first time I've seen anyone here."
"I have recently settled here. I didn't think anyone would pass by here either."
"It's a more direct route between Trenada and Vancesco, therefore good for my business. I don't believe in superstitions about these lands. So, do you want to see what I have for trade?"
"I have fruits, vegetables, fish and gems to offer in exchange." Aurence said, seeing that there were many objects that would be of good help to him.
"It's almost a day to Trenada, so fish is out, but show me the rest and we'll see if we can make a good trade."

Aurence discovered that where he had settled was near the sea. Feeling the freshness of water and cleaning off days of dirt felt like heaven.
Although spending several hours under a strong sun had its consequences.
The sea is also a great source of food. The young nobleman assembled a fishing rod with wood and vines found on the ground.

Late that night, when Aurence had thought he would find nothing but that small oasis, he came across a pond surrounded by wild fruits and vegetables.
"These pieces of wood will help me make a bonfire."
The man noticed that lately he had been talking to himself out loud. Maybe more than two days without anyone to talk to was getting to him.
