the harringtons not being part of the stranger things play drives me insane bc like... the Wheelers were destined to always be a part of this shit. Bob was destined to always be a part of this shit. Eddie was destined to always be a part of this shit.
But Steve? Steve chose it. He chose to always take the hardest hits, chose to always throw himself into the war with everything he had. His parents were never touched by the darkness of Hawkins. He was never the target of some great and terrible evil. He just loved the people around him so hard that he found himself in the center of it all.

Steve starts spending a lot of time at the Munson trailer after the world almost ends (again). He doesn't say it but both Eddie and Wayne can see how much he loves their little place. Can see it in the way he seems to relax as soon as he steps inside, like being there lifts an invisible weight off his shoulder. Can see it in the way he behaves more childish, like being there makes him feel safe enough to be a kid again.
It makes Wayne feel that overwhelming protectiveness that he hasn't felt since Eddie first came to his trailer sporting a black eye and years of internalized homophobia. He knows his boy is good, yet he still feels the need to sit Eddie down. He feels the need to make sure Eddie understands just how much Steve needs them. He makes sure that Eddie understands that, even if Steve does something to upset Eddie, Wayne is still going to invite him over.
And Wayne is smart. He can see that Eddie loves Steve, in such an intense way that Wayne knows he'll never truly understand. But he does understand the way Steve looks back at Eddie, understands that he feels the same and just as strong.
"Harrington," Wayne calls one day.
Steve pauses on his way out, turning to raise a brow with a hesitant smile.
"You make sure Eddie takes good care of you, ya hear? Shovel talk should be the other way, I know, but I see how you look at my boy. You're good for him."
Steve stares for a moment. He tries to respond, stumbling over so many words that he ends up stuttering out noises. He turns his head away, gritting his teeth.
"You don't need to panic, son. I've known 'bout Eds a while now. Ain't nothing wrong with it. You love him as much as he loves you, I can see it plain as day. That's all that I need to know. You deserve each other."
But, instead of reacting well or happy like Wayne expected, Steve starts crying.
Wayne quickly steps forward, wrapping his arms around him. "Hey, hey, c'mon now, it's all alright. You're alright."
They stand like that for a good few minutes. It breaks Wayne's heart. He spends most of the time wondering what it is he said that was wrong, what he did to trigger such a strong reaction.
"Sorry," Steve mumbles as he finally pulls back.
"Ain't nothing to be sorry for."
Steve's face scrunches up again, like he's about to start crying again. He barely holds himself together.
"You gonna tell me what's wrong?" Wayne keeps his voice soft. Puts a gentle hand on the boy's shoulder.
"I don't... No. It's- it's nothing, really."
"You sure? You won't get no judgement here. It's ok if you don't wanna talk though."
"I don't deserve it," Steve blurts after a long pause. He quickly slaps a hand over his own mouth, looking horrified at himself.
"Don't deserve what?"
The sad eyes he sports could put Eddies to shame. And Wayne knows first hand just how well Eddie can use those big doe-eyes of his to get what he wants.
"I was so mean to him, back in high school. I was an asshole and he just... he doesn't seem to care, like, at all. He won't let me apologize. He's just forgiven me and I haven't... he still cares about me and I haven't done anything to deserve it!"
Wayne has to take a moment, has to take a deep breath, and count to ten.
He doesn't know much about the Harringtons but he does know some of the rumours. Knows that they're supposed to be unusually cold, distant, self-absorbed. Knows that Mr Harrington is usually eyeing the underage secretary and Mrs Harrington is too busy stalking after him to notice the son she leaves behind.
He had hoped, probably stupidly, that Steve had somehow been cared for. Rich families like that can afford nannies. They can afford expensive babysitters. They can afford to pay someone to give him the attention every kid needs.
Apparently, it's worse than he ever could've thought.
"Steve, love isn't something you earn. It's given. It's not up to you whether you deserve it or not. Everyone deserves love, even the worst of us. You definitely ain't that."
"But I was so mean. Do I- what do I do?"
"You make sure that love isn't given in vain. You make sure Eddie knows you care about him too, make sure he knows that you appreciate it." Wayne gently ruffles his hair, nearly laughing at how offended he looks as he tries to fix it. "You're a good kid. You do deserve this. You deserve Eddie."
Steves smile isn't much bigger, still soft and small, but it's more genuine. "Thanks Wayne. I, uh... thank you."
He glances towards the door.
"Yeah, yeah. Scram, go on."
Steve laughs, but does scurry out. Glances back to give a little wave as he closes the door behind him.
It looks forced, the joy. Just a little. But that's fine. Eddie was just as challenging when he first came to Wayne's. It took years to convince him that he really is safe with Wayne, that he is loved. It had taken a while but Wayne had gotten through to him in the end.
He can do the same with Steve. He will. He's never backed down from a challenge. This is one he will happily take on, no matter how long it takes.
He will make Steve understand that he is deserving of the love people have for him. No matter how long it takes. Wayne knows it will be worth it in the end.

Steve having Migraines and Eddie noticing (a tiny little self indulgent fic)
“Steve! You’re zoning out again!”  Robin says, snapping her fingers in Steve’s face.  Eddie notices him flinch before he knocks her hand away.
“Yeah, yeah.”  Steve mumbles.
“You ok?”  Eddie asks.  Steve looks at him a little shocked before shaking his head.
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
Eddie doesn’t believe him though.  He watches Steve closer after that, noticing little things.  Steve zones out a lot, getting this far away look and staring at nothing.  Sometimes Steve will lean his head against whatever surface is the closest, a wall, a tree.  If anyone catches him doing this and asks him if he’s ok, he says he’s just tired.  Eddie thinks it’s more than that.
Steve and Eddie go with the kids to the arcade and Eddie notices Steve getting quieter and quieter.  At one point Steve mumbles something about needing a smoke and Eddie agrees, following him outside.  Steve immediately sits down on the curb, not reaching for his cigarettes at all, and holds his head in his hands.
“Harrington, what the hell is going on?”  Eddie asks, squatting down next to him.
“It’s just a headache, and its loud in there. I’m alright.”  Steve says not looking up.
“You look like shit.”  Eddie replies and Steve just scoffs.  “I’ll take the kids home, there’s plenty of room in the van, okay?  Go home and take a nap, big boy.”  Eddie says, not being able to keep himself from reaching out and giving Steve’s shoulder a gentle squeeze.  To his surprise Steve doesn’t fight him on it at all.
Eddie knows Wayne gets bad headaches sometimes and asks him what the best thing to do for them is.  Wayne says caffeine and painkillers, so Eddie starts carrying Advil with him, stuffed in little baggies that he usually uses for weed.  He keeps them in the pockets of his pants, in this jacket pockets, he puts a whole bottle in his van.
The next few times he sees Steve he’s fine, awake alive and alert, ragging on Dustin and battling Max’s sarcasm.  At some point the kids convince Steve to host one of their D&D campaigns and they all show up to casa Harrington with snacks (Eddie brings beer).  They set up in the living room, gathered around the coffee table, that admittedly is way too small, but they wanted to sit on the couch and the floor and be comfortable.  Steve sits on the couch next to Eddie, asking questions at first, but as the game went on, he got quieter.  Eddie was aware of it, and when Steve flinches when the kids start yelling about a trap, Eddie notices.  He finds a good place to stop the campaign.
“Break time.  I need a beer.”  He lightly slaps Steve on the arm, “Come with me, Harrington.”  Steve gives him a confused look but follows him into the kitchen as the boys keep arguing behind them.
“How’s your head?”  Eddie asks as he pulls a coke and a beer out of the fridge.  When he turns around Steve is eyeing him.
“Hurts.  How’d you know?”
“Wayne gets nasty headaches.  I can read the signs, man.”  Eddie replies, opening the coke and sliding it over to Steve.  “He says caffeine and Advil is the best way to kill it.”  Eddie digs the baggie out of his pocket, noticing Steve’s eyebrow quirk up.  “Just Advil, Stevie… though weed would probably help too.”
“Yeah, probably.”  Steve mumbles, but he takes the Advil.  “Thanks, I ran out last night. Didn’t have a chance to buy more.”
“No problem.”  Eddie says.
“Hey,” Steve says after downing the two pills and half the can of coke, “Don’t say anything to the kids.  I don’t want them to worry.”
Eddie’s chest clenches at that but he nods. “No problem, Harrington.  You’re secret’s safe with me.”
Two weeks later they meet up with Robin and Nancy for dinner and a movie.  As they sit in the diner, talking about whatever, Eddie notices it again, Steve drifting, getting quieter.  When Robin and Nancy are absorbed in their own discussion Eddie leans over to Steve.
“Did you take anything?”
“No, I thought once I ate it would go away.”
“Ok, do you have any on you?”  Eddie asks, already patting his pockets.
“I think I have some in my car.”
“I do too, I’ll be right back.”  Eddie said, getting out of the booth and waving off Robin’s look.  As he passes their waitress, he asks her to bring Steve another coke.  He jogs out to his van, snatches the pill bottle out of the glovebox and jogs back to the diner.  When he gets back to the booth, Steve already has the coke in front of him.  He slips the pill bottle into Steve’s hand and watches as Steve opens it, hands shaking as he dumps out three pills, pauses, and then shakes out a fourth.  Eddie winces a little.
“Steve, are you ok?”  Nancy asks, noticing the pills.
“Just a headache.”  Steve replies.
“Look, why don’t you two go to the movie.  I’ll drive Steve home, I’m kinda wiped anyways.”  Eddie suggests.  Luckily Nancy had picked Steve up and Eddie had driven Robin.
“Uh, ok, I guess.”  Nancy says.  “Steve are you sure you’re okay?”  Steve nods.
“I’m alright, but Eddie’s right, I should probably go home.  Sleep it off.”  Steve says.  It’s a little worrying that he didn’t try to protest the idea.
They pay for their food, and head out to their cars, Steve climbing into the passenger’s side of the van and immediately folding himself up against the door.  Eddie gets in and starts the van, turning the radio volume down before it had a chance to make a sound.
“Pretty bad, huh?”  Eddie asks Steve once they’re on the road.
“Mmm.”  Is all Steve can get out.  Eddie drives as gently as he can as quickly as he can to Steve’s house.  He follows Steve to his front door and takes the keys from his hand to open the door for him.  Once inside he guides Steve towards the couch.
“What can I do?”  Eddie asks as Steve is laying down.
“It’s alright, man. You don’t have to—”
“Tell me what you need, Harrington.”  Eddie cuts him off.
“Uh… cold helps.”  Steve says, now laying down on the couch, eyes squeezed shut.
“Ok.”  Eddie moves to the kitchen, putting ice from the freezer in a plastic bag and wrapping it in a paper towel, being as quiet as he can.  When he comes back to the couch Steve has his arm thrown over his eyes, the light from the setting sun bright in the room.  Eddie touches his arm gently with a quiet “here”, handing the ice to Steve before turning to the window to lower the blinds.  When he turns back to Steve he has the ice pressed to his right temple, face looking slightly more relaxed.  Eddie walks back to the couch, lowering himself down between the couch and the coffee table.  Steve cracks an eye open.
“Better?”  Eddie asks.
“Little bit.”  Steve replies, their voices matching the quiet of the house.
“How come you always have Advil on you?”  Steve asks after a pause.  Eddie feels his face heat up and hopes the dim lighting covers it.
“Ya know, just in case.”  Eddie replies. “Can’t have you ducking out and leaving me with those hellions all the time.  This is a co-partenting situation, Stevie.”  He jokes, to try and take the conversation away from the fact that he specifically started carrying around pain killers for Steve Harrington.
It doesn’t work though.  Steve’s free hand slides off the couch and two of his fingers hook into Eddie’s hand hanging over his knee.
“Thank you.”  Steve murmurs, eyes closing again.  Eddie bites his lip and ducks his mouth behind his other arm, curling his fingers around Steve’s.
“Go to sleep, Harrington.”

leave the light on sometimes all night | chapter one (wip) | 7k words
June 1986 Steve is lonely.  He’s always been lonely, honestly. An empty house, absent parents, friends that didn’t really know him. Frankly, he probably doesn’t really know himself, either. It used to be easier to ignore—between sports and parties and searching for the next girl to hang around with.  Then Nancy Wheeler told him he was bullshit. In the wreckage of the storm, he realized she probably hadn’t been that off base to call his life bullshit.
[Life in Hawkins, Indiana is boring, ordinary, no supernatural entities. Steve still changes.
Luckily, he still makes some new friends, too. Certain people are simply meant to be in the same story.]

i could tell that you'd be on my mind tonight | 6k words | teen
The room clapped, and Steve watched as a man stepped out from somewhere behind a nearby bookshelf to approach the microphone. Edward Munson. Steve wasn’t sure what he’d expected him to look like, probably some balding middle-aged man with a beer belly, but it was just… a dude. A guy, probably around his age, with dark hair pulled into a low bun, fingers stacked with rings, wearing a Metallica shirt with dark jeans and thick combat boots. He was, well, he was kinda hot honestly.  Maybe Steve did understand why so many people were sitting in the crowd to get a glimpse of this dude.
📖 When Steve gets dragged along to an event for the author of the Vecna's Curse series by Nancy and Dustin, he isn't expecting anything to come from the night. He's definitely not expecting Eddie Munson.
[a modern au where eddie is a popular fantasy author, and steve doesn't understand a word he's saying but is totally kinda into him anyway]

alone again, or
(Now complete!)
It’s 1991 and Steve is still in Hawkins, still living with his mother, still single, and still working at Family Video. At least he’s the manager now, for whatever that’s worth. But he’s stuck here while Robin and Dustin and everyone else have moved away. Moved on.
Well, everyone except for Eddie.
They're best friends, spend most of their time together, and it's nice to have a friend like that. But Steve is still looking for love with a capital "L". At least, he thinks he is.
Slow burn angst with a happy ending / rated M / 20.7k

“large chests are not inherently sexual and they need to be desexualized, especially since many people with large chests are underage and sexualized by default because of the natural state of their bodies” and “99% of character designs where the character has a large chest, especially underage ones, are matters of blatant fetishization and not an attempt to normalize the body type” are realities that can and should exist
