I think the reason I respect Borderlands 2 more than any of Bethesda's Fallouts is because BL2 doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is. Fallout 3 and 4 want you to think they're these deep, dramatic, morally complex epics when all you're really doing is running around an open world and shooting stuff with the barest suggestion of a plot. BL2 says "hey, welcome to our open world where you can shoot stuff" and then surprises you by actually having pretty memorable and fun characters and some legitimately funny jokes.

widowtracer has such great chemistry and their stories would complement each other so much!!! I know if they were canon it would be a big thing too like Caitlyn and Vi from lol. I'm sad, years ago they were teased by the writers to have a story together in the future, but I'm afraid that's gone too :((

that's absolutely what this year's big pride event thing is going to be btw (re: pharmercy becoming real) i'm calling it now. like it has to be right. with how much they've been setting it up with mercy's "there's someone else i have my eye on / with any luck you'll find out soon enough" line to bap and pharah being all pine-y about her in her coming out short story. but with the narrative team being laid off it's so up in the air they might've just forgot. which would be incredibly funny

I feel like Blizzard only gave their poster girl (Tracer) an NPC girlfriend named Emily (whose only personality is being her girlfriend) because it's an "easier" rep because they're such cowards. 8 years later they still don't know how to make a decent couple, they still continue with character x NPC shit (like s76 too) while similar games like: Apex, Valorant, League of Legends, ALL have couples between their characters in their games!! It's not 2016 anymore, Overwatch is just falling behind.

yeah this is pretty much my take on it too. i wouldn't really have a problem with tracer/emily if it was, like, Anything At All, if emily was an actual character (not even in the playable hero sense, just that she was a person with thoughts and feelings and aspirations and motivations and not a bedsheet over a coat rack in the vague shape of a human) or if it effected tracer's character in any meaningful way outside of offhand voice lines reminding people that don't read the tie-in stuff that emily exists at all. it's just incredibly disappointing when compared to something like widowtracer which has very clear thematic ties to both characters' narratives and who they are and what they want, and could actually be something that has tangible and interesting effects on the overall story of overwatch

that might be a super shipping goggles thing for me though. overwatch really isn't a game super concerned about the narrative (at least not anymore lol!!!!!!) nearly as much as i personally would prefer as someone who is regrettably incredibly attached to the characters and world and dats fine. i don't think that them not giving me the specific thing that i want is the worst thing in the world, no matter how fitting and satisfying i personally think it would be. but i do definitely think that shunting tracer's (and s76 but DONT GET ME STARTEDDDDDD) love life very conveniently off-screen where it can be easily completely ignored was definitely the "safe" option, considering they did already have hero romances being teased in game (rip gency)

it's not like they aren't/weren't getting a little better about it though. i'm happy bap and weaver get to openly flirt w/ each other and pharmercy is (maybe??) getting tulpa'd into being real so who knows. it's not Specific Thing I Want though so i shall make my tumblr posts about it like the brave shipping warrior i am
