heerim - fragment #3
"can you.. promise to stay by my side?" the sentence stretches out in the air between them as heejin stumbles through her question.
"i'm not going anywhere. i'm right here."
heejin hesitates.
"i have this feeling that you're going away soon. away from me." the words tumble out of her mouth, and she stands in front of yerim with clenched fists and such sad eyes. her heart aches. she doesn't want to have to look at this side of heejin, who is baring her all with raw and painful honesty. but isn't this what you wanted? needed? to have heejin finally be open with you? says a voice at the back of her head, and she looks down at her hands. shame, embarrassment and affection weigh her down.
"i won't. i'm not going to leave you."
"then promise."
she looks up, and heejin is smiling with all the tender hope that yerim has tried to banish from herself. all of it reflected back on a beautiful girl's face. heejin is holding out her pinky finger, and yerim can't do it.
"a promise can still be broken."
"sometimes, they're only meant to be comforting." and she takes yerim's hand. their pinkies loop around each other. i promise.
"i'll try."
"that's the most i'll ask of you." she says with a small smile, and yerim wants to run away. because she is a coward, and hates that about herself. because she is a coward, and heejin knows it, has seen right through her, but has still asked for a promise.
"i'm sorry." yerim says.
"no need." heejin says, and lets go of her hand.

Hyunjin lives comfortably with her owners, but Heejin is a stray, who at first was pretty mean to Hyunjin. But even then, Hyunjin was very nice to her, going as far as to let Heejin inside when her owners were away.
Gradually Heejin warms up to her, and even expresses affection towards Hyunjin which is mutual.

There's times where Hyunjin simply wanted to be held and it was pretty embarrassing to hang to swallow her pride and find Heejin for those times. But better it be her than anyone else who will actually tease her.
Well not Vivi, but she did still have a playful look in her eyes when they sat beside each other. They had an understanding, and agreement really.
But with Haseul being back, Vivi was already focused on the other woman, basking in their time beside each other.
Hyunjn understood it to a degree. When Heejin was busy filming, Hyunjin found herself missing Heejin's attention even more. Waiting on text updates from the other woman.
Sometimes a selfie of full cheeks while she was on break, and all Hyunjin could think to do is save the photo before mentioning the crumbs on her check.
She nearly walked past Heejin, lost in her thoughts. She was refilling her water bottle, most likely just finishing up her workout. If it was anyone else she would wrinkle her nose in disgust. She didn't really care for sweat, but it was Heejin. They've trained together for so long, she didn't even bat an eye.
"Oh! Hyunjin, are you here to workout with me?" Heejin was always quick to smile on her direction, and Hyunjin couldn't help but bask in it before answering.
"Nope." Hyunjin couldn't help but laugh when Heejin's smile dropped. It was too easy to read Heejin. "Are you busy?" To make up for her blunt answer, Hyunjin extended her hand and Heejin immediately took it.
She spared a glance at Hyunjin before shrugging. "I'm free." She blinked up at Hyunjin when she was suddenly tugged closer, an arm coming to rest around her back. It took a few seconds to process what was going on. "A hug?"
"Mhm." Hyunjin sighed happily. She was grateful for the long shirt Heejin was wearing as she didn't end up with any sweat on her, and she still smelled of her shampoo.
Heejin relaxed against Hyunjin and Hyunjin held her a little tighter. To anyone who stumbled upon the duo hugging outside the practice room, and blocking the water cooler, they probably wouldn't be too surprised to see them there.
Would probably only fuss that they're blocking the way to cool and refreshing water, but besides that. This wasn't anything new what so ever.

Are catgirls likely to overhunt? Should we be concerned that they could be an invasive species with catastrophic consequences for biodiversity?
I hear this sort of question a lot, and the first thing I want to address is that people always conflate feral and domestic catgirls.
A domestic catgirl - if given attention, a proper diet (consisting mostly of poultry and seafood, with only the occasional massive cylindrical hunk of red meat on a cartoon bone), and healthy outlets for her energy (e.g. obstacle courses, magical duels) - will not feel any need to hunt local wildlife. If anything, their hunting instincts are often too dull to survive in the wild.
The real problem is with catgirls who are feral or victims of neglect. These are the ones you typically see hunting birds or shoplifting from convenience stores. These are a very small portion of the overall population, and rarely have an outsized impact on the ecosystem as a whole, but they can still cause significant local changes if ignored. (This is why most wildlife reserves place a heavy emphasis on reporting and capturing non-native felis sapiens.)
If you do see signs of overhunting or feral catgirl colonies in your area, I recommend reaching out to the nearest chapter of the Society for the Protection of Catlike Anthros (or SPCA). They're a reputable organization with an excellent track record of getting catgirls proper meals and loving homes, and they do a huge part when it comes to preventing the spread of disease as well.

i've had people treat me visibly different after hearing my voice or seeing my face as if i'm some sort of predator or interloper. this attitude towards amab trans people especially nonbinary people really paints a picture of what the lgbt community thinks of gender in general

bunny heejin gets adopted by owner haseul and goes to meet her roomate, kitty hyunjin, for the first time. hyunjin is astonished when she lays eyes on heejin, having never seen a bunny hybrid before. she begins to wonder why her ears are so long, and her tail is so small. hyunjin begins to swat at heejins ears making heejin angry, foot beginning to tap on the ground. owner haseul explains to hyunjin that heejin is a bunny and that shes friendly. hyunjin and heejin slowly get used to each others presence.
haseul has had her kitten hybrid hyunjin for just over six months, and while the kitten is quite happy and very much spoiled, haseul can tell she gets lonely during the day while her owner is working.
so she decides to adopt another hybrid, this time a sweet, somewhat shy bunny hybrid named heejin, who curiously peeks her head out of the open car window the whole ride home, nose slightly twitching and her tan ears perked up.
“hyunjinie, we’re home!” haseul calls as she and heejin step inside, heejin peering around wide eyed but not quite ready to explore yet.
the kitten comes padding out from the living room, tail flicking lazily like she just woke up from a nap, yawning as her left ear twitches slightly in an attempt to wake up more.
“hyunjin, this is heejin,” haseul introduces them. “heejin this is my kitty hyunjin. i promise shes nice!”
hyunjin is downright fascinated with heejin, looking her over with an astonished gaze, curious as to why her ears are so long and floppy, why her tail is just this tiny tuft of fur and not long and fuzzy like hyunjin’s own.
she playfully swats at heejin’s right ear, giggling a little until heejin scowls, shaking her head and her food stamping hard on the ground, an instinct of anxiousness.
“hey hey don’t do that,” haseul hisses at the kitten.
“i’m sorry, i’m just curious!” hyunjin blurts out.
“she’s a bunny hybrid,” haseul explains. “you know how we had that little den of bunnies in the backyard?”
hyunjin makes the connection then, nodding as understanding washes over her, feeling bad now she was gawking at heejin like that.
“i didnt mean to make you uncomfortable,” she says with a slight pout.
“it’s okay,” heejin murmurs, clearly just a bit reserved.
it takes her awhile to feel totally comfortable, hyunjin reluctantly giving her her space, but eventually the bunny comes and joins hyunjin on the couch, hesitantly snuggling up to her side.
