hello would. you like to elaborate on. ford pines osdd. ((because I recently got diagnosed and. blorbo moments. but also because I love the idea in general. ford "I feel like I've lived 50 different lives" pines.))

so, first off, I want to apologize for putting this off for so long. I think it's been a couple of weeks at this point but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, after getting this ask I immediately got really really excited and started outlining what I quickly realized was going to be a monster of an analysis post.

So much so, in fact, that I ended up having to move it all into a google doc. whoops.

As it turns out, this ask ended up being the thing to motivate me to go over a lot of other related thoughts about GF’s writing that I’d had stewing in my brain for ages, so you're getting an essay that you probably didn't sign up for. Again: my bad. I hold the champion's title for being the most long-winded autistic bitch to ever live.

Either way, as you might have guessed, I would love to elaborate on Ford Pines' hypothetical OSDD.

ok, i just came up with a couple of questions

does laurie keep in touch with sam and rudy after graduation or they also go to backupsmore? where did laurie and jocelyn end up after graduating university?

OKAY SOOO!!!

About rudy and sam:

(for context about these goofs, sam LOVES space and astrophysics and all that jazz, while rudy is a MASSIVE comic nerd)

they don't go to backupsmore, but they get accepted into THEIR dream schools! I'm actually thinking MAYBE sam gets accepted into west coast tech? cause like its all science-y and probably has an AMAZING astronomy/astrophysics course? and from there shed become a pretty well known astronomer/astrophysicist (she wrote a few books!!!)

and as for rudy, MAYBE he gets sent to some random college in idaho cause I'm THINKING MAYYBEE his parents are all like "drawing isnt a job! youll get no where in life!!" or something like that, but he SELF-PUBLISHES some comics and someone finds his work, hired him, and gets a job doing something he really enjoys :D

as for if they keep in touch... they tried. rudy and sam kept tabs on eachother during their college years but the three of them kinda just drifted apart, yk? maybe laurie and jocelyn visited idaho during the holidays or smth and they get together with sam and rudy, but probably after that initial year of being apart they just fell out... friendships are like that, sometimes. (laurie, sam, and rudy are all still bffs tho, like theres no hatred between them. They left on good terms, its just their circumstances that were put between them. laurie is super proud of them and how far theyve come, though. maybe laurie sees one of sams books for sale and shes like "wow... im so proud of her" YK???)

AS FOR WHAT LAURIE AND JOCELYN WERE DOING AFTER GRADUATION:

this is like... 1974? (if i have the timeline right) so theyre kinda like "well, what do we do now?" so i like to imagine they travel around a bit. go to different states, sightsee, stuff like that. they spent a few years in canada, probably something like 8 years? (timelines still fucky, plus im still not 100% sure on lore. its all a wip) but then around mid/late 1985, theyre on their way back from somewhere (canada makes the most sense atm) and they get LOST.

but where do they end up?

gravity falls.

Weeping in my hands ALL I HAVE IS ANGST ON MY BRAIN WAAGH,,,

RAMBLE WITH DOODLES BELOW WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So I finally wrapped my head around what exactly happens before Ford comes back, and basically..BILL TRICKS AND POSSESSES HER! But if we wanna know that, we gotta know WHAT HAPPENED DAWG.

So Phoebe left Fords life because she thought he was going insane over his research. To a degree where it was scaring her. What she DOSENT KNOW, is that it was actually Bill pretending to BE Ford to solely scare her off. And Ford KNEW this! Bill had buttered him up so much, that he was on board with the idea of letting Phoebe down just to focus more on his life’s work. And after everything that happened with that, oh man did he regret it.

So what does Bill do?

He tries to yank her arm off while on a “date” with her As Ford, resulting her to slap him in the face and run off.

NOTE: she has NO IDEA who Bill is btw. She thinks this is ALL FORD.

NOW GETTING CLOSER TO THE PRESENT (ISH):

Bill uses Phoebe to attempt to get his hands on the rift (obviously that backfires) but MAN he nearly has everyone fooled except for Ford. She only trusted bill because she was starting to lose hope in Stan on getting Ford back with the portal. Overthinking that the portal wasn’t going to work, or something would go wrong, while also obsessing over her own research to try and figure out SOME way to get to him. Bill saw that vulnerability and used it as an advantage…

So when she regains control of herself ((maybe they have to go into her mind to free her, kinda like how the kids went into Stan’s mind to get Bill outta there SIMILAR TO THAT BUT A LITTLE MORE ELABORATE BARE WITH ME-)

THATS when she sees Ford for the first time in 30 years. She doesn’t even know how to react. She just. She puts her hands on either side of his face in disbelief and starts BAWLING. The realization that he’s finally back, and the fact that Bill was the sole reason she walked out of his life in the first place. She feels at fault.
