Headcannon that Cameron Morgan was that kid that when you played hide and seek as a massive class group, she would be the one kid who was completely forgotten and left to sit in her hiding spot for forty two minutes and fifteen seconds because she didn't know whether the game was over yet

🤧🤧🤧🤧 sorry, not sorry (but I'm kinda sorry cause this kinda of hurt my heart)
@averagejoesolomon
@carryonstarkid
"The more he thinks about it, the more it comes down to the same two options he always runs into: Joe or Rachel. Except this time, the answer ain’t so obvious."
-Full Circle, 1989
I am so in my feelings about this line in particular because it struck me that Matthew Morgan loves these two people so much that he walks this tightrope for the rest of his life. His two soul mates.
He quite literally goes back and forth between the two of them until someone ends the turn on Joe. Just how it started.
Matt in all of his love, takes these two makes them his top priorities. Shows them a lot about true love, which softens Rachel and assures Joe. Matt waltzes into their lives with all the sweetness and promises of rising sun and is torn away like one of those infamous Midwestern tornados.
What's left are two people without their soul mate. Both Joe and Rachel are no longer being loved like they were. Neither is the priority of someone's affection. Connections? Gone. There's essentially a "Matt shaped hole" in their hearts.
Maybe he knew he wouldnt be around forever, so he probably nailed it into both of them that when he was gone theyd need someone. Rachel was allowed to fall in love again. Joe was allowed to fall in love with whoever. That kind of thing?
Matt, in his final act of kindness, gives them one another. Both of them hold one of the last pieces of Matt. They miss that Matt like love. Not that they know it, but they are capable of loving like he did, forever touched by his heart. They slowly realize that they had the same soul mate. In their own way, Joe and Rachel are made for one another......by Matthew Morgan. They are soul mates in their own special way because of him. Ugh. Why.

Gosh. You summed that up beautifully.
Rereading these books is always so bittersweet.
On one hand, it's so fun to follow Cammie and her friends navigate the challenges of girlhood, becoming spies and growing up. And I always get nostalgic for when I first read the series as a 12-year-old girl myself.
But on the other hand, each time reread the series I feel farther away from that particular moment in my life and it just hits me that I'm getting older and I don't know how I feel about it.

Find the list of March Prompts I’m participating in here - I hope you join in! I love seeing all the different stories people come up with from the same words  This would have major spoilers for the original Gallagher Girls series if you haven't read all of them OKAY AND TECHNICALLY NOT SPOILING ANYTHING FOR THE LISTEN SERIES BUT -
I had a thought. About Mary (the soon to be nun in OSOT) - what if her name wasn't Mary? And maybe that was a cover. Or maybe her name was Mary. IDK. And what if this Irish, Strawberry Blonde, Blue-Eyed , NOT TOO FAR IN AGE FROM CAMERON ANN MORGAN , Angel was more than met the eyes? - my head is swimming with theories and headcanons now and I'll be yelling at @averagejoesolomon later about Mrs. O'Reilly A request from my old blog, for more about when Cammie was captured and set free before OSOW - thanks for asking, and thank you even more for your patience 💙 CW: slight descriptions of torture, hallucinations, and injuries // slight religion/God talk
Cammie Morgan & Catherine Goode & "Mary"
It was getting harder and harder to think straight.
What day was it?
Where was I?
Why did I come here?
The pain in my wrists drew all of my attention, the shift of my weight to keep off of my ankle making me suck in a ragged, weak breath.
I fought against the heavy pull of my eyelids, the bed in the corner, the initials in the stone hidden, but there.
He was there. It was real.
A sob shook my body, every part of me crying out in pain with it.
“I admire you, Cameron.”
Cameron.
Nobody calls me Cameron. Mom when she’s upset. My professors sometimes. Dad.
Dad called me Cameron.
She calls me Cameron.
Black heels clicked against stone. Hips swayed. Fire. The room was on fire.
A pale and slender finger brushed under my chin, lifting my head to look at her and I recoiled and she tsked, a pout of an insincere  frown on her lips.
“It’s been admirable, dear, this search for answers all by yourself…”
Answers. I needed answers. They wanted the answers.
“That’s a nice song,” she whispered behind a smile. “Zach always -”
“Don’t.”
The word came out coarse, my throat burned, the fire surrounding me inside of me now, burning me alive.
She hummed, a soothing, comforting noise as she ran a hand over my hair, “I know, he feels sorry I’m sure. He didn’t mean to give you up, when he came to see me.”
She’s lying, Cameron.
It was his voice.
Not Zach’s.
Dad’s.
“You’re,” I coughed. That bitter, warm iron ran over my tongue and filled my nostrils as I spat out, “Lying.”
She gripped at my jaw, forcefully until I cried, her eyes almost caring, almost kind.
“I wish I was, babe,” she shook her head, remorsefully. “It was smart - misguided - but smart, to assume we had you already.”
Gallagher Girl, don’t listen to her.
“Just showed his hand too early, and then we knew we could find you first. Alone. Just like your dad, aren’t ya kid?”
I sobbed, fighting against the grip she had against my cheek, against the restraints, voices of people not there clawing at the inside of my ears, telling me to not listen, to fight, to not give up. To notice things, to trust my gut, to never go anywhere without backup.
But it was too late.
Their voices drowned in the music, the music was so loud, louder than the fire, demanding to be heard, demanding to be the only thing I could focus on until a softer, quiet voice told me to go.
“Go find him, Cameron. Go see if he still cares about you, it’s been a long time.”
I collapsed to the ground, suddenly no longer held up, and something told me to fight, and something bigger, louder, told me to run.
Cammie. Run.
So I listened.
I pushed, I crawled through the flames, I gasped for air until I couldn’t breathe, until my head hurt.
Until the fire took me, and I wasn’t burning anymore.
Tumblr media
She decided she liked the cold.
It quieted her brain.
This place, these women, had a purpose, a calling, and perhaps she could learn to find hers here as well.
It was lovely, to walk through the snow, and be so close to the sky above and hear the river below, but be far from it.
To disappear.
She felt connected to something stronger, bigger than herself, in this quiet piece of the world.
It felt like decisions, paths of life, pain, logic, grief, uncertainty, did not exist here.
Each crunch of the snow beneath her boots led her further away and closer at the same time.
Something drew her deeper and deeper and further and further, until she was certain there was a reason she had walked this way, until she knew that a God must be real.
Until she saw the girl who seemed to be just as lost as she felt, be embraced by a woman who could only be her mother.
Until the Mother Superior told her it was time to go, to do what she needed to do.
To find the answers she needed to find.

CATHERINE GOODE
Still, Matt has one more question that he just can’t seem to shake. “Joe?” he says. “What’s her name?”
It takes Joe long enough to answer that Matt wonders if Joe’s already hung up, and he’s talking into dead air. “Her name is Catherine,” he finally says. “Catherine Goode.”

This feels accurate
Matt: Hey! Be safe.
Rachel: We will.
{Rachel leaves to go on mission}
Abby: [Dramatically cupping Joes face] Be safe!
Joe: I’ll be so safe.
Matt: Would you guys stop?
Joe: [Faking tears] I’ll be safe for you!
Matt: Stop. I’m gonna kill you.
Abby: But how would that keep us safe?

Never considered this before, but.....ya😅
I'm rereading gallagher girls and can I just say I'd Tell You I'd Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You is so funny if you think about it from Josh's perspective.
Like you're just vibing at a fair and then all the sudden you see a girl reaching her hand into a trashcan to grab a soda bottle, you make eye contact and the first thing she says is "I have a cat." You have a silly little conversation about her cat who loves bottles, and learn she is homeschooled for religious reasons and then you leave thinking she's cute.
Then you run into her a few more times including at outside your neighbors surprise party, that she claims she was going to but then never enters. You ask this girl how to keep in touch because you like her, and she says no phone or email, leave notes in this wall instead???? You try to figure out what church this "homeschooled for religious reasons and doesn't have a phone" girl goes to and you have no idea.
You start dating her-still messaging through the wall- she never lets you take her home, she gets really confused when you give her a present on her birthday, almost like she forgot it was her birthday?
Then your friend claims that your girlfriend isn't actually homeschooled, she actually goes to the super exclusive boarding school for rich girls in your home town. When you catch her outside the school, she breaks up with you, claiming she was bored and that's why she dated you and then she IMMEDIATELY GETS KIDNAPPED.
So you do what any normal person would do, you call the cops. you try and rescue her and she's mad about it??? Claims it was a school thing??? And now she's fighting people off and ziplinning away while saying she never had a cat???
So your next rational move is to steal a forklift and drive it through the wall to save your girlfriend from whatever craziness she's involved in.
Then you're taken back to the boarding school, learn its actually a school for spies, your girlfriend is a spy and has lied to you about every single detail about herself, even down to her birthday and her dad being dead. Literally nothing you know about this girl except for her first name is true, and you've been dating for months.
And then her mom gives you special tea that makes you forget everything since she dumped you and you immediately start dating your girl best friend.
Like this poor man lmao

OH Gosh. JOE. SOMEONE. ANYONE? Write a short about Joe on this night? This whole scene is so so sad. Thanks for making me cry even harder about it haha
Rereading LYKY, and I will never not tear up at the part where Cammie sees Rachel crying in her office on Matt's birthday. Never.

Woah. Hold up. I actually wrote a thing. It was stuck in my head, begging to be put on paper or in text, haha. I think my ideas from the older gen are now strongly influenced by the wonderful Full Circle story from @averagejoesolomon, and many other amazing writers here. So thanks everyone for making this fun!
So whatever this thing is, here it is.
Joe is deeply calmed by Rachel's presence. Even as friends, her decisive nature brings his unsure soul to a grounding point. Matt without question was the one that saved Joe. It was Matt who pieced him back together, saved him from himself, and cared enough to ease some of his hurt. After Matt dies, Joe shatters again. Not how he was before; he is now broken knowing the loss of that much needed love. It's only Matt's memory and the promise of protecting Rachel and Cammie that keeps Joe in some sort of half-living state.
After warming up to one another again, Joe realizes how much it was that Rachel played a role in his healing. Unable to hide some of his more overwhelming trauma from her with panic attacks he tells her small things just to get her off of his back.He notices with amusement that Matthew must have stolen words right out of Rachel's mouth to comfort him, or maybe it was visa versa, either way they sound unbelievably similar trying to talk him down.
Once they are together and Rachel knows everything? Oh, man. Joe learns a peace that he never knew was possible. If Matt was like his anchor, then Rachel is like his safety net. He's not entirely sure what it is. He doesn't much care. Aside from some really bad night terrors and panic attacks, they can almost pretend that Joe hasn't been hurt, that Joe isn't scared of anything.
He wonders, awake at night with Rachel aleeep beside him exactly what it is that brings him so much comfort. Maybe it's just all of her, all the time. Maybe if it is just the loving touch of a woman? Sleeping next to someone you love every night, like someone to scare the monsters inside him away? Someone who knows the right things to say, gives the best hugs, wants to hold him, and is willing to drop it all for someone she loves. Someone who allows him to be so weak and simultaneously thinks of him as strong. Maybe it's having someone who knows the worst things you've ever done or seen and still looks at you every day like she's luck to have you? Although he's entirely convinced that he's the lucky one and no one could change his mind. Lucky to have had Matt, to be loved by him. Lucky that Matt was so damn stubborn to get him and Rachel to get along. It's like he knew they'd need each other after he was gone. Lucky that he and Rachel found a way to get back in the same room as one another, to share their grief rather than hide it. Lucky, after everything that he's been through that he gets to have a happy ending with her and Cam. Lucky to get to love Rachel. Lucky that he's so so loved by all the Morgans in his life.

I love that this has so much about Rachel. I bet once Cam is born, Matt likes to "sing" brown-eyed girl to her as well. 😭

"Because if Matt is finally honest with himself, he knows he was never truly in this to save lives, plural. He was only ever in this for one life—for Joe’s life... in the end, all of this is for his friend, his partner, his brother...
Friends are a noble cause. Joe is a noble cause. Matt doesn’t know what he’s supposed to fight for, if not for the people he loves." - Sarah Coury, Full Circle: 1984

Ugh, I love this <3
Hey! I don't know if you still take promts but if you do could you do one of Matt and Rachel? "I've missed you” kiss I can't with the two of them😍
Being a spy is hard work. It’s long nights alone in a dump that is supposedly a motel. It’s weeks without contacting anyone. It’s isolation without actually feeling alone. It’s being worried you’re being followed. It’s being nervous that the cleaning lady knows your name isn’t actually yours.
It can be rough. It can be fun. It can be scary.
Matthew Morgan knows this. He knows this very well. He’s been living this type of life for years. It really is lonely.
But there’s only one person that makes it all worth it.
Checking behind him one more time, he slips between the alley way behind the apartment complex they’re staying in. He sheds his jacket, stuffing it in a nearby trash can, and rounds the corner. He makes his way up the steps, unlocks the door, and immediately closes it once he’s through the threshold.
Matt fights the urge to check his mailbox but checks it anyways, a slight bounce in his steps because he can’t stand still. He says a silent thank you when he finds it empty. Locking it, he practically races up the steps.
One floor…
Two floors…
A hallway…
A left here…
Less than twelve steps…
9… 8… 7…
He holds his breath, looking down the hallway to his left and then his right. His hands are steady as he reaches above his head, feeling along the edge of the lip of the doorway. His pinky brushes against metal and he pulls the brass key down, jamming it into the lock.
Click.
Matt pushes the door open, slipping inside. It’s four in the morning. He knows Rachel is asleep. He knows he needs to be quiet. Without a sound, he closes the door and locks it.
And then he feels it. A shift in the air behind him and a breeze by his right ear. He steps aside, quick as lightning. Using his momentum, he grabs the arm and pulls it to him, twisting around and pulling his assailant towards his chest.
“You’re getting sloppy, Mr. Morgan,” a soft voice says.
Matt grins and drops his hands to Rachel’s waist. He dips his head. “I’ve missed you,” He says as he presses his lips to hers.
He feels Rachel sigh against him, perfectly at ease with him. The pounding in his chest is gone. The tightness of breath is nowhere to be found. Suddenly the sea that makes up the entirety of his body is calm. It’s nothing more than a flat, rolling pool of water. His heart beats for the first time in 6 weeks.
This is what makes it worth it. This is what makes the isolation and empty feeling worth it. This is what makes one of the most dangerous jobs in the world worth it.
Matt pulls away and brushes a strand of hair behind Rachel’s ear. She’s beautiful. She’s his sun. She’s the reason he breathes. And he loves her for it.
“Enough with the staring and move your ass to the bedroom, Matthew Andrew Morgan.” Rachel says with as much authority as she can muster. “That’s an order,”
Matt laughs and the sound makes Rachel’s heart soar. Oh how she’s missed it. Oh how she’s missed him.
Rachel pulls on his hand, not wanting to let him go. He only follows her through the living room to the couch, but he will follow her anywhere. If she asked him to follow her to the ends of the earth, he would. He would do it. Just for her.
And for the first time in 6 weeks, 42 days, 1,008 hours, 60,480 minutes, and 3,628,800 seconds…
Matthew Morgan can breathe.

This talk will never not be funny to me because personal interpretation is huge, but I have always imagined Zach with "dark eyes," as in brown eyes. It's probably my just projecting the fact that in those days, brown eyes were never romanticized. This coming from a browned-eyed girl here, hah. I like the idea of him really looking like Townsend with dark blue eyes. I feel like everyone loves green eyes, and rightfully so, but I think Ally specifically called out two green eyes characters being Joe and Abby? Maybe I need a reread.
i saw your post about josh and zach's looks and tbh the only thing i recall is zach having dark eyes, which for some reason many people in the fandom agreed on being green. it does make sense though because sparks fly is a very zammie song to me and then i dont know why but i feel like that's where the green eyes part comes from
Yes! Zach's eyes are only described as dark (like Catherine's). I'm definitely part of those who headcanon Zach with green eyes. And while I love Taylor and I will never deny her influence I think there's some other reasons for this too!
I remember fandom spaces at the time and fanfiction being published on tumblr, ff.net, wattpad, etc. had a large uptick in male main characters having green eyes. A lot of ocs were given green eyes and I'm sure some characters who weren't described (like Zach) were also given them. This could certainly be where we see things like Taylor Swift songs influencing the culture (or Taylor was influenced. Chicken or the egg style). We really liked things that were rare/less common in the 2010s. And not a lot of people have green eyes.
The other reason I think for this is that, I know I personally, largely associate book 2 with the color green. Not unlike Taylor Swift's albums all having their own color, LYKY gives me blue vibes and CMH gives me green. Blackthorne gives me green vibes. Zach gives me green vibes. Now, this might just be me and my love of color association, but hey lol
