"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.

how do you say goodbye, you know? it’s not an unfriend and block kind of situation. but you watch the people you once loved go on and have a life and you’re outside of it. and it’s bittersweet because of course it’s okay that you’re both thriving. but she used to be who you’d call if you needed to cry. she used to be who’d you’d be binge watching the new series with. you used to be hers, in a way, even if that way wasn’t permanent. and now she’s someone else and so are you and your friendship is clicking heart shapes next to pictures where she smiles next to people you’ve never met. you know where her birthmark is. she knows where you’ve buried your dead.
the poets and the singers and the authors write about romantic love when it ends. but nobody tells you how to get over a friend.

#i'm pretty sure the last time i cried in an airport was sometime in 2010#Vi had dropped me off three hours early at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus Ohio#because we'd been fighting almost all week - and in fact we had a fight in the car on the way there#and i was sitting in the terminal in a corner crying because i was mad and sad and terrified and sure she never wanted to speak to me again#a very nice old lady gave me a bunch of kleenex and told me that I'd be okay#i think i hated Vi a little bit that day#and we didn't cut our losses for another fucking three or four years because we were both stubborn and self destructive i guess#i do bear no ill will towards John Glenn Columbus International Airport for the record#it's one of my favorite airports to fly in and out of#it's tiny and everyone is so so so nice#it's funny how i have such good memories and terrible memories of Columbus all tangled up in my brain#anyway i love that city a lot and think everyone should visit it <3#the end
