i'm committed to not getting involved in any ship discourse,

but here are a few things i want to point out:

maximus is the main character along with cooper and lucy. his leading role doesn't depend on his romance with lucy. to say that we must ship max with lucy or else we'd be "erasing" him is to reduce maximus to a love interest.

no one says max is boring. people say that max and lucy's romance is bland and not necessarily engaging as a romance. but we don't want an exciting dynamic only for lucy, we want an exciting dynamic for max as well. that is why a lot of people ship max with dane.

max x dane is a great and rare rep, especially in scifi. as an enby myself, i was pleasantly surprised by fallout having an enby character and i hope that dane's role will expand in s2. the show giving the enby character a romantic dynamic with the main would mean a lot to me personally, tbh.

fallout is not a pure morality manual. it's the freaky series for the freaks. if people shipping lucy with the ghoul makes you uncomfortable, then maybe you shouldn't be watching such a show to begin with. there is plenty of puritan-friendly content out there for you.

lastly, this is for the vaultghoul shippers. again, believe me as i'm speaking from my and many others' experience, engaging with the antis is a futile business, you'd be giving them what they want. just block them on sight. don't pay any mind to their bs and just engage with your side of the fandom. that will ensure your experience there being fun and pleasant and also the general/casual fans not finding you annoying.

it's really hilarious to see ppl get mad at lucy x cooper being shipped bc it's "wrong" when lucy literally "fooled around" with her cousin...

and like, even if the show doesn't intend to actually make lucy x the ghoul explore each other's bodies, all those scenes with them were intentionally framed in a way that made their interactions look spicy and racy.

this show is freaky, it is for the freaks and i genuinely can't imagine how are the anti-freaks going to enjoy it at all. go watch bridgerton instead maybe?

as for maximus, his role as a main doesn't depend on whether or not he is lucy's love interest, he is a main in his own right just like lucy and cooper are. also, it's weird that ppl don't see how max x dane could be a great representation, far better than max x lucy.

anyways, here is a word of advice to vaultghoul shippers who might be new to the "controversial" ships:

just ignore the antis. simply block them. there is no point in arguing and reasoning with them. they just want to be the puritan moral police wielding their discourse sword. a shipper's time is better spent engaging with & creating the fancontent instead of explaining their right to ship.

and if I said they simply just need to fuck it out..

"oh my god, lucy....your boyfriend is unconscious?? so he can't come with us on our quest across the wasteland? so it's just going to be the two of us? damn, that sucks. it really, really sucks your boyfriend can't come with us. yeah, we have to leave him here. because he's knocked out. oh well..."

Rewatching the show and Ghoulcy's first meeting is genuinely so funny because my good sis was basically just yapping and Cooper just let her 😭 She's so lucky she had those big bambi eyes to distract him with because otherwise he would've shot her pretty little ass on sight lol.

Okay, is it me or are the bloody fingers/sewing/stiching fingers strangely reminiscent of a red thread of fate??

I wouldn’t be surprised if the people that are upset about Lucy Maclean and Cooper Howard being shipped are those from outside the fandom, and just barely got into Fallout.

They would’ve known by now that shipping ghouls is quite popular. No one in this community really cares about a stupid age gap. Fallout has presented us some freaky stuff over the years. Marry Me FISTO. The most popular fanfics from Fallout 3/4 are with ghouls (John Hancock, Charon, etc). Don’t be discouraged by the popularity of it, just write and draw the ship you want more representation of, and don’t be a dick.

I swear the funniest thing antis will do is say "how can you ship Ghoulcy when he did xyz to her" and then in the next breath will turn and be like "anyways he sees/treats her as a daughter and he's gonna be her father figure." Oh I'm sorry, The Ghoul? You mean the same person you were just saying was so horrible to her? That Ghoul? You're cool with his actions now?

Like the things he did only get brought up when we ship them, as if it's not the same person they champion as her new dad. I understand if personally you don't like it when one half hurts the other in a ship (or when both do), that's completely fair, but I'm pretty sure no likes it either when a parent/parental figure does the same to their (surrogate) child, so like what's the math here 🤨

i think there is something truly refreshing about even the subtle aspects of lucy's character development.

a female character who was indoctrinated to internalize reproduction as her purpose but whose curious heart longed for something else even if she never allowed herself to pay any mind to those cracks in her psyche, mustering up the courage and setting herself free by leaving vault 33 when vault 33 needed its' people to reproduce the most.

consciously, she was going into danger to save her father. but subconsciously, she was motivated by curiosity for a different life and purpose. the whole thing was like a destined excuse for a journey of self-discovery.

she went from probably not realizing herself why she struggled to force a smile when stephanie mentioned motherhood, to being horrified and enraged when she thought vault 4 was using women as the breeding machines, and then she found out that every vault was actually using every women as just that, stripping them off of their bodily autonomy and choice.

i just think there is something liberating about this whole line of character development, even if it's presented in a very subtle way.

can't wait to see how her journey with cooper changes her. tbh, one of the reasons why i like lucy x cooper as a ship is bc lucy won't get pregnant by the ghoul, and it's another reason why their potential romantic dynamic would feel special.
